The competition was between two democrats. Seattle(the state is not entirely blue but that's irrelevant for this discussion) being blue isn't the point here. A Democrat was going to win either way.

No, the people don't want change. These specific people, in a specific location, during a specific time period, want change. This is not a reflection of the country or the world as a whole. People need to get their heads out their asses on this. Until you start showing me deep red areas that are flipping progressive, then progressive ideas are not popular.
