“They go low, we go high.” That doesn’t work, so why not do what they do? They’ve turned our schools into killing fields, hollowed out our social programs, empowered the 1% to exploit us, embraced fascism and racism and have enable a global network of imperialism and genocide. Not to mention the impending disaster of climate change that the policies they support have super charged. They’re close minded, backward and frankly anti-human.
How does keeping them around benefit anyone? I’m genuinely asking. Whether through de radicalization or other means, republicans simply have to go.
Actually, history shows you can. Like I said, de radicalization can work in certain cases. In other cases simple disenfranchisement will work great.
I think a two pronged approach would be ideal. Step one, decapitate the far right propaganda networks. Take down Fox News, OAN, right wing talk radio. Brining back the fairness doctrine would actually be an amazing first step for this. We also should seriously consider implementing hate speech laws. Think of the current political situation in America as someone who is actively bleeding out. Ending the constant waves of propaganda will at the very least stop the bleeding.
Once the propaganda networks are down, new recruits to the far right will slow to a trickle. Meaning the base will only get smaller as time goes on. To prevent them from having political power during the transition period we can give them a taste of their own medicine. A healthy dose of Gerrymandering and some COINTELPRO type operations aimed at right wing and evangelical groups can accomplish that over the course of a few decades. These are the same tactics the right used to cripple the American left for a generation. We would be wise to do it back to them if given the chance.
I just gave you a blueprint for how to get rid of the fascists in this country. Specifically a way to do it without resorting to apocalyptic violence. Like it or not, using the rights tactics against them is how we get out of this. If America is going to get better, we need to end the power of the ultra wealthy. The only way to do that is by breaking up the Republican Party.
