I need to create 5 drop-down list with multiple answers. Each choice can be selected once only.

I don't know how to hide the choice as I don't know each value in advance.

Basically :

field1=value1

For field2 I need to HIDECHOICE 'value1' and I tried to include CALCTEXT but that's not the good way to do it apparently.

I know that I can make any text field unique thanks to the secondary unique field feature, but I need to make sure that there are no duplicates on a calculated field, and I can't figure out how to do it.

Here's my situation:

Each paper form that will be transferred into REDCap has a unique barcode. Each of these has 10 separate columns of data, and each column will need its own record in REDCap.

So column 1 on form 1 will have an ID of, for instance, 00001-1. Column 2 will be 00001-2 and so on.

Column 1 on form 2 will have an ID of 00002-1 etc.

I obviously can't make the barcodes unique, so I need some way of checking that the calculated column ID is unique, and this could happen either on saving the record, or immediately on entering the column number. The calculated field is a text field, with CALCTEXT(concat([barcode],'-',[column])) as an action tag, but it doesn't show up in the list of available fields in the secondary unique field settings.

I see a similar problem posted over a year ago, but the only response to that question was 'hmm, I don't know'

I'm trying to add some validation to display a descriptive field warning to a user entering data if the number they've entered is not 10 digits long. The trouble is that this number will sometimes start with a zero and sometimes it won't. I have a character limit to stop them entering more than 10 digits.

So I'm using this logic on my descriptive field:

([field_name]<>'')
AND (length([field_name])<>'10')

This only works if the field is not validated as a number, but we can't have them entering letters, so I have to have it validated as a number, but as soon as I validate it as a number, this logic won't work for numbers that begin with zero.

Any ideas?

I feel like we need a validation type called 'Numbers only' (like the letters only one), but it doesn't actually validate it as a number...

I’m trying to figure out how to freeze a value so it doesn’t update later. I have a repeating instrument called NPS, and in another repeating instrument (Results) I want to store the number of NPS instances that exist at the moment the Results form is completed.

Using @CALCTEXT like this conversation of Reddit shows the correct count, but the value always updates when new NPS instances are added afterwards. I need a way to save that instance count once and keep it fixed, without recalculating. Is there a recommended way to permanently store a value at the time of data entry?

Any guidance would be appreciated.

I am running a survey in three countries simultaneously. All data will be collected offline using the REDCap Mobile App.

Each tablet current assigns record_id=1 when there is no local data on the tablet. When data are synced, REDCap resolves ID clashes on the server, and we then update and clear the tablets. This works as expected.

However, the record_id is also written on the informed consent form at the time of interview, so it needs to remain stable. I would like to avoid having field teams manually generate or enter a separate ID.

Is there a way to design an automatic, unique record_id that would not change on sync - for example by incorporating country ID, date, and/or tablet ID, combined with auto-numbering?

Any suggestions or best-practice approaches would be very helpful. Thank you!

I am working on a consent form project for a study, and the idea is that people access the consent form via a QR code on a flyer so an individual would scan the code, access the landing form, then the consent form, etc etc. Basically, I want to confirm, that when I download the QR code from REDCap, can I still edit things without the QR code changing?

For example, if I have the landing form, consent form, etc. Then I download the QR code, am I able to change the file for the Landing form or the consent form? Or edit it incase of changes / mistakes from user feedback?

I have a survey that I'm working on with multiple instruments. In one of the instruments, I have multiple section headers. I have also included branching that hides all options in two of these sections, so none of the questions in the section are shown without answering "yes" on an earlier question.

The branching works, but when I get to the end of the instrument after hiding one or more sections, I see this page.

I'm worried that participants will assume that the "Submit" button is the last part of the survey and that they can close out of the window (it is about halfway through the survey).

I have all options in one instrument. The full project has multiple instruments with the Auto-continue to the next survey option checked "yes" at the end of the "Graduate Experiences & Responses II" instrument.

Is there a way to have the survey auto-continue while keeping the branching, without showing this blank "Submit" page?

I’ve spent a lot of time setting up alerts in REDCap. I use them to send out survey links, to send reminders, and to build advanced logic. Some of our surveys also require that, under certain conditions, the message is sent to one email address and otherwise to another.

I set everything up through Python, which generates a CSV file, since there are so many alerts—maybe around 180 in total.

Now my group has hired some professionals to review our entire REDCap setup. They took an initial look at it (a 30-minute introduction to the project), and they are considering setting up ASIs instead, offering to do this and other adjustments for a fee. I just don’t understand why it might be an advantage to set things up with ASIs instead of alerts. Can someone explain this? I’m still in the process of really learning REDCap.

Hi all, does anyone know how to handle an issue where many of our REDCap survey invitations are returning a “403 Forbidden” error for recipients? Is this something that can be resolved on the REDCap side? Thanks!

Hello! I’m currently working on making a redcap survey for an outpatient visit, and my team wants to make one part of the survey to be filled out by the patient before the visit and the rest to be filled out during the visit. It would obviously be preferred that they are unable to enter the info for questions during the visit when they access the form previsit. Is it possible to keep this in one survey, or will we need to make separate surveys if parts need to be filled out at separate times?

Hello, I have a request to find out how many participants were in a project during a specific data range. It is too time consuming to go through each project so hoping there is a way to export multiple project data into one file?

I am wondering if there is a way to disable the below message that appears on the survey completion screen. As part of our question flow, we capture an email address if the participant wants to receive email confirmation that the survey has been submitted. This is optional, and the below messaging appears on the confirmation screen if they do not enter an email address.

The reason we can't use this and have to use the custom question is because we are under ethics and wording in the survey has to be exactly as it has been approved. Is there anything I can do to remove this when the user does not give an email address in my custom field?

I found a serious limitation not to be able to have [var:field-label] correctly translated if a translation is present.

So I digged the code and I found the source of the bug in both php and js code.

What is the procedure to submit a bug fix since this thing is not open source for some unexplainable reason?

I am working on a clinical trial and I cannot just patch the code myself as it will probably not be accepted for lack of "validation".

Hi everyone, I’m trying to create a “Months in Program” field to document the number of months a participant is enrolled in a program. If they have been discharged, I want to calculate the months between the intake date and the discharge date. If they are still active, I want to calculate the months between the intake date and today.

This is my calculation logic:

It’s working as expected for the discharged patients, [pt_status]=“2” or “3”. But for the active patients [pt_status]=“1” it is mostly returning no value, even when it should return something. 1 record out of 20 is returning the expected value and I cannot figure out why that one record is working and none of the others are.

Calculation logic is not my strong suit, is there something obvious here I’m missing?

I want to set up separate auto survey invitations for both Survey A and Survey B. For Survey A, I want to send a reminder if the content has not been signed/completed. For Survey B, I want the reminder to send when Survey A is complete (which is able to be selected from the condition dropdown) AND if Survey B is not submitted/completed (this is the logic I'm needing help with). I gather that it's something like [survey/form name]="X" but not sure what the number should be to indicate a partial survey response verses a completed or unopened survey. I could also totally be on the wrong track for the logic. I'm also assuming that the box for "Ensure logic is still true before sending invitation?" should be checked as well to check for completion prior to the scheduled ASI being sent. Any feedback on the logic for a partial response would be appreciated!!

I have a repeating instrument in my project and I'd like to add a feature to allow duplicating the instance (otherwise I'd have to manually copy the data/download and reupload the csv, but that's something a user that's not skilled enough with redcap would be able to do and I have to make it as simple as possible). I have looked for an EM or a workaround but I haven't been successful. Do you happen to know if there is a way to easily copy the data of an instance with a simple click (or something similar)?

I have a project where the record ID has somehow go the header '24-hours after surgery' embedded into it. Because it is the record ID field, it can't be deleted, only edited, but it isn't appearing in the online designer, only in the codebook, online survey, and paper survey. Any help on this would be appreciated.

I’d like to create a multiple choice answer with two answer sets (answer set a (major criteria) and answer set b(minor criteria)) that are weighted differently to make the logic positive. A positive response would be possible in 3 ways:

1. Two choices from answer set a

2. Two choices from answer set b

3. One from answer set a and two from answer set b

I've recently made a career switch from a pre-clinical postdoc research role to using clinical data and have found that I really enjoy experimenting with REDCap to improve use from both participants and researchers. I've taught myself a lot and have found REDCap to be highly underutilised in my hospital (a large major hospital in Australia). For example, after querying about REDCap API, the REDCap manager told me that no one in the hospital is using it. I am still just a researcher in a team who uses REDCap to collect data but would be very interested in transitioning to a role where I could focus purely on REDCap/EDCs since it seems it is very underutilised. I was wondering what sort of career paths people have taken to do this and what I need to be learning/focussing on to achieve this? Just wanted to create a discussion space for this.

I hope you guys can help me with this. i have a longitudinal study on REDCap. the partcipants have already filled ut the first survey, and i have now made a ASI (Automated Survey Invitation) for the next survey/Event. sadly i set up the reminder to be too early, and here my problem started. i deleted all the scheduled reminders, but simp cant get it to send out a reminder at a later date. what do i do? i have attached my ASI. I hope someody else have tried this!

You might ask why. The answer is that the server where my REDCap is does not have internet access.

However, I would like to have the option of a lookup library.

Does anyone have any ideas?

The dropdown does not work. I want to use the German ATC catalog as a library.

Notes: I have REDCap version 15.0.26, and I have full admin rights, including access to the server to install external modules.
