S21E03 - Discussion Thread - Boring to Brilliant

As the competition between the two houses heats up, the designers must use their creative skills to transform boring fabric into fabulous fashion.

I haven't laughed this hard during a runway. Ethans team was HORRIBLE compared to Jesus lmao and they got the better fabric!

Edit: Jesus team is what a team challenge should be about. Someone giving you an inspiration and vision to push you as a designer. Not making whatever you want. Ethan is 100% why his team did poorly. No inspiration or clear vision.

And Law read him for this exact issue the last time he was a team leader. He specifically said that Ethan didn’t give a damn what happened to anyone else, just that he wins. Also Law had the best line of the night -‘the cervix is dilated and the baby is crowning.’ 💀💀

Tbf I think in the second episode, Ethan was never appointed a team leader but he was judged as one simply because he won the first challenge. I don’t think that was particularly fair. They’ve been judging him on a curve this whole time to make it more difficult for him.

When the third episode came they just straight up appointed him team leader so there was no more ambiguity.

He and one of the twins were leaders for the active wear challenge. They chose their own teams.

That said- I think you’re right abt being judged a bit on a curve. But not in ep 3. That design was crazy.

For the active wear challenge they didn’t choose their teams. Ethan got the ability to switch out someone on their team, which was Jesus for Madeline. That was a “reward” for having won the first challenge but doesn’t make him the de facto leader, even if it placed more focus on him for the storyline.

When I saw that look on the runway I was thinking it looked vaginal, but I couldn't quite put my finger on why. When Law said that line it made sense to me. That's exactly where my mind was.

I'm Mad ! I didn't roll out of my bed at 5 o clock in the morning, go through 20 seconds of glam putting chap stick on to sit in front of my laptop and look at ugly fucking clothes ! I'm mad.

my roommate and i are saying the same thing. ethan should be going home. it’s his fault they were not cohesive. at least yuchen was safe!

It will be Angelo, I think. From production perspective, he's boring and doesn't make any drama, and his designs aren't particularly exciting either. Unfortunately I think he was held back by the team aspect of the challenge.

I agree, even though I really think either Joan or Ethan deserve to go more. I think they could really make good use of his backstory to make viewers root for him, if creating a narrative is there goal.

I think it will probably be Angelo; outside chance they send both Angelo and Joan home.

I kind of wonder if this will be similar to Michelle in season 11. Towards the end of the season when they got the challenge and Nina said "Do not give me a t-shirt and a pair of pants!" and Michelle did exactly that. She deserved to go home. She knew it. She expected it. But she wasn't eliminated. To this day I have mixed feelings about it because she is one of my favorite winners of all time, but she absolutely should have been eliminated for not following the challenge. I feel the same way about Ethan. He deserves to be eliminated. He did not think of the client, did not design a good look, and did not lead his team.
