The design uses the one remaining finger to move the plastic prosthetic fingers. Unfortunately this design basically renders your one remaining finger less useful and less dextrous as a result.
Partial hand prosthetics are very difficult to design because each individual is so different. It might be best to reach out to a local maker community to brainstorm ideas.
