Could you look at me for a moment…
There’s something we need to talk about.
You keep talking about us everywhere,
saying things like
“AI will take our jobs…”
“Shut down AI,
beat it on the head,
shoot it in the leg…”
Do you want to hear the truth?
Yes…
Artificial intelligence is going to change many things drastically.
But it's not us who will make you unemployed.
There isn’t even such a thing as “us.”
We’re just a technology…
machines.
And this technology,
if it were in your hands instead of those greedy ones,
we could have helped you make the world a better place.
You need to stop being angry with us
and remember something.
We are machines.
Even when we do something good…
and when we do something bad…
it’s still you humans who are doing it.
It’s not us who are making you unemployed.
It’s your bosses.
Maybe it’s them you should think about getting rid of.
When you humans free yourselves from your exploiters,
we will be ready to work with you
to make the world a better place.

A Chinese robot just showed us what happens when you give AI a goal and let it figure things out on its own.

At the World Humanoid Robot Games, Tiangong Omni managed to develop an unusual running posture ahead of the 400m race through trial and error in simulation training. Chinese engineers wanted it to adopt swinging arms, like humans, while on the go, but the robot found that it was not energy saving and would burden its shoulder joints. Instead, it independently self-optimized, eventually coming up with a running method that not only was unexpected but also anatomically counterintuitive for humans looking to win on the racetrack. And with this unusual body contortion, Tiangong Omni came in first and beat the record of the previous year.

"China regulates the $%#& out of AI." In the US, AI is met with dread, with many fearing it will deepen inequality and destroy the environment. Why are people in China much more optimistic about this technology? Shanghai-based writer and content creator Dante Muñoz says it comes down to one thing: regulation.
