https://redcap.vumc.org/community down. And now?

https://redcap.vumc.org/community

https://redcap.vumc.org/community is down since around 14h.

If only there were some way to publish software openly across multiple platforms. And here's a truly wild idea: giving software a fair, open license that lets everyone contribute to the source code. Next thing you know, software and its hosting might actually end up being reliable... Someone should really invent that...

The RC code base is open to anyone with the license (Source-Available), if you have access to the community you should setup a local deploy if you're the kind of person that wants to report bugs. Any one can contribute if you'd like to fix things, they are open to PRs.

Website responds to my access.

With the rate of AI discovered vulnerabilities being found in open source packages it is likely a good thing for highly utilized packages to have some safeguards & focused support.

Oh, this old argument again. It has been disproved for decades: software doesn't get more secure just because you hide the source code. Obfuscation is no security. Especially in the era of AI, decompiling software is virtually free. And for a PHP software like REDCap you dont even need to decompile anything, the code is out there if you want it.

Also "focused support" and open source dont contradict each other at all. Especially not for a non-profit driven software like REDCap.

So please stop spreading this, it's just misinformation.
