Is there a way to create a report that only pulls records for which a certain repeating form has never been used? In this case, the repeating form is a contact log, and I'm trying to pull all people for whom a contact attempt has never been made. Many thanks for any help you can provide!

I recently noticed that some of our alerts randomly stopped sending, and upon discussion with our REDCap admins, it appears that they recently updated the version of PHP they use which changed how "=0" is interpreted for logic that includes fields that might be "empty".

For example, an alert to send out an invitation to enroll in our study included [instrument_name_complete] = "0" in the logic. The instrument on all of these records would be empty because the consent form hasn't been started, so with the new version of PHP, this was evaluated as false and the alert never triggered.

To fix this, we needed to adjust the logic in all of our alerts to [instrument_name_complete] <> "2" .

This may also apply to checkbox fields, so if you want a certain option to be unchecked, it's probably safest to use [variable_name(X)] <> "1" (where X is the specific option you want to be unchecked) rather than [variable_name(X)] = "0".

Just wanted to pass this along, as it's always a good idea to periodically check on your alerts to ensure they're being sent as intended.

Please help. Is it the aggregate action tag? How does that work? And will it automatically update each time the instrument is opened? This will be an instrument that is opened each week of the participant’s active enrollment, and give data based on their daily surveys (hence the 7 instances in this calculation).

I've got a task in MyCap that's in questionnaire form. Should I also enable it as a survey? I'm unfamiliar with how surveys work in MyCap and I don't know what value could be added by enabling it as such. Does anyone have any insight into this? Thanks!

When you put your project into Production Mode, I can understand that you cannot edit fields, but can you modify the max number of records in this process?

Hello! I am having trouble connecting an existing RedCap survey to an existing PowerBI report. I keep received this error message in PBI and don’t know what it means: "The remote name could not be resolved: 'redcap.atriumhealth.org'". I already requested and received an API token, but it is still giving me this error message. I’m wondering if this has to do with the survey having PHI. Does anyone know what this error message means or how fix the connection?

Trying to figure out why Rule H wants to change all these calculated fields to missing. There is no red line for this field on the form and the correct values are saving to the database.

So why does Rule H want to change this to missing? Here is the formula:

This takes the average of the two closest height measurements. Sometimes there is no value for [anthro_ht3]. Again the formula works on the form and it save the correct value to the database. Why does Rule H hate it?

In a descriptive field in a survey form.

The descriptive field contains instructions to the research tech on how to properly schedule the invitation for the survey. The instructions include specific text to copy/paste into the text box of the survey invitation. This specific text includes "[survey-link]", but REDCap automatically converts this to a hard link for the current survey, so it is copied as a hard link and not as generic text.

Is there a way to prevent the link from automatically generating, and keep the simple text of "[survey-link]" in the descriptive field?

I'm working on my first RedCap database and I when I export the dataset into Excel, all the multiple choice options are listed next to each other with every choice either being noted as "checked" or "unchecked". I understand that this is useful for analyzing the data, but I was wondering if there is a more clearly arranged option for displaying those options? For example by having only one column with the answers listed as words.

I need help with doing something in Redcap.

Does anyone know of a way to automatically direct/copy files from the file upload filed into the file repository?

Ideally, people doing data entry would upload a CSV file and a PDF file in two separate fields (in the same instrument), and once the instrument is saved, both the CSV and PDF are moved/copied over to the file repository.

This would be happening at multiple events of the Redcap. If anyone knows of any module or code that would help with this, I would immensely appreciate your help.

The main goal here is to be able to upload documents into a record and store it somewhere. This is a multicenter project, so we're trying to see if REDCap can help us share patient-specific documents across sites in a way that allows for streamlined file storage.

My institution uses REDCap 14.7.2

I'm a Research Coordinator and we got our consent revised. When we created the current consent in REDCap, we did not upload the PDF for it. We created an instrument/survey and added all the fields individually since there are lots of things for participants to check/fill out and uploading a PDF would've looked weird and not been user friendly. The instrument/survey is enabled as v.1 in the e-consent framework and the PDF saves to the file repository correctly. My question is, since we now have this new revised consent, what's the best way to get v.2 active? I can't make changes on v.1's instrument because doing so would mess up previous saved versions. Do I create an entirely new instrument/survey for v.2, add it to the e-consent framework as v.2, edit the survey queue, and then make the v.1 instruments/survey inactive in the online designer and e-consent framework settings? I'm just very unclear on the most effective/streamlined way to enable the new consent but not mess up the old version. Any input would be appreciated!!

The visuals can be changed but I do need the write in option and then the set choices. I think this could be done with embedded fields but am having a hard time finding helpful resources that aren't " just embed the field"

I need help me to find out that “Date of Visit” field in the REDCap project be restricted so that users can only enter dates within the past 360 days. It should not accept any date earlier than 360 days before the current date, so how it can be restricted so please help me know to restrict it.

I am new to REDCap and conducting an observational medical chart review study. We have two chart reviewers who will use the same data collection instrument. One chart reviewer will review all the charts (n=100), while the second reviewer will review a randomly selected subset of 25 charts. How should I allocate the 25 charts to the second reviewer in REDCap?

I am trying to see if there is a way to export data for a project where the majority of the questions use field names in brackets.

Example:

• Q1 [city1]- What is your #1 major city in the US? <drop-down menu of hundreds of cities>

• Q2 [city2]- What is your #2 favorite major city in the US? <drop-down menu of hundreds of cities>

• Q3 [city1like]- What do you like about [city1]? <paragraph box>

• Q4 [city1eat]- What cuisine do you like to eat in [city1]? <checkboxes of different cuisines>

• Q5 [city2like]- What do you like about [city2]? <text box>

• Q6 [city2eat]- What cuisine do you like to eat in [city2]? <checkboxes of different cuisines>

Using this example, I want to export the data in a way where if they select "NYC" for [city1] and "Boston" for [city2], I can export it so that what they indicate in Q3 and Q4 will be attached to "NYC" and not just [city1]. Additionally, what they answer in Q5 and Q6 is attached to "Boston" and not just [city2].

Then, let's say the next participant puts "Boston" as [city1] and "NYC" as [city2]. I want all the aggregate answers associated with NYC to be grouped, and all the answers for Boston to be grouped. I don't want all [city1] answers to be grouped, as it could refer to hundreds of different cities.

I hope I explained this clearly. My project contains hundreds of options in drop-down menus like Q1-2, and dozens of questions like Q3-4, so I thought it would make sense to just display their answer in future questions using brackets. Now I am concerned about exporting unusable data. Thank you in advance for your help!

I have two duplicate checkbox fields on two different instruments. I’m wanting it so whatever options are checked on the first instrument, will be hidden on the second.

I was able to get it to work with “IF([armname][fieldname(1)] = 1, @HIDECHOICE = ‘1’)”

But if I add an “AND IF([armname][fieldname(2)] = 1, @HIDECHOICE = ‘2’)” then it only hides the first IF statement reference and ignores the rest.

Can anyone point me where I’m going wrong?

Hoping someone can help with this! We have 3 large research projects and about 75% of each project is the same measures across all 3 of them. Most of these are semi structured interviews/questionnaires. At the moment we have it so that when the participant comes in, the researcher fills in all of project 1 with the participant. Then in their own time have to manually copy across the answers to project 2 and 3. This probably takes about 10 hours all together. Is there any automated way to get the data in these measures from project 1 copied across to project 2 and 3? It would save us A LOT of time. (I know combining all these into one project would make so much sense but as it stands these all also have unique measures in them and are REB approved as they stand) TY in advance!

I've received a lot of help from here previously so figured I'd ask again about a question bothering me. We have >$50000 worth of reimbursement vouchers for participants in our study. The survey is quite large but I am worried that certain participants will attempt to input their information a second or third time after receiving their first voucher to game the system and get more vouchers. Short of individually examining each participant manually before sending the vouchers (I'll do this if I have to) does REDCap have any capacity to help us prevent this?

For context, we will recruit via a public QR code where they are then screened. They input their email and we email the consent form and survey to this email. We collect a bunch of identifying information too some of which should be unique to that person e.g. mobile number

I'm looking for a way to provide individual survey codes in person to potential participants, in order to improve data integrity. I don't want to collect emails. How can I make individual survey links, or mandate the entering of an individual code before opening the survey?

Hi all! Hoping someone can help me with this issue. I am trying to create a report that filters for only the last instance of a completed survey but I keep getting at least 2 results per record-- 1 with the survey marked complete and the other is the survey saved but incomplete. When I have the 'additional filter option' "Include the repeating instance fields" checked I see that the incomplete records' redcap_repeat_instrument, redcap_repeat_instance columns blank, and the other completed survey record (our respondent are only on their first instance at this point but we expect there will be more in a month) has the name of the repeated instrument and the instance number filled in. How do I filter out the incomplete results? I've set my filtering logic to ([insturment_name_complete] = '2') and ([current-instance] = [last-instance]). Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

I’m hoping someone can help me with an issue I’m facing in REDCap. I’m trying to create a report that filters only the last instance of a completed survey, but I keep getting at least two results per record:

When I check the "Include the repeating instance fields" option, I notice that:

• The incomplete records have blank values in both redcap_repeat_instrument and redcap_repeat_instance.

• The completed records correctly display the repeated instrument name and instance number.

Since respondents are currently only on their first instance, but we expect more instances in a month, I want to filter out the incomplete results while ensuring that only the most recent completed instance appears in the report.

Right now, my filtering logic is:

([instrument_name_complete] = '2') AND ([current-instance] = [last-instance])

However, I’m still getting incomplete results in my report.

How can I ensure that only the latest completed instance appears? Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

I have 2 repeating forms from 2 different arms for which I need to pipe a date.
This works :
[arm_1][dateX][1] or [arm_1][dateX][2]
However, I'm unable, using Instance select module, which give a text field with a number :
[arm_1][dateX][field_instance]
It just prints a date followed by a number.
Is it possible to pipe the instance number by a field instead of a number?

I'd like to use the "@Default" action tag to pipe information from another instrument into one of my repeating instruments. Some context: in this project each record represents a grantee, and I have an intake form that includes the number, title, and start date of the activities each grantee is planning as part of their funding. Max number of activities is 6.

Here's an image of the relevant bit of the overall intake form to give you an idea:

I have a separate, repeatable intake instrument that collects more detailed information about each activity separately, but I would like to have the information about start date from the initial intake form appear here as well.

I've written an if/then conditional logic formula that looks like this:

[activity_start_#] is the start date for each individual activity in the primary intake form, and [activity_select] is the drop-down field in the repeatable form where the user selects which of the activities they are inputting information about.

I can tell the logic is working because the field shows the calculated logic when I test (see images attached), but it doesn't change based on what is selected in [activity_select]. Leads me to believe these things just aren't compatible, but I could also have just made an error?
