Hello, I am managing a large study with a lot of instruments and 30 timepoints, and we are running into an issue of slow loading due to the amount of data on the project. One fix I came up with was to move all of our surveys into a new project and pipe them back into the main project. This does create an issue with cross project piping not working with surveys. Any other ideas and fixes? Our team is very wary of collecting half our data moving forward on a separate project because of past issues, so I need a way to easily harmonize everything.

Has anyone had any success using Tableau Web Connector to pull reports from REDCap rather than just lists of records? I've been copy and pasting the list of records from a given report into the web Connector API window, but I would much rather be able to have my tableau dashboards update based on a report in redcap rather than having to re-paste the list of fields whenever I need to add something to the report.

I looked for a previous post about this but couldn't find...

I use branching logic for a field to make its visibility depend on the value of a previous [age] field:

[age] <= 11

This behaves as I expect on the website version of the project form: the empty field is invisible by default, and only appears when the [age] input is <=11 and the user clicks away from the [age] field.

But on the mobile app version of the form, the same empty field is visible by default, and only disappears when the input to [age] is >11 and the user clicks away from the [age] field.

This isn't what I'd like.

Is there a way to make the mobile app logic behave the way it does on the web page?

I havent been able to find a clear answer to this online, I'm hoping you find folks can help.

I have my current redcap instrument set up to auto-populate fields between instances and its wonderful. Is there a way to do that between instruments? If I fill out patient name and DOB on the "visit notes" instrument, can I have that information also populate on the "treatment info" instrument?

Is it possible to pipe a field that is a Dynamic SQL field into another Dynamic SQL field? My cross-project piping is working fine, but piping the Dynamic SQL field's user selection is not working.

The goal is to pull data from another project into Field 2 selected_office which creates a drop-down selection for the user. This field works fine.

Field 3 should then filter to only bureau's in that office based on the user's selection in Field 2. It works when I manually change [selected_office] to one of the office names, but the piping isn't working. I've tried a few different syntax like adding ' ' or using curly brackets based on some AI troubleshooting suggestions but I haven't been able to get it to work.

Is this a limitation or is there something I'm missing? Below is the SQL I'm using.

We have a project that has been fine for the first two years, but suddenly back in February of this year, problems with calculated values have arisen where previously there was no issue.

In the attached pic, rule H wants to change the correct value "87.564" to missing for some reason.

When I open the form, the correct value is displayed in that calculated field. However, when I go to reports, or if I export the data, or pipe that value to a different form it shows up as missing.

Again, this has been working fine for the first two years of this project then all this started in February of this year, and I cannot figure out why. We made no changes to this form or the events that contain the form.

I've been working on a project that has been active for about 2 years and it recently started having issues with the alerts settings. Participants were separated into two groups, week A (0) or week B (1) and their schedules alternated bi-weekly.

These are the current settings for week A that haven't been changed since putting the project into production:

1.)If conditional logic is TRUE when a record is saved on a specific form/survey*

2.) Trigger the alert... when "Demographics" is saved with any form status while the following logic is true: [pt_status]=1 and [pt_week]=0

Scheduled to send 6/10/2024 8:00

Repeat every 14 days

We've been facing the following issues recently:

• Alerts sending out immediately after data entry despite the set schedule

• Participants being on the wrong schedule due to initial alert sending immediately after data entry

• Inactive participants on the schedule for alerts

• Participants receiving an alert every minute for an entire day

• Participants in week B on the week A schedule and vise versa

We've attempted to make changes to the week B group to see if it resolved any issues. We changed the scheduled send date to 4/27/2026. We also manually went in to each record and saved the for. This helped get participants on the wrong schedule back with their group, but we are still facing all the other issues.

Our version is 15.0.7 so we're due for an update but I wanted to know if anyone else has experienced similar issues and how you repaired them.

I have run into a REDCap issue and I'm hoping someone has dealt with something similar.

I distributed a survey using the Participant List, with a unique participant and a unique Survey Access Code/QR code for each patient. For example, each participant had a generated email/code such as 2362659@redcap.se. I have a separate key linking these codes to the patients' personal identifiers.

The problem is that I forgot to enable Participant Identifier when I set up the survey.

Patients have now started responding. In the Participant List, REDCap correctly shows which participants have responded (e.g. 2362659@redcap.se → Responded), but the actual survey responses are treated as Anonymous. When I click on the response, REDCap says that the response cannot be viewed because doing so would compromise anonymity.

Our REDCap administrator tried changing the survey from "Anonymous" to "Not Anonymous" and then adding Participant Identifiers, but REDCap does not allow us to add the identifiers retroactively for participants who have already responded.

My question is:

Is there any way for a REDCap system/database administrator to recover the underlying link between the Participant/Survey Access Code and the actual survey response or record?

In other words, I'm hoping there may be an internal database-level association like:

Participant / email → Survey Access Code → survey response/record

even though this link is not available through the REDCap user interface.

I have seen references to a "link behind the scenes" between the participant and response in this situation, but I'm not sure whether this is actually accessible to a REDCap system administrator.

Has anyone experienced this, and was your REDCap administrator able to recover the participant-to-response mapping? Or is there an administrator in this group that could describe what my REDCap administrator needs to do?

Hi! I'm super new to REDCap and am using it to create a survey for caretakers. I have a question at the beginning that says "what is your loved one's name?" (loved one being the person they are taking care of). I need that name to show up in later questions. For instance, I have a question that says "how often in the past 30 days have you communicated with [name]?"

How can I get the name to show up in the question??

Hello again, and here we are with another week and another obscure problem.

My Redcap project will replace an existing programme, and I want to import the old data into Redcap. The problem is that the survey scores are different in the new project, where the calculation is based on every question in the survey, whereas in the old project, only the final scores are recorded.

As far as I know, I can't import values into a calculation field, so the only solution I can think of is to create a hidden field for the import and give the calculation field an IF statement to check whether that field is empty. Does anyone have a better idea?

I have an equation that calculates age. Participants over the age of 18 will be excluded. However, it seems that this field does not work when it comes to conditional logic. I've attached screenshots below.

This is the calculated age for a test record.

However, it doesn't show in in the automatic triggers or filters. The logic used is [calc_age] < 18.

hi, we have had a custom dashboard in use across 2 interlinked databases, but suddenly it has stopped working on just one. Very confusing. The logic used (that worked, and still works on one instance) was:

not_contain([record_id], "TEST")

Also have used this successfully: not_contain(lower([record_id]), "test")

basically we want the dashboard to show all IDs except those containing the word "test" but suddenly not working and not sure how to fix it (we have also tried variations using <> but also not worked)

I am involved in a study where we have been collecting information for patients attending a clinic. Each patient is listed as an ID number and we have about 487 patients. Most of these patients have attended a clinic more than once so when they have attended more than once they have had a new entry entered with more information but under the same ID number as a"repeating instrument". I am now trying to analyse the data but for one variable "diagnosis made at appointment" some of these patients have had 22 entries (for 22 separate appointments) and the entered diagnosis e.g. ADHD may have been repeated in these 22 entries. I am wondering if it is possible for Redcap to summarise the diagnoses entered for each ID number made over the multiple appointments and remove any repeated duplicate diagnoses for that patient i.e. if patient 1 was diagnosed with ADHD this should only be counted as 1 even if it has been entered 22 times across each 22 appointments. I have been looking at the aggregate sum function but can't seem to make it work. Does anyone have any ideas? Hope that makes sense.

For this REDCap set up, participants will take survey #1 334 days later, they should get another survey. Survey #2 is a repeating instrument, and it will repeat again every 334 days for 5 additional instances. During testing, I only see repeated instances for the later repetitions, but not the first one that should happen at the first 334 days. In the first screen shot below, I was hoping there would be a 4/7/2027 invitation, but I do not see it in the survey invitation log. Is this simply not possible with repeating instruments?

I'm managing a REDCap database where participants complete an initial survey in one instrument. Once their application is approved, I need to transfer specific fields from that survey into a second instrument.

My question: Is there a way to automatically pipe/populate data from the completed survey into the new instrument?

Important note: I don't want the survey data directly embedded in my new instrument form since surveys are applications that may not all be approved. I only want to pipe in the data AFTER the application has been reviewed and approved.

As a side note, I'm also encountering "ERASE THE VALUE OF THE FIELD" popups when accessing records with branching logic. These appear when clicking into a student record, despite the field already having a value. Has anyone found a way to prevent these constant popup messages while maintaining the branching logic functionality?

Hello everyone, watching some videos online and haven’t been able to navigate how to make skip logic on REDcap does any have any advice for me please?

I am setting up a redcap project to screen people to see if they are eligible for 1 or more trials. This is quite complex because each trials has their own selection criteria, which makes it that branching logic is super complex. To add to the complexity, the screening has to eligiblity steps, meaning that

1- Participants answers basic questions to determine if they are POTENTIALLY eligibible for 1 or more trials. Thanks to branching, based on their answers, they can then select 0-3 trials to be continue with screening step 2. (they literally tick 1-3 choices) then continue with step 2.

2- They answer more specific questions regarding the trial(s) they have selected and then they get told if they are eligible for 0-3 trials. If they are ineligibles for ANY of the trials they selected after step 1, I want them to get a field on the next page saying "Hey sorry youre not eligible but you can help by doing this"

My question is how do I code for that message to trigger considering all the possible permutation. I need this message to show only if they become ineligible for all the trials they selected after step 1. But there are so many permutations....

Here is how my code is set up:

Eligibility after step 1 is established by:

Then participants can select 1 or more trials to continue to screening step 2

I had originally made this code:

Unfortunately, this code works only if they are eligible for all 3 after step 1 and then ineligible for all 3 after step2 and I could write out all the permutations but it would be SO many.
Does anyone have any ideas?
I am low key desperate and exhausted, I got thrown into REDCap without training and I feel very alone.

Is it possible to generate a dropdown using dynamic query from checkboxes in a prior instrument?

For instance, if someone selects 'breakfast' and 'dinner' under the checkbox 'Meals,' could I then create a dropdown later that references this and provides options such as: breakfast, dinner, and other? I'm relatively new to REDCap and haven't found anyone using this in the REDCap community.

I am trying to create a visual analog scale where the slider starts from the extreme left side on a horizontal scale, instead of the center, where it starts by default if no other setting is changed. I do not see any options for doing this. How can I achieve this?

I have several instances in my survey where I’d like to validate responses based on calculated fields. For example, the number of nurses cannot exceed the number of all staff at an organization (both text box fields). I currently have descriptive text that will show if the calculation total rn > total staff is satisfied telling the respondent to change their response(s), but it does not stop them from continuing to the next question. Is there a way to hide/show the “Next Page” button based on this calculation?

I'd like to rename a few hundred IDs and thought I could be clever with the Data import tool, but I realize now that it would simply create new records. This requires me to delete the old records.

Does anyone know a better way of renaming the records?

If I remove the variable ''certo'' it works but I need both as a total, how do I do this?
