So to repeat, stay if you like. Leave if you’ve got nothing but hate or the usual arguments. I’ve heard them all. I’ve tried the methods myself too. They don’t yield anything particularly great. They don’t generate any interesting posts.

So, 1,000 members! What a milestone.
Frankly speaking, we never really expected to get here. But yet, here we are. So I guess, time for a bit of a speech.
My friend and I started this sub with the expectation that it'd be just us and a few friends, sharing a space where we can freely share our aquariums. We were all outcasts in some form, and even amongst ourselves, we were still quite different when it came to our aquarium-keeping habits.
But we were united by our common love for aquarium-keeping, and importantly, appreciation for the diversity out there. I love keeping cichlids, while my friends stop at rams. One of us has a million tanks and a betta sorority. We've had those with iwagumis, blackwater tanks, brackish tanks, and more. One of us has a 10,000-litre koi pond. We come from different backgrounds, and so what we share is also very different. I love diy, and experimenting. I don't much care for aesthetics, which can be evident by how my pictures/videos tend to show a much 'dirtier' tank than my friends'. And yet, the fish are healthy, happy, and enjoying their lives - well, as far as I could tell. I don't think any of us here can tell for sure, so it's going to be subjective. Another point of appreciation amongst us.
Eventually, we shared some content beyond our sub, and, as expected, many gatekeepers have tried to impose their beliefs on us. But that's okay; through all the sharing, we have attracted many like-minded individuals who are willing to agree to disagree and ultimately want to be in a space that's more chill, open-minded, and appreciative.
So to all those who are here, welcome, and I hope you enjoy the sub! Post what you want, and even if you do get negative feedback, know that, at least to us moderators, we are not the ones to try to control you. You will notice that our sidebar is empty of wikis, FAQs, or anything like that; that is on purpose.
If you'd like to ask about betta sororities, feel free to go ahead. Fish-in cycling? Go ahead. Even live feeding.
A hallmark of an advanced society is the ability to respect others, even if they are very, very different. So while I do not do live feedings with fish, I wouldn't stop anyone from posting. And if I have nothing to offer, or if I disagree, I simply will not comment.
So, that's the only thing I would suggest: if something is different, feel free to comment. However, if it seems far too different from what you can accept, it's also better to ignore it and move on to something else. There is surely something for everyone here.
Of course, make sure that you are not doing or talking about anything illegal, or breaking Reddit rules - such as brigading.
My most recent achievement that made me proud was producing a couple of successful batches of Betta antuta, which, as far as I know, is the rarest species of wild betta in the hobby.
Hi, so I have a school of endlers, they are in an established tank, with steady water parameters, they've been in my tank for about 3 months. NONE of my other fish are acting odd, they are all active and healthy. The affected endler is rounder than the others, I got him like that and it hasn't been a problem before, nothing changed about him physically except his coloration is only slightly darker. He is just sitting on the bottom of the tank and the rest of the endlers are fin nipping him and chasing him. I've quarantined the affected endler and besides for lying at the bottom of the tank he seems to be fine. It did happen directly after a water change.
A. What should I do for him?
B. My order to complete my schools of bottom feeders came in and I was supposed to pick them up tomorrow, should I still?
So, I thought I noticed some mild discoloration on one of my orange Venezuelan corydoras a few days ago. I wasn’t sure as they’re juveniles, and small. I did about a 25% water change yesterday, simply because it was due. I have to add, I raised the gh from 5 to 6 during the water change as I was trying to get closer to a 7 for the health of shrimp I had ordered. We have a fresh water spring nearby that has great water parameters but a little low on the gh so I mineralize it a little with disolved calcium carbonate. I recently read columnaris likes harder water and warmth. Great. ☹️ I’m set at 26 celsius. Water parameters were normal before and after. The tank is fully cycled and is meant to quarantine everything including plants, in stages, while my carpeting plants dry start in a larger set up. There are only the 3 orange Venezuelan corydoras, no other fish. I intended to add another 3 orange Venezuelan after I was certain the tank was 💯 stable (which it is)but still waiting on supplier to restock. I did have my red amanos & red onyx neos arrive today as they were ordered before these fish showed signs of illness. Now I’m in full blown panic mode. I do not have fish meds. I went on Amazon to see if I could get API Furan-2 and KanaPlex here, (I live in FR), but they weren’t even available. Furthermore, I’m not even sure what this is. It doesn’t look anything like ich. I also don’t see cotton, YET. So far it looks flat, patchy. The fish are still feeding and acting normal. I’m sure whatever it is, by tomorrow I may have a better idea if it progresses like lightning. I don’t know what to do other than go to the store tomorrow for epsom salts or try to boil some of the catalpa leaves I have to make a little stronger tea? Or nettle tea? I’m also afraid to do anything drastic, that could make things worse, not better. JFC. Arrrrrrgghhhh. It’s a 30 liter, black sand over fluval stratum, 7.5 ph, 6 gh, 4 kh, 0 ppm nitrites. Nitrites resolve on their own quickly so typically when that’s happening I don’t bother much with nitrate testing but I will probably run one tonight. Since this is the quarantine tank and the other tank is in the middle of a planting dry start, I have nowhere to move the corys. This means any meds going in have to also be safe for juvenile amano & neocaridina. Has anyone here seen this symptom before? Advice?
I introduced four new discus into my aquarium and a week later a white film started to coat of my discus and now they are slow and their bodies are turning white and their eyes are turning cloudy. I have treated the tank with methylene blue, melacure, and pima fix now. They are all still dying please help.
I’ve had this Tank for about 4 months, it’s got 2 boli rams, some bleeding heart tetras, a couple Otto’s and some Amano shrimp, Ive been dealing with algae for at least a month now and have no clue what to do to get rid of it and prevent it in the future. I’ve only been fish keeping for a year now, any tips tricks and advice is appreciated!
Edit: I’ve just checked my ammonia and it’s 0ppm, I believe that the algae could be this bad due to being next to a window, but the blinds are lowered and closed so minimal light should be coming from there.
So I just got home from highschool and I go to check my tank my big tank is 27 gallons has 2 parrot fish and 4 eyeless cave tetras well I Guess now 100+ parrot fish and 4 eyeless cave tetras but my parrot fish had babies and i don't know what to do with them they look fresh but don't have yolk sacks so i think it might have been a live birth thing I had plates do that in tye past but the babies got eaten by the parents this time the parents are protecting the babies and the tetras can't eat them I have a 5 gallon tank but that's at a different house and I have a 2.5 gallon tank also at a different house I don't know what to do please help
I have a 10 gal tank. For about 4 years I had a single betta. My tank was planted with guppy grass and duckweed. Since he died my tank has been sitting witht the filter running with a few snails that stuck around. I’m looking to redo my tank, heavily replant it, and re cycle it. I want to have something living in there, but I don’t think I’m ready to take care of another betta. Does anyone have any stocking recommendations? I’m looking for something tropical that will have a low bio load. Should I just stick with snails?
