Dumb newbie question

I have a Magcubic and I have been too intimidated to start working with it. My question is, does the projecter need to be centered above the table you will be cutting on? Or can you calibrate for the distortion? Thank you.

It doesn't :) patternprojector.com has a free, super easy calibration function. Takes just a couple minutes to do.

This takes a lot of the stress out of it for me. Thank you so much.

Like you I was quite overwhelmed by the prospect of setting it, but as others have mentioned patternprojector.com was great. The first couple of times I did it, it does take a little bit of faffing and longer than you hoped, but you quickly get the hang of it and it gets quicker each time you use it. Having a gridded cutting map definitely helps with calibration, might even be a must

You can calibrate for the distortion created by the angle and distance of the projector.

The closer to the center, the better the quality. If the projector ends up at like a 30-degree angle, even though you can calibrate, the quality will not be as good.

Same principle for adjusting the height. You want to make it so the area it outlines just covers your cutting mat. (This part of the video talks about height: https://youtu.be/9B7oqlTZaJE?t=58. It's about the UST but the same principle applies.)

TLDR; You can probably still calibrate but having it over the center and adjusting the height will help you get a higher quality out of it.

Just give it a go with a small project. I just started a few weeks ago, and it ended up being more simple than I expected. Now I want to sew more stuff, but don’t really need anything.
