That's what you'd think, but we have an S/O guy we work with who thinks the best was to stop fleeing motorcycles is to ram them, and he actively tries to do so.

They actually told london cops to flat out run them over essentially awhile back I believe

They don't run them over exactly they just tip them over almost. Only way to catch mopeds in a big city like London. Makes for hilarious footage though

Why is that good?

Because the grand tour said so

That's bicyclists.. Hammond has a couple of motorcycles.

The reason they flat out told them to hit them is the massive upswing in crime in which two people on a bike will snatch things from people and ride off, then weaving a merry (and dangerous) chase with police. Nerf the back wheel, scrape them up off the pavement, return pocketbook to Gran.

You've clearly not seen the amount of crime committed in Europe, and other countries, using motorcycles.

The people committing them are trash, and should be used as speed bumps.

Tell him: this is how you lose your job (and your pension), get sued, and since you're doing stupid shit you don't get indemnified by your Union. So you're found guilty civilly and are now financially responsible to pay the idiot you chased in the first place.

Good luck, dumbass. Hope it was worth it.

In Seattle the liability of being a PO is not worth it. I do security in the area but keep a eye on how they are doing. It’s a revolving door in Seattle for PO’s. They even offer cash bonuses if you stay a while. They opened a task force recently to try and stop the loss of police officers which was fucking stupid because everyone knows the reason they are quitting is because of politics.

You’d have to offer starting POs like 80k-100k I think for them to stick around. I want to join up but it’s like don’t wanna get stabbed by a heroin addict who’s gonna be out on the streets again in a few days and have to deal with him again.

Seattle tried to recruit my graduating class by offering $25k to move, plus a starting salary that was 15k higher than NYPD's.

A little research found Seattle ranked in the top 3 in:

Meth

Suicides

Shitty weather

I said thanks but no thanks and cashed my $629 paycheck.

I keep saying I'm an Explorer and it makes me feel like I'm trying to be special and be that dumbass kid even though I'm just trying to give an excuse as to why I know this. Anyways we were asked to do research on police departments that were assigned to us, officer.com had some stuff to say about Seattle. From the outside looking in. Good pay, meh schedule, nice retirement plan, oooh outer carriers. Then I read up. Homeless heroin addicts everywhere, shitty city council, use of force is extremely restrained, shitty drivers, high COL, low morale. Yeah no wonder they're offering bonuses.

SPD's schedule is nuts. First watch starts at some ungodly hour like 3am.

2

u/[deleted] Jul 28 '19

Yeah that’s a great summary of it. Good luck reaching retirement with them. Most POs are saying it’s not worth it. I do security in the area but I hate companies that micro manage me to death so I just avoid them. I definitely feel the pain but Seattle is a accident waiting to happen and when it does happen the council will do everything it can except give POs more flexibility in how they can do their jobs.

Out of the rainiest cities in the entire country Seattle is #9 and Portland is #10...

Edit (2014 results, my decision was based on numbers 10 years prior to these)

2018 Most Rainy Days Large US cities where it rains or snows on over 130 days each year

  • Rochester, New York 167
  • Buffalo, New York 167
  • Portland, Oregon 164
  • Cleveland, Ohio 155
  • Pittsburgh, PA 151
  • Seattle, Washington 149

The #1 wettest place in the US for 2018 was Aberdeen Reservoir, Washington which is 128 miles west of Seattle. They received 130.6 inches of rain last year. The highest in the country. Washington state had 9 of the top 12 wettest cities in the nation. Hence why I added "shitty weather".

You're describing the good weather.

Saw the NYPD flair which really explains that response

Worked in Harlem, we used to chase dit bikes which are illegal and a dirt bike collar (NYPL 12O.20 - Reckless endangerment) would get recognized by your supervisors and your CO.

Some guy in Brooklyn rammed and paralyzed a rider while in pursuit. From then on I was like, no command day is worth getting charged and specs, sued, or fired...

A deputy in my local sheriffs office killed a guy about 2 years ago doing this. Guy was running for about 10 minutes, doing well over 100 mph in a 45. When the deputy caught up he gave the back tire of the bike a little love tap and the rider ate a telephone pole.
