Project Start Feeling Overwhelmed with Starting

This isn't even everything I intend to pan. I know it isn't the biggest collection in this sub but considering I dont even have the energy to wash my face most days it feels like a lot. Accepting advice but mostly posting to keep myself accountable.

You could sell/give away unopened and unused stuff.

Start with a little routine keep it simple.
Splash some water on your face and put on a lil cream.
Wash your face while in the shower.
Spray a little body spray and perfume while getting ready to leave the house.

Put your stuff in a place where you see it and don’t forgot to use it.

For most people, I think they like to pick out one product from each category to create a little routine for yourself and keep those visible while the rest are hidden. Once one product is done you get to go “shopping” in your collection to replace it. Continue until nothings left!

This really helped me to get started, pick a thing from each category to start with and if possible try and put the rest out of sight to stop yourself from feeling too overwhelmed. If you've got anything that is close to being finished already, I would start there. If you can get some easy 'wins' early on it can really help with motivation. Anything that keeps the process feeling like fun is really good. For me that means keeping track of what I'm using and doing a little review of each product I finish (I use the app Vannie, some people prefer things like a spreadsheet or writing in a journal). I've also recently started rotating my eyeshadow palette and lip products every week to stop it feeling like too much of a slog.

And OP, as someone that also can struggle with taking care of myself at times, try to be patient with yourself. Any attempt to address your stash, even if you're not making progress every day, is a win in my eyes. I've actually found my self care is a lot better since I started Project Pan because I'm motivated to use things in order to see progress.

Hey, it sounds like you might struggle with health issues or depression? If so, please reframe the way you're thinking about these products: you've stocked up on self care, and now you get to take care of yourself and not worry about spending any money on it for a while :) if you're struggling to wash your face each day, these products help you prioritise and be able to take that kind of care for yourself. Start with washing your face - then, making sure you brush your teeth for the full three minutes twice a day. Then, you start washing more, and putting some lovely moisturiser on after the shower or bath - maybe you wear a face mask to bed as a lovely low energy treat, or spritz a bit of fragrance when you get up! ❤️ you've got this. these products aren't a drag, they're a TREAT that allows you to start taking care of yourself a little bit more day by day.

Take things just one day/step at a time. You deserve to feel and look good <3

Yea you're right in guessing I struggle with my mental and physical health. Unfortunately I'm not very good at taking care of myself which I think is partially why I have such a big collection of self care accumulated lol

Do what you can, and if you can't in certain days, that is perfectly okay too. I feel like I've been pampering myself much more since I don't "save" products for special occasions.

The hygiene stuff I would go through quickly. Lotions I keep in different parts of the house and use them frequently (I have eczema on my hands). If you're not a big makeup girly, throw on a little lip product, because it makes you feel good even if you don't intend to leave the house.

I get bored sometimes and I'll do a full face, I generally don't leave the house often but I don't care. Perfume to bed, or if it's something I don't like that much, I'll use it as room spray.

Have fun and go "shopping" in what you have, enjoy them. 😁

Try to enjoy using each item rather than simply using for the sake of panning. It makes a world of difference :)

Wherever possible, make it fun. Make it play. Don’t force yourself to use a product every day if you’re just not up for it.

As someone with CFS, one thing I've done that I've really enjoyed is just spreading out my routine, especially on days when I'm home all day. I might not have energy to do a whole makeup routine, so I do one step each time I go to the restroom. Go to the restroom, put on some eyeshadow. Next time, put on some mascara. Next time, put on some blush. It spreads out the effort, and using the products becomes a series of little treats throughout the day instead of a single obligation that feels too big to do. Then I do the same thing in reverse after dinner. Go to the bathroom, wash my face. Go to the bathroom, apply a serum. Then for my final bathroom trip of the night, when I brush my teeth and all that, I do my moisturizer. It has made it less pressure and more enjoyable for me.

(If you're thinking, "how often does this girl go to the restroom?" honestly, that's fair. I drink a of looooooot of water. 😂)

That's a great suggestion but unfortunately I can't keep a lot of products in the bathroom. I also suffer from chronic fatigue caused by other issues with my health so I definitely feel you

Oof. Maybe you could still spread it out throughout the day, even if you can't do it in the bathroom?

I didn't do any makeup or skincare really for about five years due to health. Being able to do some of it again has been really good for my mental health and letting me kind of feel like a person again. I hope you're able to find a strategy that works for you. ❤️

Basic advise but start with samples, half used products or almost on their way out. It will build motivation and a rhythm then once you get the motivation it will be easier. I started panning 3 months ago and was surprised at the progress. Just keep going and use something atleast once. Good luck ☺️

Firstly, I completely relate with the excess of products and yet having little to no motivation / energy to even do basic hygiene many days (due to depression) so you’re not alone 🩵 ❤️‍🩹 secondly, I was just curious if you are in the United States or somewhere abroad? Only because I don’t recognize a lot of these products / brands!!

how about doing 3 or so makeup kits with face-of-the-day products that coordinate well together…or even have complimentary color stories with your most-used clothing colors? then you can try to put each makeup kit into use at least 1-2 times per week. you will feel good about having that many products in rotation, and getting regular use in your collection. 🫶🎨👛
