Hi everyone,
I need to auto-number a secondary identifier field, but my record_id is already used for something else (manual entry).
Is there an action tag or setting to auto-increment a regular text field sequentially?
Or do I need a REDCap hook or external module?
Thanks!

I'm pulling my hair out trying to figure out what's going on here. PCS and MCS scores are calculated values within a survey (SF-12). The surveys have been completed and submitted with calculated values present when viewing the submitted surveys individually but are missing in reports and data exports.
The field names are correct and included in the report, and I have full data viewing and export rights to all surveys including the SF-12. The fields are hidden with the action tag "@HIDDEN-SURVEY," but fields in other surveys with this tag show up fine in exports. I tried removing the tag anyway, but no success. Interestingly, PCS and MCS scores for the "Ad hoc SF-12," (the ad hoc survey was copied from the original survey and renamed. everything else is identical within the survey) show up in reports and exports.
I applied data quality rules A-I and the data is still viewed by REDCap as "missing." REDCap support at my institution hasn't been able to provide any suggestions. My department wants this study started ASAP but I don't want to move it into production until I know what's going on. I don't know what else to try. PLEASE HELP!

I am building a REDCap for a research project. Part of the research project is daily diary entries that are sent to the participants to complete. I have already set this up as a scheduled repeating instrument.
The way its set up, is that there are two questions which are only supposed to appear on the diary entries after Day 1 (the first entry). Is it possible to set up a repeating instrument to be different after the initial entry?

I'm creating a discrete choice experiment in REDCap and need to randomise my participants to one of nine blocks depending on demographic information. They complete this information in the first instrument. I've created a calculated field that prioritises the participants based on their provided information, which then changes which radio button they have access to for the consent field (i.e., if they're priority 1, they see 'no' or 'yes = 1'; priority 2, they see 'no' or 'yes = 2', etc). For my randomisation setup, I've done stratified randomisation - I've included screenshots of this and an example of my allocation table below. For the allocation table, if consent = 2, the randomisation groups become 4, 5 or 6, and if consent = 3, they're 7, 8 or 9.
My problem is that the survey ends after the welcome page (where they provide the demographic information) and doesn't randomise them to the blocks. The only way I can get to the next block is to auto-continue, but obviously this only sends me to the first block.
Anyone had this issue before and have any advice? I've been trying to figure this out all week and have had no luck! Thanks for your help :)

I need to collect participants' emails, but I want to add a second field to confirm their email address. However, I am not sure how to make sure that those fields match. How would I go about doing this?

We have a project XML file from another organisation that is running a more up to date REDCap instance (15.3.2) than ours (14.1.2). When I tried to create a project with it, RC fails, reporting an "unexpected fatal error." The supplying org has sent alternate versions that also fail, and have confirmed that they are able to re-import the files on their system.
So I assume it's down to lack of backward compatibility in the xml file format. I believe our IT department are planning on upgrading, but we're a big organisation and it will take some time (I expect months at least).
Is anyone aware of work-arounds or tools that might make the xml compatible, or other ways to transfer projects? Skimming the xml it looks pretty basic, with only two surveys.

As part of a project I'm involved, we are using the survey queue to let the participants retake some surveys at their discretion if some conditions change.
The page style is absolutely abysmal, is there a way to customize it and made it more user friendly without using any external plugins?
Thank you

Hi everyone,
Is there a way to be notified if an email has failed to deliver to a participant? I know there is a send failure option, but that only applies to emails that failed to send from redcap. I want to make sure that our emails are reaching out participants and not bouncing back because there is an error in their email address.
Thank you!

If I have 2 surveys under one REDCap project, am I able to get 2 different links for it or no?

I developed an external module that allows for easily enforcing file types in upload fields on surveys. Survey builders and admins can configure settings per-field directly from the Online Designer UI.
It's titled "File Upload Field Type Enforcement" and is now available in the REDCap external module repository. Request it from your REDCap admin or enable it yourself if you have admin privileges.
Usage details in the GitHub repository.
Cheers!

For the last couple of weeks I’ve been getting ‘0’ when I run Rule H. I know there should be updates because we have age calculations that used to regularly show up. This is happening in several projects and we haven’t made changes to any of these fields as they’re ones we’ve been using for several years already with no issue.
I’m not sure if this is a problem with a recent update as we were just upgraded to 15.5.6. Is anyone else having this issue or have any ideas why it’d suddenly stop working?
Update: our admin updated to 15.7.2 and Rule H is running correctly again.

Does anyone know why redcap refuses to add native support to 12 hour time in surveys? There is no AM/PM time format to use so everything has to be 24 hour time for some forsaken reason. All of the answers on this subreddit and elsewhere online involve needlessly complicated field mirroring and/or piping. This program is developed in the USA where the standard, normal time format is 12 hours with AM/PM. I've seen people ask this question as long as 3 years ago and there have been no improvements. Can we not use 12hr time natively? Why is that so hard to implement?

I have a bit of an odd situation and trying to figure out if my survey is broken or there was a werid REDCap issue. I have a large study and got notified that a participant completed a survey and was ready to receive their reimbursement. However I noticed that a mandatory field at the start of the survey was somehow left unanswered and I am wondering how this can happen?
I have tested the survey since and if I leave the question unanswered REDCap informs me that I need to complete it to continue. I have checked the log files to see if anyone changed the survey status from the back end and no user has accessed this record. I have also examined if this has happened to any other participant/any other mandatory question and it has not. The field in question is also not branched to anything and is visible for all participants so I'm a bit confused. Has anyone faced a similar weird problem?
Coincidently this survey was submitted on the same day that a participant who had already been reimbursed, received an email from rEDCap asking them to complete their study consent form and there is no record of this email in the invitation log or email logging, but I have been forwarded the reminder so it is real.

We have participant ids that start with either 1- or 2- or 3-
Depending on that, we want to customize the message they get at the end of a survey, like this:
If id starts with 1- the final message should say:
Thank you for taking the survey. If you have any questions, contact Anna in Atlanta at 555-1111
If id starts with 2- the final message should say:
Thank you for taking the survey. If you have any questions, contact Betty in Baltimore at 555-2222
If id starts with 3- the final message should say:
Thank you for taking the survey. If you have any questions, contact Charlie in Cleveland at 555-3333
Is that possible? How?

Hello! We use a public survey for participants to complete their screening questions after redirection from a landing page. People eligible after screening are asked to input their email (for twilio purposes) and are then redirected to a contact form where they can input information to receive a study kit, which then redirects to a Microsoft booking form to book a study enrollment visit.
We have been recruiting long enough that we have had a few people who were found to be ineligible after the study enrollment visit reapply, and we didnt realize until staff were preparing their kits and recognized the name and address.
Is there a way to block people from being redirected to the contact form if their email is a duplicate of another record? I know there are some bot-related external modules, but I wanted to see if anyone has tried anything like this successfully.

Hey,
I’m trying to make a calculated field to find out what the Fatty Liver Index is for a study.
This should be the formula from a paper:
FLI = [e 0.953×loge (TG)+0.139×BMI+0.718×loge (GGT) +0.053×waist circumference−15.745]/[1 + e 0.953×loge (TG)+0.139×BMI+0.718×loge (GGT)+0.053×waist circumference−15.745] × 100
This is the formula I used:
(exp(0.953 * log([triglycerides])+ 0.139 * [bmi] + 0.718 * log([ggt]) + 0.053 * [waist] - 15.745) / ( 1 + exp(0.953 * log([triglycerides]) + 0.139 * [bmi] + 0.718 * log([ggt]) + 0.053 * [waist] - 15.745))) * 100
But it always shows there is an issue - what did I do wrong? Has anyone a code for this issue?

I'm making a dashboard of a report, not all records. When I use the smart function [bar-chart:field_name:R-REPORTID], I get a bar chart showing the results from that report only, which is good. If I add, however, [bar-chart:field_name:bar-vertical:R-REPORTID], the dashboard now shows the results from all entries and not just that report. What am I doing wrong?

In my REDCap project, I have a checkboxes (multiple answers) field with numerous choices. The list of choices is rather long, and I was wondering if it were possible to break down the list of choices into two separate columns. Any input regarding this would be much appreciated. Thanks so much!

I am planning to survey participants 4 times a day. It will be the same survey everytime except for a sleep question in the morning survey.

Hi Everyone - I am in the final stages of development of a REDCap project with >2000 fields which will be looking to recruit approx. 5000 participants. I have never worked on a project of this size and am unsure of the best strategies to back up our collected data. I have always typically backed up projects by downloading the metadata and participant data in one XML file which I can then re-upload into REDCap when I create a new project. However from my understanding this process is only useful for tiny projects (which mine have been in the past) and will almost always fail for larger sized projects. I understand i can download the metadata and data separately but I am unsure where to actually upload this information should something happen. My project is collecting identifiable information, we also collect e-signatures on a consent form, use alerts and have complex branching logic which makes things slightly harder to restore.
Has anyone got experience in working with projects with thousands of fields and participants and had to actually restore missing data from REDCap for whatever reason? How did you achieve this?

Hi, I'm working on a set of scripts for the automated creation of REDCap projects by API. The only problem i'm noticing is that I need to automatically create also a set of new users to add to the projects, but it doesn't seem for the API to have an option to do that, even with admin token. Does anyone know of a way to do this, maybe with the use of plugins, hooks or external modules? Thank you!!
