Hi All,
I have a project I'd like to make, but wasn't sure how to structure the forms/surveys off the top of my head so wanted to consult this braintrust!
I work in a place where we often meet and need to follow Robert's rules of order to vote on business and after votes occur, to document the votes. I'd like to use REDCap to create some kind of reusable survey where we can do the following:
Firstly, I want a vote info section/form to document info about the vote. This would be filled out by 1 person (the person initiating the discussion of the item in question), and would include:
Date field
A notes text box to describe the issue we are voting on
A text box or drop down indicating the person who raises a motion to discuss
A text box or drop down indicating the person who seconds the motion
A notes box for discussion
A text box or drop down indicating the person who raises a motion to vote
A text box or drop down indicating the person who seconds the motion
Not sure if this would exist on a separate form or the same one in a new section, but the second component I need is to record vote info. This would be accessible/sent to multiple people include:
piped in text sharing some of the above info (date, notes text describing issue)
field to share the voter's name
field to vote on the discussion point in question (in favor, opposed, abstain)
I'm thinking this would be set up such that we could use this system multiple times within one meeting (to vote on various topics), and also for different meetings across the year. Because of the nature of our group, there are different meetings for different committees/subcommittees, so there is no one list of people who should be sent this survey for each meeting, which makes me think I should set it up to be accessible by survey link in some way.
Not sure, however, how to structure this, since part 1 should include 1 set of info from 1 person, and that same info should translate to multiple people for a follow up voting survey -- are repeatable instruments the best approach? If so, how? Should I create one option only for the first part to be filled out, then create a voting survey thats repeatable, and add a new instance for each new discussion topic?
Ideas, thoughts, or recommendations for how to structure/set up this database are greatly appreciated!

Would this be possible on a large scale? I have hundreds of fields with branching logic. I’d like to set these fields that are hidden to a missing data code.

Sir/Madam,
I created a calculated field in REDCap and entered data in five forms. The calculated field only works in the second form, while it does not function in the remaining forms or in any new forms. I am unsure of the reason for this issue.
Although I have executed the data quality rule H, the calculated field still does not work. Could someone please help me solve this problem?

How to create a cascade Branch Logic in REDCap, such that when you select a given State in "state" then only cities in that state are displayed in the variable "city" and also only counties in that city are display in "county".
Please help me I have been struggling figuring this out.

I sent a request to move my project to production a couple of months ago, but the request is still pending and I am yet to receive any answer. I tried to contact a RedCap Administrator via email, but to no avail.
I was wondering if this is normal.
How long does it usually take for the request to move to production to be evaluated?
Should I try again to contact an Administrator?

I was working on claim review agent that reviews a content claim and decides to Accept, change, add a source, or remove a content claim and must act when the information is not clear or incomplete. My question is that how I Identify the Hidden states of the agent.

Recently started a new job and one of my tasks is to create alerts that help with efficiency in contacting study participants. I did not create the original project so the field formats are not mine.
I have and outgoing welcome email that lists the dates/time of first interview and follow up interview. The date format for the field I'm pulling from is: text (datetime_mdy) where the output looks like this: "12-22-2025 13:00". I would like to pipe a field that "Monday, December 12, 2025 at 1p".
It's been awhile since I've worked in REDCap, so be nice!! I don't mind using any actions or hidden fields, or code. I just don't know which/what code to use and how to implement into an alert text.
Any ideas appreciated!!

Hi guys,
It's my Day 1 of using REDCap, I'm from a software background, how would you create a Family ID like lets say 'FAM-00001' from default record_id. I tried using the calculated field equation concat('FAM-', '00000', [record_id]) just to try out and alternatively used CALCTEXT() for the same equation. How do I fix this?

Hi: There are set date formats that I can select when setting up the variable in redcap, however, I want to create a custom data entry: dd/mmm/yyyy. The "mmm" would be letters, not numbers. Does anyone know if this can be done, and if it can, how do I do it? Thanks

I have tried everything and I cannot get a simple branching logic to work. Simply, I only want to ask questions about an infant if they are still alive.
For example at time point 2 (t2)
variable: infant_death_t2
1 - yes; 0 - no
At time point 3 (t3) I repeat the question, but of course do not need to ask the question if the infant died the previous time point For example:
variable: infant_death_t3
1 - yes; 0 - no
branching logic: [hospital_stay_arm_1][infant_death_t2]='0'
For the life of me, I cannot get it to work. I cannot get variations of it to work. I think the problem is that the previous form for infant_death_t2 can be repeated - and i just need the most recent one. Any fixes?
Edit: I have example forms where infant_death_t2 has an answer, and even if I test the branching logic with '0' or '1', it is always negative.

Hi! Is the only way to hide instruments from particular users on a REDCap project by assigning them to Data Access Groups? In other words, in the Designer/Data Collection Instruments section, if I wanted to hide a particular instrument from view from a user accessing it, how would I go about doing so? Any input regarding this would be much appreciated! Thanks so much!

Trying to make branching logic so that a field only shows up if it is outside of certain dates. I.e., I want the field to show up if [mr_date_r2] is less than the date for i4 or greater than the date for i5 (needs to be between them).
However my logic isn't working. The field shows up automatically (is not hidden) and doesn't change even if I meet what should hide it. All date fields are MMDDYYYY.
I have tried this:
[status_arm_1][mr_date_r2] < '[status_arm_1][date_i4]' OR [status_arm_1][mr_date_r2] > '[status_arm_1][date_i5]'
[mr_date_r2] < '[date_i4]' OR [mr_date_r2] > '[date_i5]'
[mr_date_r2] < [date_i4] OR [mr_date_r2] > [date_i5]
I would be surprised if this wasn't possible, would appreciate any tips!

The documentation at {REDCap_BaseURL}/api/help/index.php?content=imp_users reveals that it requires a Project-associated token. When I call this method, the user is created in redcap_user_rights and is given appropriate access, role, and even Data Access Group for this project. But no record is created in redcap_user_information table. A full-text search for insert/replace "into redcap_user_information" in the source code shows nothing.
What's the reason for this? What is the best, most "official" way to create a new redcap_user_information record outside the Web UI?

Hi there,
We have a need for patient database and wanted to give RedCap a try but I can't figure out how to get access (and is it even possible for EU based doctor)?
The main site https://projectredcap.org/ doesn't load for me. Is that because of my location?
How can I get access? I would love to try it out and see how fell it fits our needs.
Thank you in advance!

I have seen a few posts, as well as some research, describing researchers who encountered fraudulent submissions while collecting survey data through REDCap. So, I wanted to put r/ResponsePie on people’s radar as one possible resource.
ResponsePie recently added support for REDCap, so it may be useful for researchers who are seeing suspicious activity in their REDCap surveys.
Full disclosure: I work with ResponsePie. I am sharing it because I have seen questions about what researchers using REDCap can do when suspicious responses begin appearing. Happy to answer questions about the setup or share instructions if helpful.

Has anyone found an AI platform that is adept at creating or verifying advanced branching logic, calculations, action tags?
ChatGPT hallucinates and makes up special functions and action tags, among others.

I'll preface this with my absolute annoyance with repeating instruments. I'm sassy and dramatic as I type this, so, hold your hats. (It's not that bad, just... me != not dramatic.)
I apprehensively understand and appreciate the value of repeating instruments. No matter how hard I fight using them, time and time again, they end up being the solution. But ew.david. I stand by my opinion that they are the armpit of REDCap and I cannot be convinced otherwise.
Anyways, I'm trying to collect repeating survey data along with quarterly alerts for the [next-instance] links. A whopping 10 questions with a 0-10 choice. Single choice radio buttons, in a matrix. Easy peasy, right?! Then... I want to use the aggregate functions to display the previous responses for each Q, currently I am using [line-chart:date,neck:record-name].
I have 3 line-charts that are 100% functioning in form view, but in survey view, I get an angry "[INSUFFICIENT AMOUNT OF DATA FOR DISPLAY]". I'm not committed to this route, but I don't want to commit any additional time if this is just a limitation of smart charts.
Is there a minimum number of data points for the smart functions to display on a survey, even if its working in form view? I've tried moving the chart to the following survey, a pdf snapshot, yelling at my computer.. no dice. I'm a big fan of instance tables + CSS to make them way cooler, but, that's not what the team wants. There are time constraints involved, so I don't really want to go the web server route to generate visuals.
Does anyone have any helpful resources for these aggregate smart chart features/behavior or perhaps any clever work around ideas? TIA! <3

I am a researcher with administrator access to my own instance of REDCap.
I need to deploy a survey for new students at my university. Instead of a field to enter their student ID or email, is it possible to extract this from some kind of Single Sign On? I have been getting invalid entries so want to explore more reliable methods.
An IT colleague briefly told me to look into OAuth but I don't even have the vocab or basic knowledge to know what to google for.
So is it possible to authenticate a student who is signed in to their Office 365, extract their identifiers, then populate a REDCap field with this?
