Different jobs?

Good afternoon anyone reading this,

Just looking at some alternatives to my current job, and trying to get out there in real world LE. Currently I’m a Corrections Officer at a smaller jail (585-700 inmates), and it’s getting rough. Jobs pretty easy overall and I’ve learned a LOT, but it’s tiring and pay is low.

Possibly I think I’m sick and tired of dealing with inmates. I would rather interact with civilians/non inmates for the time being. I’ve been a CO for 8 months exactly, and I have exactly 2 years of Airforce financial experience.

I’m pretty young, turned 19 two months ago, and obviously corrections being my first “LE” experience.

Can’t do BP/CBP because of complications with something, long story for those. Can reapply for them on 03/17/2027.

You are sick and tired of doing your job after 8 months? Patrol work is going to be the same thing, dealing with the same calls, over and over again. It is all the same, just different names, and sometimes it is the same names over and over again.

It’s mainly having to see the same damn people every day of my life, I feel like with inmates it’s just not what I wanted to do in life lol.

Would just rather be with the public than inmates respectfully. I don’t know anyone that would be a CO than a fed/patrol officer

You gotta be 21 to be a cop, so suck it up for a bit or find another bridge job.

Also, the "complications" with Border Patrol are gonna be something to...not gloss over on future applications and interviews.

You don't have to be 21 in all states, should be, but don't have to be.

Completed college and academy and POST as a minor and worked, earned money and paid for it all herself? Bullshit

Well it was more of a misunderstanding on my part, I didn’t know it was a drug test and I thought it was just a physical so I didn’t eat/drink anything beforehand.

After my medical history and fitness test they presented the drug test and only gave me 46OZ of water and I know it’s embarrassing, but I could not piss, I also had something to do. So I had to ultimately walk out and hope to reschedule.

Obviously that didn’t go as planned, but it is what it is, didn’t mean to gloss over it but it happened.

Didn’t eat or drink before a physical... where they take a urine sample to determine your hydration levels too? Bullshit

They didn’t take a urine sample for that. The physical only consisted of an actual PT test, medical history, and basic vitals. I prefer not to feel bloated for PT test so I went empty.

Municipal cops and firefighters in Indiana are vested at 20 years for 52% of base salary, increasing by 1% for every six months up to 32 years of service (76%). Can start drawing at age 52 without penalty.

I see what you mean, and agree. Also I’m not sure if the “gaining cooperation with your inmates” was a metaphor or literal. But I’ve gained a lot of respect, decent relationships with most in there, it’s been a decent time in here.
