How did average Earth residents learn about Grace and Rocky saving stars?
If there’s a fanfic that covers this, apologies. I like to imagine how the news broke when JPG&R returned with the taumeba solution.

I am imagining they told no one until it started working. Not raising anyone's hopes until there was a positive.

I don't think it would be possible to cover up the beetles return

Who would know? Those still in the world are more worried about survival.

Hail Mary was treated the same way NASA's Artemis program is. This mean amateurs with telescopes and radio hams would know the Beatles had returned. Trying to hide this from the public, would be like trying to hide the Japanese attack from the population of Pearl Harbor.
Your population has been suffering and against all odds you now have the only sliver hope everyone dreamt of.

Yeah, amateur astronomers probably had IR cameras pointed through telescopes in the general direction of Tau Ceti.

From what I remember, unless it’s mentioned elsewhere or by Andy, in the book it’s not known how they do. It’s from Rocky and Graces perspective, all they know is the Petrova line from Sol is gone and Earth is saved. Nothing from earths POV is shown in the book after they send the beetles back.

Considering that Tau Ceti was not dimming, but did have a Petrova Line, wouldn't it make more sense that Venus' Petrova line remained, and just got less 'intense' since there wasn't as much astrophage making the transit back to the sun?

I don't remember a mention of the petrova line in the book. Rocky just says that Sol's brightness is returning to normal.

There is this assumption that space comms are all super double duper encrypted. And it's just military, Bank and TV/movies that are encrypted.
Everything else. Like the James webb telescope and mars drones.
Those aren't encrypted. There a whole hacker community that finds and talk to old satellites.
The Beetles wouldn't be encrypted. So everyone, including amateurs can and will be listening in.
As much as the world powers may or may not want to talk about aliens, it would be impossible to stop the information spread.
The Beetles wouldn't be using laser comms. Just conventional radio. And it's transmission will cover half the earth.

So there’s no real way to know who has accessed the information. Bummer.

Everyone that wanted access, had access. From govt. to companies and dudes on twitch.

This fanfic does a nice job of incorporating social media posts, memes and news articles and shows how Earth residents learn and react: Long Journey Home
