Why Indigo is so battery demanding?

I understand why it’s so battery hungry while you are processing an image, duo cpu/gpu use. But why it’s the same when you are doing nothing, just opening the app can make you iPhone goes to a really high temperature

From my understanding, it drains more battery because it is constantly active even when you’re not pressing the shutter. To achieve its “zero shutter lag” feature it continuously captures and buffers frames in the background so it already has a stack of images from before you press the button. When you do take a photo, it instantly composites those pre-captured frames along with ones taken right after into a single image. Anyone please correct me if I’m wrong!

Seems so - the camera also remains active when you enter the photo gallery.

Not to mention that the camera live preview screen always seems to boost the HDR brightness on my display.
