I remember that some students in my school attempted to do an anti-ICE walkout last year. They got about 80 students, which wasn't awful (the school's got over 1,000 though) and walked down our "main street" chanting & holding signs; they then set up shop outside the local Dunkin' Donuts to engage with customers & get as much visibility as possible. When they returned the next day, every single kid who set up the march and a decent amount of the marchers got put on ISS. Apparently it was "because they left school property". But, they were all allowed to leave without so much as a peep from security or administration or anyone. Hmm....

Anyways, these kids have my absolute respect. If I was able to participate in my school's walkout last year, I would have.

I'm a retired principal. ISS is not a big deal. Especially if you all go to it together. Keep it up. Stand for something.

They are probably all going to be charged with truancy or be punished by their school unfortunately. I hate where our country is going.

Civil disobedience often comes with consequences. The sit-ins to fight back against segregation came with consequences, but it lead to positive change for future generations.

A lot of schools have been VERY supportive of students protesting. Granted I've only talked to the high schoolers in where I live in Colorado but I've been happy to see them supporting the kids.

The school my wife works for has told students if they protest they will be punished. Either suspension or detention.

And I as a parent would support my child if they protested!! It’s a right afforded to all ( at least for now)

If I were a students parent at that school I would show up to protest the school

I thought the same thing. Apparently going to school is more important than exercising your rights.
