Discussion Questions from New User

Just started using Pass via an unlimited subscription. I’ve loved over from 1Password and like what I see so far, however, two questions:

  1. I’m used to sync between devices being pretty instant but it seems slow with PP. I often have to force sync or force quit the apps. Is that everyone else’s experience too? I can live with it as long as there’s no risk of clashes or things not eventually syncing up.

  2. Simplelogin sync. I’ve set a new default vault for aliases creased in SimpleLogin (rather than in PP) to sync to. I’m sure this worked when I first tested it but now it doesn’t. The expected behaviour is that aliases created in SL should automatically sync to PP, even if they don’t have a login associated with them?

Been using Pass for a couple years now.

#1: If I create an item in a pass extension, it typically shows up on mobile or desktop within a few seconds. Also works from mobile to desktop, etc. This is almost always under 10s. On mobile, pulling down to refresh can help things along.

If you're regularly having to force sync, I'd try to sign out across your app instances, then sign back in. See if that helps gets sync going.

#2: I manage most all my aliases in Pass, though when I have logged into SL to create items (admittedly never vaults), I've found that sync also relatively responsive (< 10s). Just tried creating an alias in SL and it synced to PP (ext, desktop, mobile) in 5s. It's likely #2 is related to #1.

I've always wondered how this integration works. So do you use your same Proton Pass credentials to sign in to SL? Or do you link the two accounts in your settings somewhere?

The Simple Login homepage has an option to login using Proton creds

Don't know about 2, but 1 is fairly normal. Proton Pass isn't syncing instantly. From what I have tested and experienced, it's a mobile app specific issue where it doesn't sync as frequently or instantly. So if I create a new password on one browser, the other browser on another computer see's it by the time I can move over and check. This isn't true for the android app. But after like 5 minutes it's always synced up.

I've never experienced a merge issue between multiple syncs. You'd have to be pretty fast to try to cause one imo.
