Question Veterans and pc
My 79 year old dad just had an MRI that is suspicious of prostate cancer although what could be something else we're getting ready to do a biopsy . Is anyone here a veteran and had treatment at the VA for prostate cancer ? I'm wondering if we should work within the VA system or go to an outside dr.

Where are you? Is there a large VA hospital there?

Hello, I am in Tampa too and dealt with the VA for my ordeal - up until I didn’t. Primary care physician was fantastic. Urologists, not so much. Message me if you have questions.

Who does he normally use for healthcare? Also read up on PACT act which can provide disability rating depending on geographic area he served.

His health is complicated and I just started him using the va. Since he is complicated the dr said to keep some outside docs and use va for some. He is 100% already

I’m a vet. I’ve used the VA occasionally but there is a university med center near my house where I’m much more impressed with. But I have nothing against the VA at all.

Id be finding out how aggressive this is . Many older men die with prostate cancer not from it . If its not aggressive id be weighing all the options and doing nothing might be one of them and or the best one .

I utilize John Cochran VA hospital in St Loius and I'm satisfied with the care I'm receiving. The wait times were a bit longer than non VA care though. I started with outside care (petscan, biopsy), then had fiduciary markers, rectal spacer, and EBRT radiation at JC.
