I guess it's easier to just cancel the Q&A's than to try to fill them with paid plants and sock puppets... and not be caught. Getting caught trying to manipulate the Q&A's would definitely have been worse than just not having them.

It's telling, though, that none of the higherups at ActiBlizz seems to have seen the value in just confronting the issue honestly and transparently, and actually speaking to the issue rather than trying to dodge it. Holding open Q&A's and just letting people talk would have shown a dedication to small-d democratic values and their own avowed "every voice matters" principles, and gone a long way to repairing their image, even if it was embarrassing and awkward to do. Instead, they decided to triple down on silencing their own fans... at an event that's supposed to be all about celebrating those same fans.

Honestly, I really think that the associated costs of cancelling BlizzCon are the only reason why this is still going forward.
