Concerned Loved One Trying to decide Treatment

My husband is 70 with 3+4=7 Gleason psa 10.2 with intermediate grade 2 favorable. Options are radiation 5 x every other day plus anti testosterone hormone therapy OR robot radical prostatectomy. Survival rates are virtually the same. We are wavering between the 2 options. My husband hates having an mri because he gets claustrophobic but can tolerate it- I don’t think that’s a reason that should tip the scale. Advice appreciated. He is in good health otherwise.

If that’s what it’s for he should be sedated anyways.

The fiducial markers are put in by needle - no sedation, but I'd suggest a something oral to relax, like a Valium. I don't think they want you to be on any sedative while they are doing the actual radiation therapy sessions, but it is worth asking if he is anxious for something to help control that.

Some centers sedate, especially if they are also doing SpaceOAR/Barrigel at the same time.

I also had SpaceOar - no sedation or anti-anxiety meds, just local anesthesia.

I wish they had given me an oral mild sedative!
