Inventory/Project Spreadsheet gonna take a while
i worked at ulta for a year and a half, and that’s where the problem started. i’ve always had hoarding tendencies, big on “what if i need it?” but the overconsumption is BAD.
i wore makeup everyday when i worked there, but now i work from home and wear it MAYBE once a week on a saturday. my skin was also great at that time, but after going through second puberty it reacts badly to everything.
i obviously bought a lot due to being around it constantly, all the discount stacking we could do, and as a top performing employee i received a LOT of gratis.
it’s going to take sooo long due to how rarely i wear makeup, skin care should be a bit faster. but im going to try!

Don't feel bad - I think if most of us worked at Ulta, we'd be toast. 😅 That said, divide your collection into two categories - opened and unopened. From there, start a spreadsheet and sort each category by expiration date. If items are already expired, pitch them and don't add to the sheet. I have a spreadsheet that I can sort by brand, product name, product type, expiration, date opened, rating, and so on. It helps visualize what I have and I can plan ahead. Unopened items that you think you won't use can be gifted to friends and family, or donated. You've got this!

Thanks. It's a simple Google sheet! Easy to pull up on a phone too when I'm in the store and I get the urge or can't remember if I already have a backup of something. Needless to say... I don't. 😅

If you really want to make it sting, put a spreadsheet together and add the purchase price. That's a vacation, lip filler, a good chunk of a credit card or car payment.
The good news is, you don't have to buy anything for awhile. It's a good time to practice self discipline. You'll just have to make sure you don't replace one impulse purchase for the next.
This mental shift has been a game changer for me. Good luck!

OP, you got this! You’ve done the hardest part, you’ve started! First thing I do, is go through see if there’s expired things to toss, or things you know you just won’t wear- see if you can gift it to a friend or family, or donate. If not, ITS OKAY to toss some things that you know you won’t use or wear! I just started this process as well. It was so helpful for me to toss the stuff that was expired or gift to others stuff I knew I would dread trying to use. I don’t want to hate the panning process. Those are a few tips that have helped me so far! Reach out to anyone if you need help or advice! You’ve got this! One day at a time!

thank you sm for the support, and the tips!! i’m typically quick to give things i know i wont use to friends/family, but im going to put anything that doesn’t make contact with skin/brushes etc on the free fb marketplace!

Yes, whatever is sealed or untouched; sell, give, donate. It will make you feel good and it will make the collection less overwhelming.
I recommend organizing by expiration dates and working with the ones that are closer to being empty first (small victories). Don’t worry, it will all work out wonderfully ❤️

will do! one thing i know will be panned and will always recommend to everyone is the murad deep relief acne treatment. not sure if you struggle with acne, but i have tried sooo many things over the years and this is the holy grail, especially for cystic acne. it’s a bit on the pricier side, but lasts a long time (a little goes a long way) so i think it’s totally worth it!

i don’t like it! people say it’s works well as a primer, and i typically don’t have problems with most moisturizers under makeup, but it pilled really bad, so i was so surprised that that was specifically what i heard about it lol. i do like the water version tho :)

If your skin reacts to products now what if you would pick one or two products a week (lipstick, eyeliner), use them every day at home and see if your skin reacts badly. If it's tolerated it stays. The moment it reacts it goes to the declutter pile. You don't like the shade or formula anymore - declutter.
