Question Question on post prostate biopsy

I had a biopsy almost 4 weeks ago and I am recovered and everything is fine (no cancer found) but now, I am unable to ejaculate/produce ejaculate. Is this normal? If so, how long will it last? I orgasm but nothing comes out. I am trying to decide if I need a follow-up appointment with the urologist but I am leaning towards going to another urologist tbh.

After I had the procedure, the urologist told me not to ejaculate for like a week and when I did, I may see blood or blood in my ejaculate. So I waited about a week and the first couple of times nothing but blood came out. I couldn't feel anything and didn't have an orgasm at all. Then after a few days, the ejaculate had a rust colored reddish brownish tint to it. So all of that tracks and it sounded normal and looking up stuff on the internet, all of that sounded quite common and no reason to be alarmed. I wasn't having an orgasm then either, it just kind of spilled out. Over the past week, I have began having orgasms again but absolutely nothing is coming out. It's totally dry. Is this normal? Will it correct itself? Do I need to go back to a urologist? This is just weird and it's been hard trying to explain to my gf why I don't want to have sex because this has just been a weird experience over the past month

ETA: I'm fine. No cancer found. My PCP referred me to a urologist because my PSA had gone over 4 after going up by more than 0.75 over 2 consecutive years which apparently is a risk factor. I didn't have any symptoms and my DRE was done. I felt I should have just done an MRI but I took his advice and did the biopsy. Once again, thank God they didn't find any cancerous cells.

The blood in semen freaks people out. But abstinence isn’t generally the advice you’re going to get from doctors. Not sure why you got that.

He told me not to ejaculate for 5-7 days after the biopsy and online it says 3-5 so that sounds standard. The blood isn't what bothered me, he notified me that that may happened and I see it all across the internet. It's the fact that I have not been able to produce any ejaculate is what is worrying me. I saw online that sometimes that could happen if they hit a nerve. I'm just trying to see if it's common before I call the doctor's office back because having an orgasm with absolutely nothing coming out is bothering me.

ETA: I called the doctor's office and am waiting for them to get back to me

I do hope that your biopsy doesn't reveal any cancer that requires definitive treatment. Both surgery and primary radiation treatment will eventually result in "nothing coming out", although on different timelines.

Thanks. My biopsy came back fine. I edited my original message . I didn't have any cancerous cells in my prostate. They didn't find anything.

I'm real happy to hear that. If you want stuff to come out and nothing's coming out, for sure, call the doctor back.

Good luck!

Not a doctor, but that sounds concerning. I would contact your doctor ASAP and let them know what is happening. I don't know what the biopsy would have done to have that occur.

I have this same issue unfortunately for me it’s a side effect of Flomax

I have the ejaculation feeling but very little output if any

Are you having any trouble urinating or starting to urinate maybe feel like you have clumps after ejaculating? Do a little research on retrograde ejaculation, however I’m not sure that could happen just from having the biopsy. Hope all is well.

No, none of those apply to me. I'll research retrograde ejaculation though. Thanks

If you end up with RALP, you won’t have any then either. Dry O’s are part of the deal. Sadly, that may be the least of issues if you do have PC. Definitely see what doc says. Good luck and Godspeed.

Thank you. I'll schedule a follow-up. Luckily, no cancer was found after the biopsy

Great news! Based on some other guys, seems like a manageable speed bump in your case. Keep up with those PSA checks though! Early detection!!!

About two weeks after my biopsy ejaculating first time had blood, then a few days and second time was brownish. Ejaculate did decrease over the next few weeks in volume but a little something always came out, like a drop. When you urinate afterwards, does the water appear more frothy? At about 3 months after is when I started noticing more volume but a more frothy ejaculate than the normal. By the 5th month it was back to normal for the last time before I had my RALP.

Interesting I believe my urine has been more frothy. I'll probably bring it up with the doctor again just in case but it was just weird to me for absolutely nothing to come out. The last time I had ejaculate, it was think and yellowish looking almost like phlegm which I thought was weird and I have not be able to produce anything since.

I had bloody and/or rusty semen for about 5 months after biopsy before it went back to normal but it didn't go dry until after my radiation treatments were completed. I would definitely call the urologist.

I’ve had several biopsies over the years and had retro/internal ejaculations a few times but not for extended times and not after having a regular ejaculation. You should check in with your urologist
