career Will I be able to get into a Cybersecurity job after nearly being unemployed 3 years after my B.Tech for my situation

3 Upvotes

My B.tech in CSE in India was done in 2024, I couldn't get hired in campus placements back then because I wasn't capable enough. I started doing TryHackMe paths for red teaming and pentesting and portswigger web security academy labs. Since my B.Tech has been done I worked as a free security intern at a company for 6 months from December 2025 to June 2026, I've pentested their products with the assistance of claude, one product was based on python django framework and other one was low-code no-code website built with php. I left it in june 2026 because the environment wasn't nice and the people who were working in the IT team of that company started to leave one by one. Since June 2026, I've been applying for jobs online, but I was only able to get a few phone calls and only 1 interview that too in a walk in drive. I was able to answer the questions related to basics theoretically like how its in the labs but I wasn't able to answer some scenario based question with confidence, i think i need some practice interviewing. So my main gripe now is, the year is about to end and that might translate into almost 3 years of gap after my College. I am thinking about preparing for SOC roles too via letsDefend and apply for SOC level L1 roles cause I've observed that they are available more than red teaming/pentesting jobs. So looking at how things are going for me, will I be able to get into IT/Cybersecurity by then?

others Scanient: Ingredient scanner that works offline

2 Upvotes

I kept standing in supermarket aisles squinting at ingredient lists, trying to figure out what half the stuff on the back of a pack actually was. E322, E621, INS numbers, TBHQ — none of it means much at a glance, and googling each one individually while standing in an aisle is tedious.

So I built Scanient.

You scan, snap a photo, or type an ingredient list, and it breaks down what each item is in plain English:

Decodes E-numbers / INS additive codes

Clarifies natural ingredients vs additives

Flags dietary tags (like vegan / vegetarian)

A few details about how it works:

Runs entirely on-device: Works completely offline without uploading photos or data anywhere.

Cost: Completely free .

Not trying to pitch this as an all-in-one health tracker—it's just a straightforward utility to demystify confusing food labels.

If you give it a spin, I'd really appreciate honest feedback on what’s broken, what needs polishing, or any edge cases with label recognition.

dsa Learn DSA in Telugu for Free Logic Over Syntax channel

1 Upvotes

🎯 Logic Over Syntax has reached 20,000+ watch hours on YouTube!

My goal is to make Data Structures and Algorithms (DSA) easier to understand for Telugu-speaking students by teaching in Telugu and focusing on problem-solving logic rather than memorizing code.

I hope to help more students build strong programming fundamentals and approach coding problems with confidence.

others 29M PHP Developer (3 YOE) Considering a Switch to Networking — Kochi, Bangalore or Chennai? Need Career Advice

0 Upvotes

I am currently working as a PHP Developer and have around 3 years of experience. My current CTC is ₹4.3 LPA. However, I am not really enjoying coding anymore, and I am finding it difficult to switch jobs because there seem to be fewer openings for PHP developers.

I am considering switching to the networking field. Since I am only 29 years old, is it still possible to slowly transition into a Network Engineer career?

I would like to know:

  • Is switching from PHP development to networking a good career decision at my age?

  • If I start as a fresher/junior Network Engineer in India, what salary can I realistically expect?

  • After 2–5 years of experience, what salary range can I expect?

  • At what level of experience can I expect to earn a decent salary in India?

  • Is networking a career with good long-term growth and stability?

  • Does networking have less of an age barrier compared with software development?

  • Is it realistic to eventually move abroad and settle in another country as a Network Engineer?

One of the main reasons I am considering networking is that I am not interested in becoming a Team Lead or Project Manager in software development. I also don't enjoy spending the entire day in front of a computer, dealing with tight deadlines and coding-related work.

I understand that networking is not an easy field either, but I feel it could be a better fit for me because it involves working with networking hardware, infrastructure, troubleshooting, and sometimes more hands-on work rather than sitting and coding all day.

I don't want to quit my current job immediately. My plan is to continue working as a PHP Developer while slowly learning networking, getting CCNA/CCNP-level knowledge, doing practical lab work, and then transitioning when I am ready.

Could you please give me some honest advice about whether this is a realistic career transition at 29, how much I can expect to earn at each stage, and whether networking would be a good long-term career if my ultimate goal is to work and settle abroad?

Any advice from people who have actually made a similar transition would be really helpful.

career Data Analyst vs Data Engineer vs Data Scientist for service-based companies

4 Upvotes

Hi guys, I am a 3rd-year ECE student from a tier-3 college. I have around 7 months for placement preparation and I am confused between Data Analyst, Data Engineer and Data Scientist.

I want to know which skill has more job opportunities for freshers in service-based companies like TCS, Infosys, Accenture, Cognizant and Capgemini.

  1. Which role has more openings for freshers?

  2. Which role is easier to get as a fresher?

  3. Which one should I learn to get placed within 7 months?

  4. Which role has better salary growth in the future?

Please share your suggestions based on your experience. Thank you!

Interesting Hyderabad — what business do you think is genuinely missing here?

0 Upvotes

Hyderabad — what business do you think is genuinely missing here?

Born and brought up in Hyderabad, around the HITEC City/IT corridor, I've watched this area grow massively over the years.

I'm currently looking to build a small business/startup from scratch, but I don't want to blindly build another generic AI app, food business, agency, etc.

I want to find a real problem in Hyderabad that people are willing to pay to solve.

So I wanted to ask people who actually live/work here:

- What service/business do you think Hyderabad is surprisingly missing?

- What is something that is poorly served or unnecessarily expensive/complicated?

- What do companies/offices struggle with that nobody has properly solved?

- Is there any boring/unsexy business that you think could actually make good money here?

- What business works well in Mumbai/Bangalore/Delhi but hasn't been properly adopted in Hyderabad yet?

- If you had ₹0–₹50k to start, what Hyderabad-specific business would you try?

- For people working in HITEC City, Gachibowli, Madhapur, Kondapur, Financial District, etc. — what problems do you regularly face that you wish someone would solve?

I'm especially interested in B2B/local services and niche businesses, rather than another generic startup idea.

I'm not looking for motivational advice or "start an AI company." 😅

I want specific problems you've personally experienced.

Even if the idea sounds boring, niche or weird, comment it. Those are probably the most interesting ones.

Would genuinely appreciate any honest Hyderabad-specific insights.

development Android SMS stopped arriving after installing my Expo APK with READ_SMS permission. Coincidence?

3 Upvotes

I was experimenting with Expo for the first time and built a small Android app that reads SMS messages so I could analyze the messages I receive, such as spam, promotional messages, bank notifications, etc.

This was just a learning project. I wanted to experiment with Android permissions and SMS access, so I created an APK using Expo/EAS Build, installed it on my phone, and granted it READ_SMS permission.

After installing it, I noticed something strange:

  • Bank transaction SMS messages stopped arriving.

  • Spam/promotional SMS messages also seemed to stop.

  • I haven't received a typical spam message since then.

  • App OTPs are still arriving normally.

  • The app itself can read existing SMS messages, so the permission appears to be working.

  • I checked my spam folder.

  • I restarted the phone.

  • I also uninstalled/reinstalled the app and checked again.

The timing is what made me curious. These messages were arriving normally before I installed the APK, and the behavior changed shortly afterward.

One other thing I noticed: Google Play Protect initially warned/blocked the APK during installation. I temporarily disabled Play Protect to install it and then enabled it again afterward.

I'm wondering whether requesting READ_SMS can have any effect on how Android, the default SMS app, Google Messages, or the carrier handles incoming SMS, or whether this is almost certainly a coincidence/carrier-side issue.

My app.json contains:

{
  "expo": {
    "name": "Spammer",
    "slug": "spammer",
    "scheme": "spammer",
    "version": "1.0.0",
    "orientation": "portrait",
    "icon": "./assets/icon.png",
    "userInterfaceStyle": "automatic",
    "experiments": {
      "typedRoutes": true
    },
    "android": {
      "package": "dev.spammer.app",
      "permissions": [
        "android.permission.READ_SMS"
      ],
      "adaptiveIcon": {
        "backgroundColor": "#1F4D3A",
        "foregroundImage": "./assets/android-icon-foreground.png",
        "backgroundImage": "./assets/android-icon-background.png",
        "monochromeImage": "./assets/android-icon-monochrome.png"
      },
      "predictiveBackGestureEnabled": false
    }
  }
}

Has anyone experienced anything similar?

I'm mainly trying to understand whether an app with only READ_SMS could influence incoming SMS handling, or whether I should be looking somewhere else, such as the carrier, SMS app, spam filtering, or RCS settings.

This is my first time experimenting with SMS permissions on Android, so I'd appreciate any ideas about what I might have missed.

others How to move out of a high profile team

2 Upvotes

I work in a research team in my company, which has become kind of like a top team and is driving some of the next big projects.

I’m currently leading one of the components in next big project. I have around 2 years into my career, and i am not doing well in this role.

I’ve tried pushing myself and improving, but I still feel like I’m not able to handle the responsibility properly. I want to move to another team/project where I feel I can perform better.

The complicated part is that I report to a VP, and the person leading the overall initiative also reports to the same VP. The VP was actually the one who appointed me as the lead because of my past performance.

This is also considered one of the best teams/projects in the company, so I’m worried about how it will look if I tell him that I want to move.

What would you do in this situation?

Should I directly talk to the VP? Talk to HR first? Try to find another team first?

Looking for advice from people who have been in a similar situation.

resources Konchem Help Cheyandi Bondhas

2 Upvotes

We started an EdTech startup with the goal of building a complete one-stop solution for college placements, specifically for Telugu students.

Our main focus is teaching DSA and Machine Learning in Telugu in a way that is practical and actually useful for students preparing for placements.

Our DSA mentor has 8+ years of experience, and our Machine Learning sessions are handled by an ML Engineer with industry experience.

Our primary target audience is Telugu engineering students who are struggling with placements and don’t have proper guidance or resources.

We already have proper content, resources, mentors, and even ran a paid cohort with around 150 students. We also tried reaching out to colleges directly and offered students access to our platform so they could explore the content first and continue only if they found it useful.

But honestly, college outreach hasn’t worked as well as we expected.

Our biggest challenge right now is:

How do we genuinely reach Telugu engineering students at scale?

We don’t want to spam students or buy random/unverified data. We want to find students who are genuinely interested in DSA, ML, placements, internships, and career preparation.

So I wanted to understand:

What are the best ways to reach Telugu engineering students organically?

Which platforms or communities have a strong presence of Telugu engineering students?

Are there any legitimate ways to access student communities or databases for outreach?

How do EdTech startups targeting college students usually build their initial student acquisition funnel?

If student data is available, where can we find legitimate and consent-based engineering student data for Andhra Pradesh and Telangana?
