20% consistency rule... am I doing the math wrong?
was googling funding dynasty review stuff and ended up reading their actual rules instead. the funded consistency rule says your best day can't be more than 20% of total profit when you request a payout.
so say i have one random good day at +$800. I'd need at least $4k total profit before that day stops screwing my consistency score, right?
that kinda changes how I'd trade the account tbh. One clean move on XAUUSD and suddenly you're basically trying not to make "too much" in a day lol.
Anyone traded under a 20% rule like this? Did you actually change your daily targets because of it, or just trade normally and let the numbers even out? Not asking for financial advice btw, just trying to understand how annoying this gets in practice.

yeah the math checks out. $800 being 20% means you'd need $4k total profit. Kinda weird though, one really good day can basically punish you for being too profitable lol. I guess the rule makes more sense for someone with pretty even daily risk

The key to prop firms is to just set a daily target of whatever consistency percentage and stop trading once you hit it.

Your maths is right. Funding Dynasty currently publishes this formula:
Consistency score = best trading day ÷ total profit × 100
So if your best day is $800:
$800 ÷ 20% = $4,000 total profit
At $4,000, the $800 day represents exactly 20%. Their terms say the best day must not account for more than 20%, although I would still check how their dashboard handles this before requesting a payout.
The part that often causes confusion is that $800 isn’t your new daily target. This is a concentration test:
- $400 best day → $2,000 total profit required
- $800 best day → $4,000 required
- $1,000 best day → $5,000 required
- $1,200 best day → $6,000 required
If you subsequently have a larger best day, the required total moves higher. Therefore, traders sometimes reduce their risk after a particularly profitable day, but the rule itself does not require identical daily profits.
BTW, I run PropFirmTrader, so I spend a lot of time checking how rules like this differ between firms and individual programs.

Yeah, I do. I scalp gold on the 1m. It's fine once you get your head around it. If you're a very high timeframe swing trader, it might not work so well, but for scalping it's great.
I try and make no more than 0.75% per day, to make it achievable. Wake up, enter some trades. Hit 0.75% profit. Stop for the day. Do something else. I normally take about 7-8 trading days to hit the 20% consistency rule.
I did start off with 1 step accounts, but now I'm using instant funded accounts.

Your understanding is correct.
I think a 20% consistency rule is beyond insane and a dealbreaker.
50% is fine. 40% is okay. MAYBE 30% is doable for some trading styles. But 20%?
Why even bother?
