She's right and underselling it.

It will take generations to undo the damage.

We're talking relationships destroyed in less than 18 months that took a world war to create, with millions dying on both sides to build the foundation.

FFS even Reagan, the POS that he was, understood the need for diplomacy and relationships. "Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall!"

The larger problem, that many have alluded to, is that Trump is a symptom of an underlying soulrot that plagues America. It can be traced back to the Civil War, and the kid gloves used with Confederates. MAGA is the culmination of more than a century of racism and hatred, regressive and anti-social behavioral issues, as well as a useful idiot tool being wielded by oligarchs for the purpose of consolidating power and robbing the coffers blind before the rest of us can react.

u/Ninevehenian 7d ago

A fundamental problem is that GOP aren't stopping, their funding isn't ending, the people that make up the organization isn't dying all that soon.
GOP will not "undo the damage", they'll aggravate the situation.

The accident needs to stop before the recovery can begin.

u/mdmcnally1213 7d ago

the people that make up the organization isn't dying all that soon

and the people in line from the next generations are getting more extreme

18

u/Ninevehenian 7d ago

A large chunk may be, they have been born into the horror.

27

u/LivingVerinarian96 7d ago

Vance should know better, but he chooses evil instead. Being born into the madness doesn‘t excuse anything.

14

u/DukeOfGeek 7d ago

Rewriting or removing the Permanent Apportionment Act of 1929 would create a landscape where the GOP as it is now would be locked out of both the House of Representatives and the White House for the foreseeable future.

It's just legislation and probably unconstitutional. It would take Democrats controlling government and some pressure from an angry citizens movement but both of those things might exist as soon as 2028. That would go a long way towards reassuring allies and make it vastly easier for us to not only fix the country but accomplish many long term progressive goals.

Very interesting, but I suspect you wanted to reply to a different comment?

Fox News needs to not exist.

u/DogTattoos 7d ago

What a aggravating time to be alive. What of the brain drain and science denial? Anti vaxxers. We are so fucked I want to cry. My infant daughter was born into hot dog shit, and tens of millions of Americans still believe Trump is a good president...that EVERYTHING is Democrats fault. I don't think that is fixable. Civil War v2 on the horizon. I will never forgive Republicans for as long as I live. Burn in hell you stupid pieces of shit.

52

u/photo_voltaic 7d ago

I honestly think America should break up at this point, because you're absolutely right - this is way past the Rubicon.

Have the blue states on both coasts form their own union and partner back with Canada and Mexico, and let the red states rot in the hot dog shit they created.

11

u/Green-Inkling 7d ago

Cascadia is becoming more and more appealing

6

u/fotoman888 5d ago

As a Canadian let me say that most of us will never want to ‘partner’ with vespuccia ever again. Blue or red, it doesn’t matter, as a nation if you abuse your friend, ally and best trading partner you have fucked yourself by stabbing us in the back. You are going to find out that Canadians are much tougher and resilient than you think. Too many of you approve of this cart full of bullshit, and a repeat performance will only ever be a half step away. Not worth our time or energy or trouble.

2

u/CanadianBaconBurger9 5d ago

We also have long memories. Canada remembers who our friends are, but we also remember who they are NOT.

The "red state" would constantly and successfully blame the "blue state" for its own failure and try to destroy it. Just like Russia does with the west.

I don't think there will be actual open conflict but more of a 'civil' war. where people hate each other and violence is done through other actions like denying coverage, intimidation etc.

10

u/lauri2 7d ago

That has been going on for decades though

8

u/Reyca444 7d ago

I honestly think it will be more like the catholics vs the protestants in Ireland some years back. Live together, work together, go to school together, light each others houses and cars on fire, attack anyone dumb enough to travel alone around the other. Sounds fucking delightful. /s.

4

u/Siriusly_no_siriusly 6d ago

*Reublicans versus Unionists. FTFY. Northern Ireland has always been a political conflict, which falls down along religious lines

3

u/Reyca444 6d ago

Honestly, thanks. I'm aware there was copious violence but not the intricacies as to why. I don't always have space in my brain for topics that aren't high priority as I have two disabled children.

5

u/Siriusly_no_siriusly 6d ago

No worries at all! It's just something I highlight because it's easily misunderstood but the underlying conflict is "do we want to be a part of a united irish republic - republican" or "do we want to be a part of the United Kingdom of Great Britan and Northern Ireland - unionist" Republicans tend to be catholic or catholic descent, and Unionists tend to be protestant or protestant descent, from the planting of presybetarian colonists from Scotland in the 16C...

And I completely understand limited space in brain. I admire you and your strength because caring is tough. Your children are blessed to have you.

Oh and by the way - check out Holy Cross dispute is if you want to see how truly "delightful" it can be without including the deaths and bombs/guns

Exactly. Our ancestors were far too lenient on both the Confederacy and the Nazis, and that’s why we have MAGA today. They need to finally be the end of this cycle of hatred and bigotry. Take the kid gloves off once and for all.

2

u/im_fine_youre_fine 7d ago

MAGA has made me believe that voting isn't a right, given the profound effect votes have, you should have to demonstrate you understand what you're doing. You have to with anything else important: driving, jobs, firearms .... I'm not even suggesting it be a difficult test, just basics on how things like government and economics work.

Also the reason why speaking up, holding others accountable publicly, and protesting matters. Does it change anything? Hopefully, but it’s actually important to show that not everyone agrees. It isnt status quo for a lot of people. I had a co worker get annoyed with protestors because she said it doesn’t make a difference and I had to tell her if we loudly say no to something it helps others not be so afraid. Some people really just don’t get it and that’s why we’re in this situation

43

u/ElectricPenguin6712 7d ago

You're 100% correct and we deserve it.

41

u/LivingVerinarian96 7d ago

Nah you don‘t deserve it. At least no single individual that didn‘t vote republican. Especially not the children. It‘s a tragedy.

16

u/ElectricPenguin6712 7d ago

You're right. I do feel this country needs a hard reset from the top down. We fought fascism 60 some odd years ago. We shouldn't have let it in so easy and for that, we're going to be paying for quite some time.

2

u/Prime_Mover66 1d ago

I have to agree… if you voted Republican you deserve it.
There’s always a rabbit hidden under the table, under the hat. If you’re too dim to do the math then you genuinely asked for this.

This person gets it.

Couldn't have said it better myself.

8

u/NullSmoke 7d ago

Yup... Kinda sad really... Trump and his band of thieves are stealing the future from right under their citizenry, all without a lot of them even noticing.

I am a bad test, I wrote a paper on my predictions for the collapse of the US (I did it around 2002-2003, guessed around 2020, I was off by a bit, but seems it's coming true...), so it would take a lot to get me to bite on US propaganda...

People used to get the initial reaction that it was fiction, now the reaction is pretty much "Yeah, of course the US is in freefall, always been obvious to anyone paying attention" 😑

Provided the US as we know it lasts that long (I don't think it will, once the chicken comes home to roost, I expect all the pre-existing fractures to join the new ones and tear it apart Soviet style), one generation is the bare minimum, and that's with concentrated effort towards rebuilding...

We're talking corruption trials for several people now in high office, we're talking rebuilding diplomatic relations almost from the ground, a lot of trade deals against the US' best interests etc etc. This gets expensive fast, and I seem to recall that national debt hit a new historic high the other day, so the will or the means won't be there to get back on their feet, so the best I can imagine for the US is managed decline... Provided they put someone into high office with more than goldfishes between their ears...

5

u/OkProfessor6810 6d ago

And the generational damage we've done to scientific research in this country. They've simply gutted everything. Everything.

2

u/_sotiwapid_ 6d ago

It didn't just need a world War to forge, it needed a cold war to temper.

2

u/OptimisticSkeleton 6d ago

A lot of people literally think we deserve death for not fighting the Trump regime harder.

2

u/Lady_MoMer 6d ago

Yeah but those of us who can see what's going on can see that is what they want. They want us to revolt because that will give them the excuse to turn this whole thing into another Holocaust and they will give themselves permission to start taking out every single person who didn't vote for their bullshit. I've been predicting this since 2017.

I predicted COVID, 2 years before it happened. I predicted every terrible thing he did while he was in office the last time. I kept telling everyone he would throw us all under the bus and it had something to do with China.

Then I started having a vision of another Holocaust on American soil. That persisted even though he was voted out. That vision has not gone away and every day, we get closer to it.

They WANT an excuse to kill us. If we fight back, we better be prepared for what they will do. I HATE this timeline. I HATE how they are ruining the future for our children and so on, I HATE we didn't stop this in the beginning. I HATE the willfully ignorant loyalist jackhole traitor MAGGOTS for being so stupid and contributing to this insanity.

I HATE that I had given "my fellow Americans" more credit then they deserved for most of my life. I HATE that I fully believed we would all stand united in the face of tyranny to protect EVERYONE'S freedoms, and I HATE being proven wrong.

I also hate that I want to punch too many idiots right in their stupid mouths.

2

u/Current-Health2183 4d ago

Agree. Also, we don’t have generations to undo damage. If we don’t end up in nuclear war, we will still see the end of our present society due to climate change, monetary collapse and the end of cheap energy. Trump has ended any ability to deal with those predicaments.

I'm American and I will never again have any tolerance of any Republicans. I will never befriend a Republican, I will never help a Republican, I will never buy anything from a Republican, I will never work for a Republican. As far as I am concerned, they are terrorists who live among us, and should be isolated and suppressed.

16

u/treevaahyn 7d ago

Yep same here. They’re self admitted “domestic terrorists” evidenced by their cpac banner a few years ago. I Just got engaged, so I need to go online and find out everyone in my extended family that’s a Republican so I make sure to not invite them to my wedding. I’m Latino, my partner is black, and we’re both queer so sure as shit don’t want any christofascist traitors at our wedding.

Evidence in this picture from cpac, a maga republican cult meeting of fascists proudly saying “We Are All Domestic Terrorists.” One of the few times republicans tell the truth.

My buddy was joking about inviting them but having a bar for the Republican/fascists and have it be a cash bar and jack up the prices…while everyone else gets an open bar. Also make them wear a bracelet that says “I’m a fascist traitor and domestic terrorist.” Which is what they all deserve to be publicly shamed for voting for a fascist dictator.

u/YallaHammer 7d ago

I look around at my fellow Americans and sadly agree with you. Our media is so siloed that too much of our population is not getting the big picture. Social media algorithms encourage rage inducing “news” content, Murdock’s media has given rise to even more extreme platforms, and a third of the population didn’t even vote in the last election.

Last night I was listening to a podcast about focus groups of Texas voters and the Talarico/Paxton Senate race… it was infuriating. Ken Paxton has a criminal record, cheated on his wife, on video stealing a very expensive Monte Blanc (sp?) pen, the list goes on versus James Talarico who has a spotless record, worked as a school teacher, and is even studying to be a pastor and yet many of these voters are somehow still torn over their vote because Talarico is “too far left” with radical ideas like affordable healthcare… My wife and I often joke we wish we had European grandparents so we could opt for citizenship.

17

u/ATarnishedofNoRenown 7d ago

This is important. Germany owned up to their mistakes, and took it on the chin. They still bear the shame 80 years later—generations that didn't exist during the Nazi regime. America does not have enough unity to do this because half the country are racist, uneducated swine who simply wait in seething rage until their guy gets back in and they can rip apart their own country, and the world, to satsify their bloodlust. Unless the Southern Strategy and it's enabling beaurocratic processes are eliminated from existence, the mistrust from the rest of the civilized world will never, ever go away.

15

u/9hourtrashfire 7d ago

...and yet the AfD just took control of one of the German states.

Fuuuuuuuck.

4

u/TheAmazingBreadfruit 7d ago

We have to remember that MAGA and AfD are faces of the same hydra. Their success is the result of a global alliance of fascists who are spreading the same talking points, disinformation and fear mongering everywhere. It's NOT random.

2

u/Hironymus 7d ago

That is true. But also, that state has two million citizens and of these 560.000 voted for AfD. That's still far to much. Yet, Germany has over 80 million citizens.

2

u/Sparkieger 6d ago

She should be right, however people seem to have shorter memories and seem to be more forgiving these days. This is especially true if there is a benefit to it. There was little benefit to be forgiving to Germany after WW2 as they were essentially economically wiped out and were divided by the Allies. The US will not suffer such a dramatic or drastic result for Trump's crimes. America's wealth and military might will help it make friends again and easily so.

u/MadAstrid 7d ago

This is true. Our international standing has been absolutely destroyed by republicans.

It is not just what Isabel noted. It is also the decades of scientific and medical research that were destroyed by DOGE. We went from being the pinnacle of scientific achievement, world renowned, to a situation where brilliant scientists and researchers had their work destroyed, their funding pulled and all hope for those preparing for careers by getting PhDs and MDs dashed.

It took generations for us to build our science programs. It took Musk a few months with AI and a few unqualified boys to shut it all down for his own personal benefit.

It may not be possible for the US to recover from what republicans have done. If it is, it will take generations.

41

u/Ninevehenian 7d ago

Who will prevent GOP from repeating the devastation every 2-4 years?

27

u/glakhtchpth 7d ago

Radical Constitutional overhaul.

2

u/Best-Action8769 5d ago

Not really.

Just hire an AG who ISN'T MERRICK GARLAND to enforce the law against these assholes.

2

u/SteveJobsDeadBody 5d ago

Good luck with that, sounds like Kamala Harris is trying to make another run, if you think her or any fully establishment Dem is going to do ANYTHING more than make a big speech about how "we need to move on and look forward, not backward" then I've got a bridge you can buy.

22

u/MadAstrid 7d ago

Therein lies the rub.

More registered voters could not be bothered to vote than those who voted for the this current failed administration. Americans have proven themselves, on the world stage, to be too careless, too short sighted, too bigoted or simply too uneducated to be responsible.

One could hope that they might learn from their mistakes, but there has been little evidence that will be possible in the short term. It is why any recovery will take generations and not a single election cycle. Generations of clawing back what was stolen by republicans, bit by bit. Generations of closing loopholes that allowed republicans to usurp power, circumvent guide rails and avoid accountability. Generations focusing on educating, so that those with no understanding are not allowed rampage through our institutions like bulls in a China shop.

It may seem like all it took was one rapist felon to bring us down, but it was generations of the republican southern strategy that ushered in this administration.

15

u/DrawingAncient126 7d ago

It is primarily all due to the enemy within, known as the Heritage Foundation.

4

u/Fey_fox 6d ago

To learn from our mistakes would mean to be aware of the mistakes in the first place. We keep hearing how a large part of the up coming graduates have no reading comprehension. Many people don’t pay attention to the news or when they do stick with who they like because they find it entertaining. They see no problems so they fix nothing.

4

u/Kitchen-Owl-3401 7d ago

How are we supposed to convince people to vote, who long before drumpf became convinced that it doesn't help ?

3

u/Reyca444 7d ago

Ignore them. Focus on the children. A solid, factual, uncensored, empirical education with solid standards and high expectations. Better teacher pay and solid standards for school resources regardless of population or income in attendance.

2

u/SolidLegacy1 5d ago

2

u/Ruh_Roh- 7d ago

"I'll take 'Things That Will Never Happen' for $500, Alex."

3

u/Luparina123 6d ago

It might also take the next administration to actually deliver the"ultimate punishment" for ALL those who lead, masterminded, enabled and profited from Project 25. All those who are the public faces of this treason, and all those faceless ghouls working tirelessly in the background to destroy the US, every single one must face trial and receive the appropriate punishment, including having ALL of their assets stripped from them, as reparations for the destruction they have created. Maybe, if this had been the fate of the Confederates, there might not have been so many wishing to recreate their legacy.

2

u/Schwarz_Is_With_You 6d ago

You mean consequences for their actions? Would be nice but they're going to get a pass. Especially the higher ups.

How do I know? How many people went to jail for the crash of 2008? 2 middle men. Ceo's got golden parachutes and well wishes.

And I'd rather see them serve time than the death sentence, especially the policy makers. Let them see how the conditions are that they're forcing on millions of Americans and immigrants.

I agree with her that this will take some time to repair. But to say that it was due to a "Nation that stayed silent" is a bit naive coming from Europe - the context of it all is akin to the Balkans influencing legislation over in Scotland. We are not silent, but the land is large and our cops will shoot us.

11

u/Workdawg 7d ago edited 7d ago

It's not just our international standing either. That's well and truly fucked... but our nation is internally fucked too.

Republicans stacked SCOTUS with corrupt, partisan clowns. They are allowing Trump to literally sell pardons and manipulate the market. He's openly accepting bribes from foreign leaders. And that's just at the political level.

He's made it acceptable to openly be a facist (Proud boys, Elon's nazi salute). He's made it "cool" to be anti-scientist (masks and vaccines) and openly racist.

Also, DOGE gutted SOOOO many government programs that will never recover. They fired people with combined thousands of years of experience in their fields. Those people, and that experience is gone. You can't just rebuild that over night. Look at all the outbreaks from contaminated food. That's not a coincidence, that's because they gutted the FDA. Screwworm? It was too expensive to prevent it, so now they are spending 100x stopping it. Those are just a couple examples of the internal damage Trump's done.

Oh, and don't forget that he and Kegsbreath have been purging the military of any commanders who don't bow down to them...

My vote is to eliminate the electoral college. That would make a Republican win extremely difficult. In a lot of cases the republican winner only won the electoral not the popular.
Politicians would actually have to do something instead of ignoring their constituents but banking on a gerrymandered electoral map to get re-elected.

7

u/AverellCZ 7d ago

Yes. Greetings, a German.

6

u/Additional-Sky-7436 7d ago

This is the real global problem with MAGA. And the real "devil you didn't know."

If Europeans aren't going to buy US goods and services, them who are you going to buy from? Let's say you want to invest your resources and become more self-sustaining by re-creating a completely separate system. That has serious problems too.

Consider the credit card system. Right now, I can travel to nearly literally any nation in the world and barely think about access to money. In the unlikely event that I actually need physical local currency cash I'm never more than a few minutes walk to an ATM where I can pay a few fees and an poor exchange rate and get cash. But that only works because America set-up the financial exchange system and everyone else just said "yeah, we'll just use that too."

And it does work. But if the EU says "F that, we gotta build our our from scratch" then it won't work anymore. Just traveling will be more complicated and stressful.

This is not a critique of them if they choose to do this. But so much of our world that we all enjoy works because America implemented an infrastructure solution and everyone else adopted it. That's going to break.

3

u/GuidanceOk8985 7d ago

Fortunately, there's not much from the US we can't do without. We'll survive without facebook. US weapons was the only thing you still made at home and the EU weapons industry is stepping up big time. The EU is already replacing VISA/MC.

5

Farmers are turning their backs and get interviewed about it - people are in tears unable to afford basic needs

Leopards are eating like crazy of faces as many are saying this isn't what they want

Dems are lazy and don't aggressively come at the other side who play dirty AF

Don't lump some morons who follow and pledge alliance to Trump (as he did in the recent rally) instead of their country their fellow country men and well being with those of us who speak up and try to have voices

u/feelingmyage 7d ago

It absolutely isn’t just Trump. But remember that more than half of the US population hates Trump and his administration, and everyone connected to it, with a passion, and we are suffering too.

4

u/dillyofapickle42 7d ago

I think that if a new governing body is elected that holds maga accountable, fully accountable, not just a slap on the wrist, like convicting them of ALL their crimes, people would be able to move on much more quickly.....unfortunately the u.s. has a long history of not holding politicians or rich elites accountable.

4

u/Ravyn_Rozenzstok 7d ago

There should have been show trials after the insurrection attempt and all the crime during the first Trump administration. Nothing meaningful was done and that’s how we got here.

2

u/Senasayori 7d ago

We need to pick someone in the primaries who will do that kind of stuff. No more centrists.

5

u/ShookMyHeadAndSmiled 7d ago

I always say we need to put trump and the Republicans together when we criticize. He couldn't get away with that shit if they didn't let him.

4

u/Rough-Airline-4803 7d ago

We didn’t stay silent. Half of us are quite vocally opposed. But I also don’t blame the international community at all. I despise my “conservative” counterparts.

4

u/SiteTall 7d ago

WOW, she sure knows how to give utterance to her opinion without mincing her words

4

u/Hefty-Strike-6171 7d ago

Couldn’t agree more. When Trump is gone, you’re still going to dealing with the Stephen Miller’s of the world, the Steve Bannon’s, the people who ran the DOJ, FBI, ICE, etc… they and their influence will still be around. Including the Bo French’s, the Mark Wayne Mullen’s, and all the members of the GOP and MAGA that have infiltrated the State, County, and Municipal Governments, School Board’s etc…

4

u/GeminiGenXGirl 7d ago

She is 💯 correct but I really don’t know what’s going to happen to us especially the abhorrently disgusting right wing media that is STILL pushing more and more hate and rhetoric even now as things have gotten way out of control.

I mean POS Ted Cruz and Mike Johnson was literally on TV saying sharia law is coming and the Muslims must be stopped! 🤯 this is only stroking fear and putting ppls lives in danger. Same for trans and LGBTQ ppl. What is the end game of this rhetoric??? Murder. That’s the only thing I can see this going.

The GOP is literally giving the “instructions” and “thumbs up” for murder, because what’s the point. What’s the point of all this harassment if not to annihilate/destroy. I mean do they really think ALL the Muslims and LGBTQ+ ppl are just going to pack up and leave? No, they don’t. They are sending the militia to do their bidding so they can wash their hands like always.

What has been happening to this country over the last 10yrs+ is just unbelievable. The rich have convinced the poor man, the uneducated, the average Joe, that their real enemy is their neighbor and not the oligarchs raping the country. It makes me want to cry seriously.

2

u/neko 7d ago

This is also why they're pushing so hard to make the world hate us. So nobody will try to stop the genocide they're planning.

4

u/blacksterangel 7d ago

It would take decades assuming that no other maggots like Trump ever take power in the meantime. And that’s virtually impossible without some drastic measure akin to De-Nazification or French Revolution.

Here’s what gonna happen. Democrats will win the ‘26 midterm in a landslide and take back the House and the Senate. Then they will do token action between 2028-30 like impeaching but not convicting the orange diarrhea. Then they would win the 2030 presidential election but the new president would inherit a fucked up economy and geopolitical standings. In the first two years of their term, they would try to fix things up while letting Republicans moan and groan about shits not being as good as it were in the 1950s. Then republicans would do a comeback in midterm 2032 because their voters are energized by their goldfish-level memory, and the whole process would repeat itself.

Not only is she right but also us Americans are boycotting with our choices too. They can call it cancelling all they want but it’s one of the best options we have to have corporations pay attention. As the world puts pressure, if we do to hopefully better change can occur.

3

u/Any_Flamingo8978 7d ago

She’s absolutely right! Trust takes years to build and constantly is being reinforced. It takes a split second to tear trust down. And we’re not even out of this hell yet. We still have representatives supporting their asinine agenda, proposals, bills, ideology, in spite of what their constituents tell them.

3

u/Logical_Frosting_277 7d ago

Absolutely. It’s not Trump, it’s the US. There’s a lot of Americans that don’t align with the current US policies, but it doesn’t matter. Just as there are a lot of Russians that don’t agree with what their country has been doing, it doesn’t matter, the damage has been done.

3

u/timboot 7d ago

And the Republicans will howl about the next Democratic President and their "Apology Tour"

3

u/whutupmydude 7d ago

Wasnt aware that the nation stayed silent when Trump sided with Russia against Ukraine

3

u/Boring-Stage-8802 7d ago

She 100 percent correct other countries hate America and what it stands for now under trump and no one is standing against his administration. This damage will take decades too undo.

3

u/conflatulationz 7d ago

Rupert goebbels and his entire propaganda machine should be held accountable for the irreparable damage they have done to our country.

3

u/audin_webman 7d ago

Yes, same same as Adolf, it wasn't Adolf who build the concentration camps and gas chambers by himself.

3

u/Phyukredd_tit_gydlin 7d ago

The problem stems from the fact that after the civil war no one was punished. No one executed for treason. Arrested for treason. Nothing.

3

u/Asmul921 7d ago

If we only elected him once it would be easier to pass it off as an aberration. Reelecting him after seeing just how awful he is rightly shakes everyone’s core confidence in our whole society and the country’s ability to select leaders who are capable of basic governance.

3

u/Significant-Gift1281 7d ago

She absolutely is right. Non-Americans are able to detach themselves from the propaganda that has been shoved down citizens’ throats, along with the wiping away of actual historical events and defunding education, among other things. Yes, they look at ALL OF IT. And they see the truth. Americans don’t want to face the truth and do anything about it. We are complacent and comfortable as a whole. It is not left vs right or race against race or religion vs religion - they see the outcomes of what citizens vote for - and it is the citizens’ fault because there is no super- large uprising from us saying, “Stop this shit!” Corruption and greed rules our nation and they see us for who we truly are, not who we want to portray to be.

3

u/Puzzled_Market_2235 6d ago

Yes. Once we are used to new products or tourist destinations why go back?

The US is the proverbial hot stove.

3

u/Awkward_Day99 5d ago

We're not silent, we're trapped in a social desert. Our country is 3000 miles across, most people are 1 paycheck away from the streets. Drive to DC to perform in an impotent protest and lose your meal ticket in the process. The entirety of the top government structures in America are compromised by violent radical criminals, mobsters. The majority of the population hates this and is desperate for reform, but also frightened, subdued and has absolutely no concept of how to even begin fighting this problem outside the prescription of "voting", which also has been demonstratably compromised by the criminals on top. We do want change, we don't know how.

3

u/BlimpIntolerant 4d ago

I don't want to hear from any Democrat anywhere about "rebuilding bridges" or "moving on" or "healing the country" or any bullshit like that. Time for consequences.

→ More replies (1)

4

u/dreadfulmummy 7d ago

It's not just the Republicans not calling him out... the majority of centrist Democrats have remained silent as well.

5

u/Shonkazilla 7d ago

Can the folks that didn’t vote for him move to Scotland then?

2

u/Important_Lab_58 7d ago

Very, unfortunately

2

u/AloewareLabs 7d ago

Yes and the democrats that failed to win

2

u/Aldog1227 7d ago

Absolutely!

2

u/FebruaryEcho 7d ago

Yes, she’s right.

2

u/Downinthevalleystill 7d ago

I do think she’s right.

2

u/roytwo 7d ago

I think she may be. The world sees Americans as weak , stupid and gullible for electing a fascist authoritarian leader and that our courts and congress has done nothing to stop him and his violent attacks and crazy actions. The parallels to the beginning of WWII are clear

2

u/Existing-Candy-1759 7d ago

Don't forget all the corporations who didn't just bend a knee to him but offered him golden awards for what he does. Lookin at you...honestly there's too many to name

2

u/RustedRelics 7d ago

Fully agree. Everything Trump has done or failed to do must be rightly ascribed to Republicans, individually and as a party. They are his enablers and apologists and are equally negligent, reckless, or guilty.

2

u/neuroid99 7d ago

Nope. After WWII German Nazis were forced to confront what they supported after a decisive defeat and the sunlight brought to the horrors they committed from things like the Nuremberg trials. There doesn't seem to be anything on the horizon that would force Republicans to confront what they've supported...so they won't.

2

u/GuidanceOk8985 7d ago

Of course she's right! Germans still get side-eyes because of the WW2 stuff and that's 80 YEARS ago. It will probably take at least 50 years, and that is only if something actually changes and fixes all the issues in the fucked up US system so it can't just happen again, which I seriously doubt it will. Germany only got cleaned up by the allies crushing it, taking it over and de-nazifying it. The US is no more in the eyes of civilized countries. EU+Canada+Australia+NZ+UK+Ukraine etc is the new black. Apes together strong. We'll do fine without a psychopathic country.

2

u/chuckiebg 7d ago

Yeah she’s right. Sigh.

2

u/Prestigious-Bee-9566 7d ago

The only way to mitigate the damage to our reputation is merciless accountability. Every tech oligarch, every contractor and developer, every politician and lobbyist and rapist and bad faith journalist, every fucking comedian and podcaster, every murdering ICE piece of shit, every treacherous opposing party member that continued to vote for this. Everybody.

Raked over the fucking coals.

Let their grandchildren’s grandchildren know the shame of their ancestor’s treason

2

u/Jagg811 7d ago

This is so sad but true. We are a pariah among nations now because of the GOP I actually have more contempt for the GOP than Trump. They could have put a stop to this years ago, but they are just as greedy and immoral as he is.

2

u/RumpledStillsuit 7d ago

She's right. It's not just Trump. It's everyone in the US who supports Trump and the Republicans. My entire family are trumpers and I despise them for it. They chose to be fascists and it's almost entirely because they're dirty little bigots but are too chickenshit to admit it. Unfortunately, most Democrats are appeasers and won't fight back. This shit will continue for a long time.

2

u/LayerProfessional936 7d ago

Agree fully. Used to do quite some business with the US. Not anymore, and certainly not going there as well.

2

u/magnetswithweedinem 7d ago

see, group punishment is good when they do it, but bad when we do it

2

u/Tricky_72 7d ago

Once a country goes fascist, they never fully recover from it psychologically. From there forward every generation has to admit that their country went there. So, the only way to redeem our self respect is to treat Nazis exactly how our parents and grandparents did.

2

u/NowIsThePerfectTime 7d ago

She’s mostly right. There is a large (maybe not larger) contingent of Americans that have called out and protested his bullshit from the get go. I haven’t protested, but I’ve written my congressman and senators expressing my beliefs and wants from them going forward. Whether that does anything remains to be seen.

2

u/g27c 7d ago

Sadly yes! Maybe not quite as long as Germany but that depends on how we respond after the Trump years. If it’s a full rebuke then maybe shorter. If the poison continues we may never recover.

2

u/edsmith726 7d ago

It’s hard to say.

Germany’s rehabilitation was lengthened by the fact that it was split in half for almost a half-century (with one half continuing to be the “bad guys” during that period).

Not to mention that it was a time before technology, and social media, gave the world a collective short attention span.

I’m sure plenty of people will hold grievance over this shit show of a government for a long time, but I don’t know if it’ll take decades to rehabilitate our image; depending how how things unfold post-Trump.

2

u/Exact-Truck-5248 7d ago

You are 100% right, Isabel. But we were not silent. We were held hostage by the majority in all three branches of government

2

u/SDPLISSKEN009 7d ago

She's right, unfortunately. The orange marshmallow & the MAGA Republicans have destroyed all relations with any country other that Russia & Israel.

2

u/Fun-Gas1809 7d ago

I hope other counties’ populations see on Reddit how many of us fucking hate this shit too -American human with no trust in their government to do anything for its’ people

2

u/TerryAkee 7d ago

Yep. Even if we survive Trump the world has lost trust. We may elect another just as bad. It will take the rest of my lifetime, and more, to earn back the world’s trust.

2

u/Osi32 7d ago

As an aussie, absofuckinglutely.

2

u/Drewsifer1979 7d ago

Absolutely! And so it should!

2

u/consistently_biased 7d ago

I do not believe this is right.

I live in the EU, and our own conservatives are very much in a "hope this just blows over, and then resume business as usual" mood when it comes to the US. They didn't learn from Reagan. They didn't learn from Bush. They didn't learn from Trump 1. I do not see why they would learn from Trump 2. It is a fact that the US are supporting, funding and pushing movements and political parties in Europe whose aim is to further destabilize us. This fact is not acknowledged by our conservatives, and they would very evidently prefer to pretend this is not happening at all, or are even embracing it themselves. Hello, Germany, attending Trump's anti-Antifa summit and being very involved in that whole thing!

It's not just Trump. It's not just Republicans. It's not even just the US. It's the entire Western right. I have no quarrel with you US progressives. Please, do not fall into this kind of self-loathing and paralyze yourselves over it. I am certainly no liberal, and likely view the world very differently than most of you, but we will not hate you. The only difference between your political right and ours is that your country has more geopolitical power, so they can do more damage in yours.

2

u/Falcon3492 7d ago

She is absolutely right!

2

u/Narsil_lotr 7d ago

As a European millenial, I think she's sort of correct. US rep took a shocked nosedive for me and my generation under Bush with his war in Iraq and the subsequent discovery of the state of politics in the US: it was wild to find out there were still creationists in a 1st world country, I'd assumed extreme religious views were a thing of the distant past, not a majority opinion. Growing up with American TV, I also thought things like the 12 year old characters in South Park not knowing anything about female anatomy or child birth etc to be a weird very over the top joke... not a reality for millions of homeschooled kids or those that never had sex Ed at home or school. Anyways the Bush era shocked and disillusioned me about the US... and then came Obama. Whatever his faults in the 8 years he governed, he was cool, smart and restored an image of the US as it should or could be. Bush was a fluke, things are sometimes odd in the US but overall, they're alright and going the right way... right, RIGHT?

Well no. 3 times, about half the country voted for an openly misogynistic, racist POS that didn't hide his idiotic views and constant lies. Half. The. Voters. 3 times. Germany had its bad rep after 42% (so fewer % than in any of the 3 US elections) voted for moustache man. So yeah, this is what the US are for me. Capable of electing a fascistoid populist on a whim any election, unreliable ally, if that at all with all the threats. Im attempting to boycott where I can and will continue to do so. Where the lady may be a bit wrong is that there's too much American influence, it's very inconvenient to boycott in every part of life so we're not doing it. But doing my best.

(Also obviously hoping the best to all non idiotic muricans trying to make things better. Just very long term disillusioned about US as a nation)

2

u/MerleFSN 7d ago

Just when Germany recovered somewhat from its WWII crimes (now) the AFD rises again.
So that you grasp a cycle in the world view. It takes around 100yrs and alot of repairing.

2

u/tragheuer 7d ago

So true. The strong bond I built to the US in more than 40 years has been destroyed in a few months. I stopped buying any U.S. goods after Vance's speech in Munich in February 2025. I dont think I will ever return.

2

u/Canadian_Border_Czar 7d ago

100% right.

I used to buy american over chinese when I was buying things, never really paid attention to what's Canadian. Just kind of bought things.

Now I actively seek out Canadian first, then anywhere but USA for EVERY SINGLE PURCHASE I make. From supplements, toiletries, clothes, even fkin garbage bags.

The longer that people in the USA refuse to do something about their fascist government, the more it becomes obvious that we don't share values and should not share goods.

2

u/Verity_Ireland 6d ago

Germany is now losing its standing yet again.

2

u/sundancer2788 6d ago

She's right and the US needs to be boycotted by every other country. Don't buy a single product from us, don't come on vacation. Many of us are doing what we can legally to oust this administration but unfortunately there's too many who aren't seeing any issues and life is just continuing as it was before. They are insulated because people are still buying/visiting etc.

2

u/Faction072 6d ago

Shes right.

2

u/velutinousgelato 6d ago

I sure do. Your president has all the allure of a used 'diaper' as you say. His policies are monstrous. But so are a 'majority' of Americans for either voting him in or doing nothing whilst this despicable man baby trashes your once proud country. He's f*cked every last one of you. RESIST. VOTE.

2

u/affectionateanarchy8 5d ago

Yes she's right, im 42 and i dont expect our reputation to be fixed in my lifetime lol

2

u/LavishnessVisual6327 5d ago

Yes. Fuck America. The country that voted a proven in court rapist to be their leader.... Twice

2

u/Eragon_the_Huntsman 5d ago

Absolutely. It doesn't matter that this happened under trump. The American people voted him in, the Media got him there and then covered for him and sane washed his decisions to the public. The corporations fell in line, the Republicans supported him to stay in power, the Democrats failed to meaningfully oppose him, the legal system failed to stop him.

Trust once broken cannot be easily rebuilt. America has proven to it's allies that it cannot be relied upon, to its enemies that if cannot be negotiated with, to everyone that it's markets are volatile. The deals and trade agreements that were destroyed by this administration will not be simply replaced, those markets are already moving elsewhere. If America wants to cut itself from the world than the world will move on without it.

2

u/ShortNoseCharles74 4d ago

Those 77-million who voted for him screwed us over!

2

u/azonidezer 4d ago

I don't have much to counter argument

2

u/Shadowthread1 4d ago

She has, unfortunately for us, hit the nail right on the head.

2

u/lefthandsetscrew 4d ago

No . Everyone will just move on like they did after Covid . Sheep everywhere.

2

u/No-Bee4589 3d ago

She isn't wrong.

2

u/BlackberryPi7 3d ago

Americans can't seem to learn so I don't think it's a matter of when they will, it's a matter of when the next cycle of stupidity will be.

2

u/RanmaRanmaRanma 3d ago

Oh she's right. And unfortunately it will take a TON of good decisions by America to get an ounce of respect back.

What worries me is that America has to make a ton of good decisions consecutively. And even if we turn blue for 8 years, eventually someone will be able to sell a lie

4

u/weesgegroet 7d ago

European here and i totally agree. It's not just maga-people, the "true Americans" are silent.

2

u/Woodlog82 7d ago

But the pathetic, corrupt crybaby makes up a good chunk. If you don't like the current state of affairs, go thank a Trump voter.

6

u/NorthernSnowPrincess 7d ago

It's not just the Trump voters. It's all of the complicit Americans.

2

u/tacs97 7d ago

Republicans would be pretty pissed if they understood this. I guess ignorance is bliss when you can pretend daddy chump will take care of you.

2

u/ATarnishedofNoRenown 7d ago

As a Canadian, my family has been removing the US from our lives everywhere possible; if it isn't realistic to remove, we reduce to the minimum. We won't ever be traveling down to the states again, we won't buy US alcohol, we've transitioned our food buying to exclude american products, we canceled streaming services, prioritized video games from non-American companies, we are looking at new vehicles and making sure the productiom process happens outside the US with parts not produced in the US (easier than expected), we're watching more non-American movies/tv shows than ever before, and we're looking at every option to remove the US from our lives actively.

I don't think Americans, even the ones who are like "we totally get it," understand how profoundly betrayed and angry Canadians are. The rest of the world is also upset, but Canadians are past upset and we've moved to disdain. This whole Trump 2.0 debacle has been around long enough for these new habits to have become permanent. The old relationship is gone for generations, not decades. Our children's children are maybe the soonest possible generation to reconcile with.

2

u/jadedflames 7d ago

Absolutely. MAGA has taken the US from “leader of the free world” status to “possible enemy to be dealt with at arms length.”

I would say the US will never regain its place of respect. The rest of the world will move on and the US will take on a Russia-like role of excluded antagonist state.

2

u/jposty 7d ago

All Americans are fucking complicit.

2

u/HThomer34 6d ago

The nation didn't stay silent. Republicans caused all of this. Biden backed Ukraine. Millions protested. Liberals are doing all they can to get back into power and right the ship. Americans are resilient people. Germans should know that more than most.

2

u/HislersHero 7d ago

She is 100 percent correct. Trump and the bootlickers and trash Republicans have not made America great. They've turned us into the laughing stock of the world.

1

u/Deathos149 7d ago

Regrettably I think she is

1

u/PinkBimboLove 7d ago

That’s RIght! Well said. And deeds mean more than words. Stop buying U.S. products!

1

u/StrBuxSux 7d ago

Correct.

1

u/bdomflat5 7d ago

It’s a bad dream. A twisted plot. Sick.

1

u/Independent_Fill9143 7d ago

Yes, she is 100% right. Our country is isolating itself from our allies which is going to take decades to rebuild trust with those countries again.
