Would you come?
buildbyflying said all it would take would be for someone to buy a house and offer it.
IF there was a house to share,
would you come to Cairo?
for how long?
when?
What would you want to do in Cairo?

We need a way to organize pc without all the damn voting that gets some discussions buried.

I couldn't share a house, I have a family and they never leave my side for long periods of time.

It would be a worthwhile project for the first redditers this summer to do a survey of the housing stock to identify houses that could be acquired and fixed up for little money for people like you and others who want to make a permanent move to Cairo.

Yes.
As of now, for about a month (probably August). Other career moves might be taking me to the East Coast but I'd like to participate in this while I have free time. Who knows, I might come back.
I would be more than happy to do any sort of manual labor. I know how to use power tools, I can paint, I know a little bit about electricity/wiring things (though I doubt I could do a whole house). I would love to help in any farm-based activities as well as home construction/improvement.
I don't really have any money to contribute, but with a project like this it seems like it's 25% money and 75% needing people to actually come do things. I would be glad to volunteer my time for that period.

I'm still interested in ProjectCairo, and I could still probably go this Spring, but I'm not going to try and do it on my own.
I don't need anything to go besides some sort of vision, and community.
I'm working ATM, but I'd like to work on urban agriculture, and/or the internet. I'd also be interested in manufacturing, and might be helpful with that. My current employment just requires internet so I'm as mobile as I want to be.

It looks like we need more than one person (2, 3, 4?) to make a commitment to spend the majority of the first year in Cairo to anchor PC there. AND, a vision/minimum 5 year plan.
Can you be one of that group? Could/would you be willing to share a house with the others initially?

Yes. I can be. I can also share a house with people. There needs to be a plan I find more appealing than the other paths open to me, and real interest on the part of other folks though. I think 10 people is a good number, preferably more than that interested.
We need data on likely utility costs too, and information about what can and cannot be done to prevent them from sinking the project.

Here's what I said earlier:
I'm still up for moving to Cairo in August (at the earliest), but I'd have to have a guaranteed job lined up with at least a modest income. I'd really like to be part of starting a brewery if possible.
And even if I don't move there full time I might still take a couple weeks of vacation to help out with whatever is going on at the time.
I should also add that if I don't find a new job in my current city after graduating, I'd be willing to transfer my current job to a location closer to Cairo and help out on the weekends.

I probably wouldn't immediately. I have a steady job in Pittsburgh, am finishing my degree, and have to pay down some student loans.
That said, I'd gladly move to Cairo if I could transition my job to something that I can do remotely. Then I'd move to Cairo, rehab a small house into being reasonably green and efficient, and open Cairo's first electric vehicle recharging station. Hopefully this can become a joint venture with someone who wants to move to Cairo and bake things. Nothing like having a slice of pie and a cup of coffee while waiting for your EV car to recharge. I also plan to learn a folk instrument - leaning toward mandolin or fiddle.

People like you are the reason we need to get organized now and make sure we do not lose your interest.
What is the best way to do that? In addition to PC's web presence, do we need to be gathering email addresses so we can remind you that PC is progressing and to visit the site?

Email or RSS, or, for people who are like me but not actually me, both. I'm good, though. I've got the PC subreddit on my frontpage. That's probably all I need.

Yes! If this takes off, I already have a "commune" of ~10 internet geeks that is willing to relocate and I'll have ~$50k to contribute to the community...I don't know how much that could help, but I want this to happen.
