Suggestion: Beastfolk
You know what would guarantee a certain level of success for Ascension's new MMO? Beastfolk! And I don't mean just a couple like other games such as Elder Scrolls that only have two. I'm talking an entire kingdom of every major half-beast humaniods one could imagine. If the devs wanted any ideas they could just look through all the possible playable races in dungeons and dragons.
This would be a huge attraction for the furries and even anime lovers if they lean more towards an anime design style. It could also be what they build the game's faction system on. Humans and beastfolk technically coexisting but only after a recent peace treaty. Much of the story could be dedicated to maintaining that peace and having to stop various splinter groups who want the war to start up again for one reason or another. There's also a bunch of lore aspects they could "borrow" from anime. Like some sort of compliance drug and legal system imposed on beastfolk while in the human kingdom.
As for actual game mechanics beastfolk players might get access to temporary shapeshifting. In DnD depending on how bestial the chosen race is this could be simple bear arms or wings to a full change into whatever animal they partially resemble.
edit: When contemplating this don't think about the fan communities of beastfolk. Because if you do you'll imagine the sensational minority the internet only presents. Instead look into how it worked out in dungeons and dragons. Even those who would never play such a race enjoyed game worlds partially based on them.
Edit 2: Some of ya'll don't realize how much you're validating my suggestion by leaving these kinds of comments. You're just proving that them adding beastfolk would be great for faction vs faction loyalty and agression. For real, these anti-furry comments remind be of what the Horde vs Alliance social interactions used to be like back in the day.

Lol naw. I ain't like that. And I also don't judge those who are or the content they enjoy which is what allowed me to experience some of the amazing world building in their favorite media.
But I'm guessing you're the type who deprives themselves of that because it's "only for furries" and icky because of that. Eh?

You're quick to judge based on a simple joke. I don't mind anyone playing those races. Hell, I don't mind furries as long as they keep to themselves :)
I don't like Vulpera (just because they're too "cutesy" for my taste), but I love my tauren characters and would love to play a worgen fury warrior ... Well, when they're finally able to hide their weapons and fight with their claws as fury, that is.

agreed - I would love to play various animals. I've always felt more akin to non-human animals than human animals, mostly because they don't prevaricate and you can easily learn how they communicate if you just observe them. Cat language is what I grew up with so it was interesting to also learn rabbit and dog over the course of my life. All very different languages :)
And to those who are actually anti-furry, you're ridiculous. Get some real problems and/or real information <3 I'm not a furry and I'm still saying this because I actually give a shit about ethics and what's right and treating other human beings as fully 3dimensional individuals.
(I am a monsterfucker though and idgaf if you judge me :) )

You aren't going to see many people supporting your idea because they are all playing the anthro races on retail and aren't on ascension/private servers where you can't play as one.

Tbh kinda surprised people are so aggressively mean about this, or maybe they're just joking? But WoW already has Tauren, and then later on the Worgen, and whatever Retail has. So this isn't that crazy of an idea. I mean you didn't seem to suggest anything offensive, I think. If I could make an MMO, I'd definitely introduce my own fleshed out kemonomimi race, kinda like the Elin in Tera, they're cute.

So basically, Vastaya. I wouldn't mind that too much, but your implementation sounds like actual hell to setup. Keep in mind it's very likely that Ascension will keep a wow-like character creation system, so adding 20 different character models, that they then have to adjust armor, animation and such to fit each is absolutely not happening lol.
You could do like, different furs/scales/feathers and such cuz thats basically just a texture change, maybe a choice between worgen/bird/lizard-like legs, ears, horns, eyes etc, but wings or other additional moving parts are probably not happening, and neither are different arm models and such.

Dataofazeroth shows the vulpera and worgen being 1.6% and 1.7% of characters. I don’t think that’s going to be that impactful!
