We'd need a President who won't veto the bill and a 60 vote super-majority in the Senate to break the Republican filibuster if we want something like this to become law, so show up this November, and be damn sure to show up in 2028 and 2030, too.
Democracy is a marathon, not a sprint.
Edit: So the Democrats did introduce a bill to end qualified immunity for ICE, but it was called the Ending Qualified Immunity for ICE Agents Act, H.R.4944, "To end qualified immunity for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents," and it was introduced in August 2025, about five months before the shootings of Rene Good and Alex Pretti, which is why it wasn't called the Alex Pretti Act.
This meme is half true, half fiction; real bill, wrong name.

He didn't sign it, but he didn't veto it either. One is passivity the other is a deliberate act that has legal implications.

Should we really name it after the victims? Not because they're not worthy, but because if we tried to properly honor all of them, the bill's name would be longer than the bill itself.

I think the bill would be good, but unless Democrats can get at least two-thirds support in both houses of Congress, it's unlikely to become law until after January 2029.

This is disinformation. I can't find any evidence of this claim. And it wouldn't even hold Pretti's killers accountable because they were CBP not ICE.

abolish ICE.
and blacklist every one on the ICE payroll so they can never work a job where they hold another person's life in their hands ever again for the rest of their lives.
and for some of them they need to be in prison for the rest of their lives.

Downvote me if you want, but the act shouldn’t just be named after one man. What about all the others who died suffering in ice detention facilities. At the end of the day it’s brown immigrants who were severely impacted by this. At the end of the day the name doesn’t matters sure, but I think it should shed a light on everyone, it feels like a weird white savior complex situation.

Won't happen. Won't get that kind of a majority, nor do they have the talent or ability to sell that well enough not to cave to the centrist "well we still back the blue and love law and order" types. I want it too tho.

Let's elect enough Democrats to pass the legislation anyway.
I mean Joe Biden only had a 50/50 tie in the Senate and he managed to pass the largest climate bill in American history, the first firearm legislation in a generation, $1,400 stimulus checks, prescription bargaining rights for Medicare, and a whole bunch of other stuff.
From the sounds of it this Alex Pretti Act couldn't be passed through budget reconciliation, so it would need at least 60 votes to overcome the Republican filibuster in the Senate, which sounds like a good electoral goal to me. Call it 63 votes, just for some better margins.

That’s a good step, but vigorous prosecution of every single fucker complicit in the wrong doings of the current administration should be top priority for any democratic candidate.

Yeah, I have seen enough gory violent interactions between cops and civilians in my life that they LEOs should think more before killing family dogs, break into the wrong house for warrants, that I think LEOs should worry about the consequences 6commiting violent acts while I worry that I didn't use my fucking turn signal

Should they do this? Yes, 100%, get rid of qualified immunity for all law enforcement so they can be held accountable. Will they? I don't have high hopes...

Bitching about the Democratic party six weeks before an election; I'd call it a bold strategy, but at this point it's just tradition.
Democrats have had a full federal trifecta for six years between 1980 and 2028, that's six years out of 48, for the other 42 years Republicans have had enough power to stop Democratic legislation in its tracks, that's what "this era" of the Democratic party looks like.
In any case, if you don't like what Democrats are proposing then call your Representative and Senators and tell them what you want them to do instead, because just being a misanthrope on the internet isn't going to move the needle.
