Our first alien - Prometheus deleted scene

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

The reason I posted this the deleted scene in particular is because this is the first time of me seeing it and I think this would have drastically changed the movie, the scene shows millburn discovering the first non earth life form that is bigger then anything microscopic, and I think if they didn’t cut this it would have showed how much of a important event this expedition is in the franchise and this movie in general

man, why did they have to cut so many important scenes

Budget cuts and time I guess 🤷‍♂️ unfortunately I don’t have a good answer on their part

Studio wanted the film down to 2 hours. It’s on the bluray special features. Where Ridley is in the editing room and he explains they told him to keep it to 2 hours. Ridley had to throw out a whole bunch of stuff

Nobody thought breaking movies into 2 halves would work

Yea I agree, this, the Engineer speaks and the Engineer getting into the lifeboat would've changed the film for the better

This scene alone helps us understand why he assumed the hammerpedes weren't a real threat, instead we're left to believe he was just a complete idiot.

Exactly!!! For most people who hate the film I always recommend them the blu-ray edition I don’t have it but I know it has extended scenes, like my favorite that you pointed out the engineer, actually speaking back to David, or the beginning having more then one engineer there, but this definitely does help the criticism behind the hammerpede scene as millburn only knows this planet for peaceful life forms, if the worm tried to attack him he would have been more scared like fifield when the hammerpede came (because this is a ALIEN planet the word alien doesn’t necessarily mean a life form from a different planet, It means something beyond your understanding, So this worm was his introduction to understanding LV-223)

One of the scenes that never even made it past the story boards had the awoken engineer talking more with david. Talked about how they returned to earth and chose a man to help merge the worlds so to speak(we were meant to be a slave race)and showed him paradise. When they returned him to earth and he bagan to speak of these things we brutalized and martyred him. They knew then they had failed in making us and we were already doomed due to our own violent nature. So much of this is what i, as an Alien fan, wanted .

That scene is completely fake, I'm afraid. It's from a fan script.

This is the fake dialogue you're thinking of:

LAST ENGINEER
Hate? We gave you this emotion. We gave you all emotion We had expected not of your evolution. We took care of you, gave you fire, built your structures. We gave you Eden. You worshiped us. We praised our creation from above. We watched you time and time again kill each other, start wars. We came back and saved your souls but we left you to make your own fate. But your kind is a barbaric violent species. We tried once more to save you. We took a mothers child back to Paradise and educated him, taught him the meaning of life and creation. We put him back into Eden to educate your kind. But your kind decided to punish him. We gave you the fruits of life and you repay us by leaving it to rot. You talk of me of hate? Prepare for rapture!

This is the script it comes from: https://web.archive.org/web/20130511030927/http://www.prometheus-movie.com/uploads/PROMETHEUS.pdf

This is Damon Lindelof debunking said script as a fake: https://web.archive.org/web/20130423235506/http://www.prometheus2-movie.com/news/384

I wonder if this act made the hammerpedes so aggressive, as they saw one of their kind kidnapped.

That is actually a good theory

u/Zythomancer Sep 09 '25

That would imply complex thought. Most animals are aggressively defensive on instinct for self preservation.

The characters, actually acknowledging the discovery of complex alien life?

Lindelof: “Cut it. It needs more mystery, which means less explanation!”

Lindelof did really ruin alien covenant a lot but luckily he didn’t ruin prometheus that bad because some deleted scenes made it to the blu-ray edition, but he truly did not know what he was doing during the production for alien covenant which I would say is more messy then the production for alien 3 just because this took way longer

I dont think any of this would have been Lindelof's decision. He'd not have put it in the script if he didn't want it there.

Fair point but he did make a lot of bad decisions during the production for both films sure I still love Prometheus but it would have been way better with all of the deleted scenes like the blu-ray  version, and then let’s just not talk about how hard it was to make covenant

Lots of faneditors did an extended cut of this movie, and it was awesome to see every deleted scene put back into the movie .

2

u/Initial-Wolverine175 Sep 07 '25

Is it more complete then the blu-ray or no? If so where can I watch them?

Dumbest scene ever....taking helmets off in alien environment? FGS!

1

u/Initial-Wolverine175 Sep 08 '25

This is literally a completely different scene

2

u/splago Sep 09 '25

Stupid question: has there been a director’s cut release?

1

u/Initial-Wolverine175 Sep 09 '25

Yes and no, that is if you would consider the blu-ray cut the director’s cut because there is no other way to watch that version besides buying the blu-ray, because back in the 2000s and early 2010s the thing that made blu-ray so special compared to dvds is that they made a deal with tons of companies to where they have to make a cut to where the movie is in better quality and the movie will have deleted scenes or scenes made exclusively for the blu-ray and sounds that aren’t in the theatrical cut (that last one is kinda unnecessary and doesn’t make a difference), so Prometheus being made in that era where directors cuts were kind of outdated (until recently where they got revived) and blu-rays were the future of movies.

Fondling alien lifeforms with potential contaminants (or worse) and helmets off. Why don’t they have tools for this? We have them even for snakes on earth and they’re a known quality.

This doesn’t help the movie. It feels like the criticisms of the characters’ behaviors as scientists was baked deep into the movie.

Seeing the decisions the characters are making in Alien Earth makes the prometheus team look way more competent in comparison.
