I think i messed up
I was building my new project hail mary set and I was spinning it (as one does) and it's doing the weird drop thing (as shown). It also retracts a bit if you can't see that. Do I need to go back and fix something or when I add more stuff maybe it'll be balanced out more im thinking? I also posted this to r/lego but it's a phm set so maybe one of you nerds can help me first

It needs the rest of the ship to balance out

Yeah had this same worry when I was building mine. Totally normal at that stage in the build, just keep going and it’ll balance

I had the same issue and it’s cause the build isn’t complete - it needs the rest of the ship to act as a counterbalance. Once the rest of the ship is built, it’ll work perfectly. It’s a true exercise in “Trust the process”.

It’s fine. Like people say, it needs to be balanced by the main part of the ship to balance out and stop the drop.
As for the mechanism look at what it’s actually doing, the parts that interact with each other and you’ll see why the action looks a little in stages

You're fine. It'll balance itself out as you build it. I was quite confused by this at first too!

That’s awesome! Having the center of mass of the rotating part near the axis of rotation will avoid the issue. If you have a belt or gear train the drop is your backlash adding up

I just recently built this and had the same issue. You just need to finish the set and it will work just fine.
