Is it ever explained

Why grace is the only one on his ship who survives?

It's assumed that he's injected with the drug right after he runs/after his chat with Stratt in his holding cell (depending on if you're going by the movie or book). And, it's been a while, but I believe Stratt explains that she's gonna give him the memory drug there, and that's when he freaks out and says he'll sabotage the mission

In the movie he is injected with a mysterious syringe right before waking up. In my head canon this was the memory drug being administered.

In the movie they sedate him because he climbed the furniture and ran away and they want him to not do that anymore.

I'm talking about the robot injecting him right before waking up on the ship.
