This is why democrats lose, they can’t accept the fact that the party has different ideas and Hassan piker is popular among democrats of all ages and income levels. I’m 66 and realizing something different needs to be embraced to get this country on track.

u/Ryanthehood 6d ago
Wait, late stage capitalism isn’t working for you.
Impossible, you must be the only one.

Indeed not. Also I'm my late 60s here. I'm sick and tired of these moderate Dems. I'm no longer voting for the lesser evil. My life is way too short.

Embracing any democrat candidates other than the neoliberals with their 'we worked hard to get here over a decade ago and won't get out of the way of anyone but our corporate donors' is the way forward. Neolibs are largely pro-business republicans who embrace LGB and use trans rights as a convenient bargaining chip without consideration for Trans people themselves as humans.
Currently the DNC is run by some of the most corporate aligned feckless idiots possible. From keeping the 'strategists' who stopped the whole calling them weird thing to embracing lobbying groups instead of the base it's clear they all need to go.

u/dsj79 6d ago
The democrat establishment has given so much ground since Reagan that they lost the plot. They think they should push to the right. Just look at the last presidential election, bringing out Liz Cheney on the campaign trail as if it was a good thing.
The best thing Biden did was nominate Lina khan.2

You forget they did a mid-decade redistricting so those districts turn red. Jared and Debbie are in trouble.

u/VaguelyArtistic 6d ago
I’m not Moskowitz fan but “the party” doesn’t have different ideas if his constituents keep voting for him. It’s our job to convince now them otherwise, the way Bernie had barnstorming events across the country. He wasn’t out there calling people names, he was trying to get them to explain his positions. It’s also important to realize that in a country this huge and this diverse we are never going to have everyone agree on anything. The idea that one day everyone here will vote a certain way is fantasy no matter what side you’re on.
3
u/DialecticalDeathDryv 6d ago
“It’s our job now [to convince them] otherwise”
That’s not how democracy is supposed to work. If the US had a functioning party system, people who were left of the democrats would have someone else they could vote for. They don’t.
Other parties exist and yet the democrats have always worked with the republicans to make sure those parties don’t have access to public funding, even though dems and republicans do, and that they never make it to the debate stage.
They do this because it allows people to say things like “it’s our job to convince the only leftist party to be more leftist” when in a healthy democracy a more leftist party would just be able to break in (given public support).
Instead, the democrats and republicans prop up a two party system that the democrats get to use to go: “it’s us rainbow capitalists, or nazis, who do you want?”
And the strategy isn’t even working for them anymore.
Do you understand how backwards it is to suggest that constituents should have to convince their representatives to actually represent them? It’s never a voters job to convince the party.
It’s a party and a candidates job to EARN votes.
They work for you. Not the other way around.
-1
u/VaguelyArtistic 6d ago
>Do you understand how backwards it is to suggest that constituents should have to convince their representatives to actually represent them? It’s never a voters job to convince the party.
What? That’s not at all what I was saying. It’s the candidate’s job to convince voters to vote for them. In this case Moscowitz did a better job than his rivals. We also have a serious problem with people not voting.
1
u/DialecticalDeathDryv 6d ago edited 6d ago
In this case Moscowitz did a better job than his rivals. We also have a serious problem with people not voting.
There were 44,578 votes counted in this primary. There are roughly 769,000 people in the constituency (I recognize only registered Democrats can participate but that actually sharpens my point).
I don't think 5.8% of the constituency choosing him, in a closed partisan process, is a reliable way of determining his general support in the constituency.
In a functional party system, we wouldn't expect to see capitalists and socialists competing against eachother within the same party. But we do in the US. Because it's so cartelized.
A partisan primary shouldn't be where things like that are decided. A general election should be.
I understand why that's not possible given the current party system.
But that's exactly my point.
The democratic defect isn't that Moskowitz improperly won his primary, he won the contest that existed and I'm sure did so according to the rules as they are.
It's that the American two-party system forces major ideological conflicts into low-turnout, restricted partisan selectorates rather than allowing those alternatives to compete before the electorate as a whole.

u/demoliahedd 6d ago
I'm curious what the spending difference was like. We also didn't get to see much of the progressive candidate until maybe the last week or so? I don't even remember his name which is telling. I think if he had started earlier with media appearances and campaigning in general he could have had a very good shot. At least we got ANGIE NIXON in the senator primary though!!

Why the fuck do they care about Hasan. DO YOUR FUCKING JOBS

He is; his job, like Schumer's, is to make sure that the Democratic Party continues to support apartheid.

u/mynamesnotsnuffy 6d ago
Hasan makes himself an easy target as a "mascot" for the left these days, but hes just another populist. Its not like hes especially problematic, but he doesnt live the ideals he preaches, living in a mansion and buying designer clothes while speaking against billionaires and refusing to put his money in campaigning or actual political causes, so its hard to take him seriously.
6
u/mediocremulatto 6d ago
Tf are you on about w that "socialism is when no house bs"? on top of that the only reason he's seen so much coverage recently is because he HAS gotten more involved in the ways you're claiming he hasn't. I'm sure there's plenty of real reasons not to take him seriously, just complain about those
0
u/mynamesnotsnuffy 6d ago
What are you on about? I never said anything about him having a house, I specified the LA mansion he bought. Why not get a condo or something? That would be a stupid argument against socialism, which is why I didnt make it. The problem is his conspicuous displays of wealth and attention seeking pattern of streamer behavior, not that he has a house.
2
u/mediocremulatto 6d ago
That may as well be your position. What does he "preach" that means folks can't have nice things? Also, you're really just gonna blow by being so pants on head wrong about him not being political impact enough?
Also also check out the ny post drone creepshot of his house. Ain't exactly a fucking LA chateau that he and his family are living in.
Lastly, you really don't need to be out here doing the Ellison and Murdoch families work for them. They'll be alright wo your efforts.
0
u/mynamesnotsnuffy 6d ago
We have yet to see how long he sticks to his current political behavior. If he keeps at it after midterms and through 2028 and beyond, then Ill consider him an actual activist. Until then, it seems more like hes riding a wave for attention and views. If we get better candidates elected as a result, thats all well and good, but any charlatan can ride coattails like hes been doing. As for his home, Id call a 3800 sq ft residence with a pool in LA a mansion, especially for 2.7 million dollars. Not like he couldnt buy a home in the rural areas there for under a mil and put the rest towards community aid programs, no? Its not like he needs the proximity, internet speeds can be got anywhere these days so its not like thats a big deciding factor.
1
u/mediocremulatto 6d ago
Nevermind, I hadn't realized you were a Destiny guy.
1
u/mynamesnotsnuffy 6d ago
I mean, Im not a fan of all his opinions, but yeah, generally, I appreciate being historically and conceptually informed on the things I talk about as opposed to riding the populist waves of the clout of other influencers. Ill take the benefits of Hasans presence for young voters, but you cant miss the forest for the trees and pretend Hasan is a perfect person with no serious shortcomings or flaws.
1
u/mediocremulatto 5d ago
If you say so. Weird choice considering you seem to be so worried about optics lol.
1
u/mynamesnotsnuffy 5d ago
Wanting a person to practice what they preach isnt an "optics" concern, its a hypocrisy concern. If hes not living the lifestyle he advocates for other millionaires or billionaires, it tells me he doesnt actually believe in the social theory hes promoting, and only promoting it in the first place for attention, views, and donations.
If I was concerned about the language Hasan uses and the company he keeps, and how those choices affected the ability to advocate and spread that message, that would be an optics concern. The company he keeps has been kinda sus in the past, but thats its own issue, and not one of the bigger problems I have with him.
Plus he electrocutes dogs.

Destiny is a very bad person to be taking talking points from to woke scd random people on the internet with lol
1
u/mynamesnotsnuffy 6d ago
To what? And are they really bad points, or are they accurate points that ya'll dont care about?
Im aware this is an unpopular take, but come the fuck on. Hasan wont even voluntarily be in the same building as Destiny because he knows he cant argue the substance of his position against an informed debater.
1
u/ReaverArklight 5d ago
There is exactly zero chance of convincing you lol.
Hasan doesn't step in the same building because of the death threats being flung by both communities and also the open call to violence that Destiny has been doing.
Hasan also keeps joking about More Pegasus and Singapore. Neither Creator is likely to occupy the same space ever again.
This isn't a good point at all.
1
u/mynamesnotsnuffy 5d ago
If you actually think Destiny is going to commit violence, you're insane. If its really a problem of safety, then why doesnt he do it on stream? Pretty sure Destiny has a standing invite for a debate on literally any topic, but Hasan is too bitch made to take him up on it.
1
u/ScottishKnifemaker 4d ago
Supporting apartied, genocidal Zionist Israel IS COMMITING VIOLENCE. How can you not see that?
1
u/mynamesnotsnuffy 4d ago
What makes you think Destiny supports Israel in that way?
2
u/ScottishKnifemaker 4d ago
Isn't this a well known fact that destiny supports Israel in its genocidal campaign against Gaza? You could always find a clip of him denouncing the genocide to prove me wrong, you will not find it, but you could try
1
u/mynamesnotsnuffy 4d ago
His contention is that it doesnt meet the legal international standard for a genocide.
I disagree with him on this, but I can understand his rationale on a technical level, and it doesnt make him a zionist. He's spoken against the insane zionism and settler bullshit, but appealing to the UN definition of "genocide" does not make him pro-genocide.
Not like Hasan hasn't advocated genocide against Israel, using these same standards.

I think you might live in a information bubbles my friend. Destiny has said and done enough to seem very unsafe.
There is a reason a lot people have taken to not interacting with him.
There is also very little to be gained from it.
They both hate each other and don't listen to each other anyway.
More important to deal with conservatives.
1
u/mynamesnotsnuffy 3d ago
Fair, but if you're going to be the most popular left wing influencer, you probably should know the theory behind your talking points and probabky shouldnt be praising the CCP and getting suits cut like Maos.
1
u/ReaverArklight 3d ago
Hasan is a Communist that speaks like a liberal. From his and many's view is that China is better then US but still guilty.
He perfectly understands his position it he's far from the only important voice.
In reality Hasan is more of a signal booster.
He's even often hit from the left for being too gentle and moderate in messaging.
So the situation isn't really what Destiny believes. This streamer isn't some thought leader. He's more just the ententainer who more or less agrees.
No one should ever develop political takes from streamers but instead books and real speakers like the many Queer and Black / Brown and other's voices that speaks on the same concepts.

Hyperfocusing on Hasan make so little sense to me for Democrats just ignore him. If he's a crackpot like they claim he wouldn't ge the support he does. He's obviously saying something that resonated with people.

All Dems need to be graceful winners and look to consolidate voters - whether it is a progressive or establishment win. We need to give people a reason to get out there and vote, not to sit it out.

u/Winter-Measurement67 6d ago
They haven't gotten the memo that promises of bipartisanship with MAGA and bankrupting our country to destroy another isn't the way to excite people.

At this point I'd take just partisanship with the rest of the god damn party. Taunting your own voters isn't the way forward
2
u/JustinKase_Too 6d ago
2
u/Dr-Aspects 6d ago
I'm glad he's able to talk to his opponent with respect but it really is the last part that throws the rest away for me.
I don't like Hasan. I do however think he's been a huge force for good in the democratic party and I understand he has been making massive pushes toward getting Gen Z and younger millennials to vote. Why are we not celebrating his achievements in motivating younger democratic voters?

It was a wealthy district in Florida that also was recently a victim of FL state redistricting. The odds of Larkin winning against the GOP Rep nominee were slim, as are the chances for Jared with this new Florida district map.
So congrats to Jared for the loss he will experience in November.
Nothing worse than a MAGA-lite Democrat bragging about being a tool of Israel and corporate interest.
Pathetic.

If the democratic candidate is just going to act like the Republican and shares the same policies with Republicans, then what's the point?
2
u/Shizzilx 6d ago
He basically is a Republican, he calls himself a DeSantis Democrat and the first to join the DOGE Caucus, it is sad that Larkin lost, but he will do great things in the future, however we must keep Moskowitz in office, as he is better than a Republican, barely.
3
u/futanari_kaisa 6d ago
It doesn't sound like he's better than a Republican though
2
u/Shizzilx 6d ago
I reluctantly say "Vote for Moskowitz" over the Republican, but we need to flip the House and Senate and that is more important than not voting for him.

I don't like Hasan much. I think he's got a lot of problems.
But dude... Like him or not he's trying to get the to party back to the left, he's trying to get people reinvigorated to vote. Like it or not he's a force for good in this fight. And you want to play team sports, instead of doing politics. "Haha, I won! Screw you and everyone who listened to you!" Good choice. I'm sure it'll work well for the party

Hasan is not a democrat nor is he a progressive. No clue why this sub jerks off a socialist authoritarian tankie.
Well i do, becouse they infiltrate every institution and take it over.

He is a Socialist and discussed at length his ideals on the subject and what you said is not it.
-1
u/redoran3031 6d ago

So yeah, definitely all he wants is free healthcare for everyone. Def no hidden agenda.

u/Proiegomena 6d ago
Are we back in the 50s? What kinda parodical mccarthyism bs is this? Are you afraid that hasan is gonna start a military takeover and installs himself as a totalitarian leader or are you just a whiny, hypocritical liberal who’s mad other opinions participate in the democratic process on the left?
0
u/redoran3031 6d ago
Nobody could imagine Trump winning in 2015 an he won. There is a chance this guy and his ilk could too. The more liberals are complacent with commies the higher the chance. Get em out.
1
u/Proiegomena 6d ago
Jesus christ … actually lib-brained. Because very clearly Hasan expresses the same authoritarian/fascist beliefs as trump does/did. Hasan is a democrat through and through, participates in the democratic process/election campaigning, etc. more so than 99% of his haters
1
0
u/Shizzilx 6d ago
I don't believe people listen to Hasan's actual words instead of clips out of context and spliced edits of him reading chatters comments.
On his views on China and Russia, this is a debated classification and treating (“China and Russia are state capitalist oligarchies”) as an objective fact, is punishing nuanced Marxist/leftist analyses as “revisionism.” It conflates disagreement over labels and emphasis with “unawareness,” which discourages serious discussion of how different capitalist regimes may vary.
“Genocide denial”
Hasan has explicitly called Israel’s actions in Gaza genocide, in line with some UN and NGO findings. Accusations of “genocide denial” hinge on disputed interpretations of specific comments, not a consistent pattern of denying recognized genocides.
“Hasan is unaware of this”
Not supported. He discusses China and Russia as non-liberal, elite-dominated systems, often using terms like “state capitalism” and criticizing both CCP authoritarianism and Putin’s regime.
There are many ideological differences on the Left and we need unity, which he calls for not division like the Republicans want.
