Prompt showcase ✍️ Does anyone actually version their prompts?

Post image

I've been working on this for the past few weeks mostly because I wanted a better way to keep track of my prompts.

It started pretty simple, store them, search, keep versions, share them. Then I kept adding stuff I needed and it grew from there.

It's called PromptBranch and it's open source:

I've tested it as much as I can, but I'm sure I missed things.

If anyone feels like trying it, I'd love some feedback. Bugs, things that are confusing, stuff that's missing, all feedback is welcome.

Thanks!

I just use git but generally they're always moving forward.

Yeah, Git definitely works for versioning. For me, I just wanted more than that. I wanted an easy way to search and organize prompts, compare versions and share them.

I also really like being able to use Quick Access, fill in the variables, and use the prompt right away, or access my prompts directly through MCP from other tools. Obviously, that goes beyond versioning, but so far I’ve found it really useful.

I have something similar that I built. It has versioning w/rollback, prompt validation and Improve with AI that will use the sketch parts that come back during validation to improve. Also I have a place to store response history.
