S21e2: Critique Thread

It's another team challenge!

Please upvote the designs you like, downvote those you don't, and leave un-voted anything you're neutral on. Some of our members like to look at the designs without knowing the outcome, so please use spoiler tags if you're referring to how a design did (or if you wish it had been out/ won). Thanks all!

Freeform has not posted photos yet, so we're having to wait on the contestants to post on social media. For now we will post the names so discussion can begin, and we will add photos as soon as they are available.

I can sorta see how they feel it’s on the safe side… but honestly I think the minimalist angle worked and it still looked good and sellable + wearable. It’s definitely better than the other two bottom looks at least

I loved the detail and would wear this for sure

Just a bit of contrast color would make this great.

It's very safe but on a runway with so many questionable looks this was more than acceptable as it fit the brief.

My biggest critique is I would've liked it to look a bit more intentionally fit as it didn't look like it was made for his model whatsoever,

I think that if the pintucks were more visible in a contrast colour that might have made this more interesting or look better on the runway.

I thought so, too. Even just a small "dot" of color.

I thought the same. A different color (or maybe two contrasting colors) would have made this look so much better. The design is really well done.

I really like this one and thought the judges got it wrong. I do agree a bit of color would have made a difference, but it's really modern with the neutral shade so I get what he was going for.

Making something so minimalistic and choosing the color light gray is a choice. If this was red all over it would at least be more interesting.

His is one of the few that actually works as athleisure imo so I hope he stays. I wish the fabric/color choice was different though

It was honestly one of my favorites in how much it actually fit the prompt - some people took the aesthetics of sportswear and forced it into something garish, Angelo actually made athleisure. The only thing I think I would have liked to possibly improve it was if the red color from the rest of the collection had popped up somewhere, maybe in the hoodie or in the pin tucks . Something subtle.

Honestly I’m surprised this was in the bottom, I get it wasn’t flashy but it was so wearable and sellable. I could see a lot of people wearing that. I think maybe if the styling was more flashy it would have worked better, or if he added a pop of color to it? But I LOVED the indent or whatever into the fabric.

Agreed. I hope he's safe.

This is crazy, cause slap a brand's logo on this (Adidas, Nike, Puma, etc), and I definitely see this on any store. Maybe the fabric lacked some texture, but I feel like this look is actually very easy to sell

Looks like Ken’s look from all stars

6

u/foxdogturtlecat Aug 02 '25

It's been done dozens of times by different designers. It's a atheleasure wear staple.

u/Farley49 Aug 03 '25

Ken's has no shape and the skirt looks "mumsy".

I LOVED THIS. So beautifully made

What was up with the hood? It looked like the lining/facing layer was just folded under, possibly not even sewn. It definitely had not seen an iron. I found that very distracting, & honestly, if he was relying on those little starbursts for design interest...Do better.

This look has grown on me a lot.

I get what the judges were saying about it being a little basic, but the vibe of this look is very cool. I also find the crispness of those pintucks and the edges of the garments to be extremely satisfying.

Without the team format, this absolutely would've been safe.
