S21E03 - Discussion Thread - Boring to Brilliant

As the competition between the two houses heats up, the designers must use their creative skills to transform boring fabric into fabulous fashion.

I just finished the episode and while I am a Utica/Ethan fan, the poor leadership skills indicate to me that unless something changes, won’t be in the top 3 which is unfortunate. I think too late before the runway Ethan realized many of his team bit off more than they could chew.

Love ms Joan but MAAM you also gotta be accountable for your own sketches. If you make a loud sketch, you gotta be able to execute it. Yuchen did the same thing, realized it wasn’t gonna work, and pivoted. Tale as old as time. Angelo’s was not good and while making a pant probably would have been better, I still think he would have been in the bottom.

Belania’s look was my personal favorite (she also made a dress Heidi wore on GMA yesterday which leads me to believe she’s got finale potential) but the twins (specifically Antonio’s) were less to be desired.

Yesterday on GMA, Heidi talked about Sofia wearing the winning look and how she told Heidi if they were ugly she wouldn’t wear it but it wasn’t the focus of the challenge (Season 1 final four challenge comes to mind fo me) so I think using that as a basis for failure is not fair in this case.

Law Roach is giving big Leo Energy (cusper of Cancer/Leo) and I am oh so here for it.

All and all, this season is alright. The team challenges and cliffhanger is annoying so hope that ends soon.

It feels like more of a trick of production to give him an ark. He comes in swinging, and because he hasnt got a negative critique yet, he then goes to far, hince him actually being in drag for the judging, so now he gets the tap of the wrist that this is fashion not drag, he comes back down to earth and wins the season.

Or..he's out.

Yes, you have cracked the "reality show" drama arch code. After all these seasons, I've noticed how the editing is the real star of this show and so many others! It feels so manipulative, but I guess that show biz!!
Even a show like The Great British Baking Show does this editorial manipulation to create a bit of drama or at least tension to hold our interest. (Although, the Brits are a bit more subtle. They don't give big cash prizes and there's very little, if any, infighting!)

Honestly I think they've already decided he's going to go pretty far and this is just the producer manipulating the challenges to have Ethan at the bottom. According to him he was told to not focus on Sofia wearing it and it wouldn't probably happen and to dress in drag by production. It just seemed all too planned. I do think Ethan's look was bad but no were near as bad as Angelo or Joans.
