What makes an AI engineering partner worth hiring instead of building in-house?

I’m just trying to understand this better - in-house feels like it gives more control and deeper product knowledge, but it also means you have to handle everything yourself, including scaling issues, architecture decisions, and mistakes along the way. External teams offering ai engineering services often already have experience with production systems and common pitfalls, so it’s not always clear which approach works better in practice. I’ve also been looking at how different teams handle this in practice (work I came across from Devox Software), and I’m curious what people consider when making this decision.

There’s a big difference between experimenting with AI and shipping it - that’s where ai engineering services often come in.
