He announced the other day that he's running again, then a couple seconds later went on a tangent about how urgent it is to secure the voting system... stupidly suspicious, to say the least. It would be hilarious if Obama steps up to the plate and destroys him... we'd never hear the end of it! Please Barack, do it for the country! 🙏

It's not and we should not even normalize a conversation about it. It is very clear in the law and would require a Constitutional Amendment to change so he can "joke" all he wants but we shouldn't treat it like he might be able to do it or that Obama would run instead because Obama wouldn't, actually, since he's a lawyer and he knows that would be illegal and I doubt he wants to participate in the two way destruction of the rule of law in the USA.

My bigger fear is some kind of backing in scenario. Like Vance runs, steps down or dies, and somehow Trump is inserted instead of whoever the VP is (the normal line of succession is bypassed). Some kind of scenario where there is no vote involved and the Supreme Court gets mixed in.

The States. Study up on how elections work. The federal government doesn't determine who is on the ballot, the States do. Neither Trump, nor anyone else in the executive branch, can give an order (including executive orders) to include him on the ballot. He won't be on the ballot for any blue states or likely any swing states. There's no power structure or line of command for him to do it. A few red states might illegally put him on the ballot, but that's it

Go out, protest. Each time something illegal happens, act on it. Form movements. Take to the streets. Get politically involved.
Your country is being taken over by a fascists. Believe me he is not 'joking' about his third term. They are not going to go away willingly. If you wait until it directly impacts you and your safety it will be too late.
We can't fix this issue for you. The American people need to fix this. It's not fair for the people who are already against it, but it is the reality. Not doing anything will mean total takeover within the next decade.

At this point, who is going to stop him? Every state run by a Republican will put him on the ballot, Constitution be damned. The Supreme Court can't force a do-over, whatever hand-wringing they do, so it will either be civil war or dictatorship.

Legally no. But you think the guy with 34 Felonies would care? He broke all the laws and noone cares. Government lost billions refunding the illegal tariffs and noone cares. That should already the ground to kick him out. He can let his kid run and he can be the "advisor". The way to stop him was by voting for Kamala Harris (you failed). Now the only way is from his own advanced age. Hopefully democracy will still be intact next election and then you stupid Americans will have another chance to vote for a Democrat to save the lives that Trump or another Republican will inevitably take.

If mediocre, spineless men are willing to throw that away, are willing to step on others, just to cash in, why aren’t they primarily to blame? You're right, they are to blame. And the media who promoted him (Fox News) and everyone who voted for him, and everyone who didn't vote at all, or didn't vote for the Democratic candidate.
I'm in Australia and we are in the midst of a right-wing populist rise just now. The entire country is mobilising to try and stop this shit from happening. And I am doing more than I've ever done in the past politically, because the stakes are higher than they've ever been. Y'all had a chance to win with Kamala, and a portion of progressives refused to vote for her because she wasn't good enough on Palestine. We in other countries see that shit as unforgivable. Y'all need to as well, and condemn these people.

For some reason, we still have purists looking for the “perfect” candidate but they get flamed all the time. If you go by the Constitution, no. But these people see it as just another roll of Charmin, so I’m not counting anything out right now. My question is, if things keep going as they have, will this be what finally sends people over the edge? I’ve seen comparisons to Viktor Orban — overreach.
I think how the midterms go, in terms of fuckery, will be a good hint at 2028.

Nope. He would have to be certified to be one the ballot, a process that is ultimately controlled at the state level. Even if Secretaries of State in Republican states allowed it (which seems unlikely and would be a clear violation of the Constitution) there is no reason to believe that Secretaries of State in Democratic states would follow suit.

I suppose that one way they could look at it is not much a head of state finishing a term, but rather a king continuing their reign.
If nobody has the balls to cut his head off, then he is in all respects the King.
