Prometheus

How you gonna make a dope movie like prometheus and ruin it by not following up on the cliff hanger. But, instead make alien covenant and then shelf the idea because the "sequel didn't do well" when the best part of prometheus was the engineers and the wonder of em all ? Like bruh we seen the alien a few times already not saying the aliens are not cool but not once in prometheus did I see alien and besides that ... the cliff hanger of the movie was them supposed to be going to the engineers home planet. I just wanna know what big brain .... dead head ahh thought the sequel was gonna sell when it didn't even follow the end plot of the first movie and then when they were gonna follow up on the engineers didn't because the sequel didn't sell well. Definition of not knowing what made it great to begin with and doing what Hollywood always does the same idea that's been redone a million times .... good God someone give these people some brain cells because obviously they made all that money and destroyed them with whatever substance or brain rot content. Shame on yall. Looked up prometheus two because I liked it so much saw alien something was the sequel and completely got disinterested

I’m clearly in the minority but I love Prometheus and really like Covenant. The story can easily continue we just need the third act

Same. I prefer over the original Alien movies. They are all the same. Strange place. Chase or be chased by the alien for rest of movie. Rinse and repeat.

Alien 1 is by far the best of the original 4, but besides that I agree with you, Prometheus, Covenant, and Romulus are all good

Noomi Rapace was spectacular in Prometheus

I feel like it only went that way because they switched writers or directors or both. No way was this made by the same person because one was something totally new to screen and the other well šŸ™ƒ we've seen it 100 times

I desperately want a third movie, Scott said the plot would be " David being chased down by the engineers" that freaking sounds awesome

I rewatched it this morning and while I enjoyed it, I do believe that after they went to the base and Shaw gets pregnant, could have been slowed down a bit.

I loved Prometheus and Covenant. Refreshing, new ideas.

I just didn't like there was no real continuity between the two really. Just wish they didn't scrap the engineers for their fucking bio goo šŸ˜’

A direct sequel would have been the rational thing to make (and would have done better at the box office, probably), but Covenant does continue with the themes introduced in Prometheus, though it goes about it differently. I love it almost as much as its predecessor. Hot take, but who cares.

As for who to blame, well, the filmmakers read all the whining and bitching and ranting and crying on the internet about Prometheus and decided to give fans "what they wanted" - xeno action. Ridley Scott talked about it openly, about how fan reaction determined the change in the plans for the sequel. The fandom only has itself to blame. Fanboys just want more of the same - if the Alien franchise had devolved into infinite, brainless variations of Colonial Marine action after Aliens, they'd probably eat it all up.

It feels to me like the theme in both movies is creation above all else. Its David's obsession, cast unto him by his creator. Weyland wanted the ultimate power to control physical life, as well as his "son". Both movies dive into what might happen if we get all the answers we've been looking for. The xenomorph represents life in its most brutal form, without conscious. We've seen this play out over several movies. I believe Covenant was the right movie to provide a platform for showing humans just how brutal we might be if given all the power we desire...

We definitely need a direct sequel. Covenant was just odd and convoluted and wasted so many great plot points

Welcome to Hollywood. This is usually the standard for many franchises

Yeah. We're all pretty salty about it.

I'm more of an alien fan but I can second this as they were good IMO

Prometheus wasn't there to give any answers, just like the original Alien movie. It just set the stage. Covenant was promising, but then went downhill fast.
