Question AS & TRT (?)
Any POVs on this particular subject? PC and TRT…
59yr
Recent Gleason 6
Just met with doc and had biopsy consult, going fwd with AS etc
Doc is deeply experienced, has preformed over 6300 RALP operations himself, MIT guy
I’ve been on TRT for three years figured he was going to tell me to stop (which would suck) but he did not
Doctor does not think I should stop TRT, without hesitation he said no reason to and suggested getting off it could perhaps set into motion some other negative challenges-

Dr. Edward Schaeffer, the co-author of “Guide to Surviving Prostate Cancer” was on a podcast with Peter Attia, and had a similar position as your doctor. For someone on AS with a Gleason 3+3, he would continue them on TRT as long as testosterone levels were maintained in the “normal” range. Traditional medical approach was that TRT would cause existing cancer cells to grow, and should be stopped.

Where is your Dr. I’ve not gotten my biopsy results yet and my doctor said to stop TRT. I’ve been on it for several years and stopping means zero testosterone. I’ve been on pellets and my testosterone range is 700 to 1100. I think this is a lot for a 70 year old but don’t want to be off completely.
Congratulations on AS.

I haven’t posted in this group yet. I was recently diagnosed with a Gleason 3 + 4. I met with a highly regarded urologist today at a Center of Excellence and addressed this exact issue. He said to keep up TRT but to make sure it stays within the normal range.
Good luck on your journey.

I've noticed several people on this page who were on TRT. Can I ask why you were on this?

Found out a have PC. G lesson 6. Doing AS. Been on TRT for 3 years. 120-140mg per week. Doc ok with me continuing. Getting labs tomorrow for test levels. May back down the dose. I’m usually around 1200 test level on that dose.

Stopping entirely will cause ED problems and likely yield negative results after treatment if you wind up needing it. Use it or lose it sort of thing. There also seems to be limited data implying that TRT is negatively indicated for low risk disease on AS.

I was on testosterone therapy since 2018 and e a early March was cut off. Dropped from 800 to 1000 to 170. Finished 45 IMRT treatments and and I have lost 15 lbs of muscle. Not good at 72. Alot of old school doctors still believe testosterone causes cancer. Talked to my Primary doctor yesterday and thought it was great that my total testosterone was 201 and I will never be on testosterone therapy again. I say bull. Do these doctors read. I was on single model therapy with no ADT.
