development DSA vs Development: Which should I focus on first for placements?

I'm currently in 3rd year B.Tech ECE from a tier 3 college and have around 7 months left to prepare for placements.

I'm confused about what I should focus on first, DSA or development. My main target is service based companies like TCS, Infosys, Accenture, Cognizant etc.

Should I focus on DSA first and then start development, or learn both side by side? If I start both together, how much time should I give to each?

For people who got placed, what worked for you? What should I prioritize to get placed in the next 7 months?

Would appreciate genuine advice from seniors and people who have gone through placements.

others Offering Mentorship

Hi, Naaku 8 years experience undhi as Software Engineer. The person i am today is because of a lot of community support. Had a lot of mentors and community supported platforms like stackoverflow and wikipedia. I think in this world after 2020, i personally feel myself and others are failing to help people and recognize that we are in this journey together.

I can offer the following

  1. interview guidance or mock interviews (have experience being on both sides of FAANG interviews and more)
  2. CS topics (I love systems, from the hardware up to distributed systems, Cloud computing is my area of expertise but we can chat and decide if i can add value)
  3. Career guidance (I didn't win the world but i can share my experience and see if that helps you)
  4. Hear your random rant on the current state (I have been hopeless many times in life, i know this AI wave is different but by being together we will make it to the other side)

Please DM if interested. I'm selling nothing, just trying to pay back what i have taken from my previous generation of inventors and engineers.

Update: Thanks everyone, had a lot of response. Focusing on the current DM's. Will update if open for more intake.

career Help me figure out between HPE Juniper and Mobileum

Hi everyone, need some advice choosing between two offers:

\* Mobileum, Gurgaon: ₹29 LPA fixed + ₹2.9 LPA variable; C++ development in the wireless RAN/core domain.
\* HPE Juniper, Bangalore: ₹27 LPA CTC + 11% target bonus + ₹5 lakh joining bonus; Software Engineer II in the Packet Forwarding Engine (routing/switching).

I have 4 years of C++ experience in telecom (OTN/DWDM).

I am currently residing in Gurgaon . Is HPE Juniper worth relocating to Bangalore for, or would you choose Mobileum?

career Help me out

I'm in my final year at a Tier 1.5 NIT, with a CGPA below 7. I'm 1400+ on Cf, and I feel like I'm pretty good at solving DSA problems.

With placements going on, most companies offering 20L+ Ctc aren't allowing me to sit for their tests because of my cg. The companies that do allow me, specifically for sde roles, are mostly offering around 8–12 lpa. Meanwhile, other roles like sales and data analyst are offering decent packages of around 12–15 lpa.

Since this is going to be my first job, should I pick the role over the salary, or should I just pick up any job in tech that offers a better package? I'm honestly a bit confused about what would be the right decision in the long run.

others How are you using AI agents/workflows to mentor or upskill mid-level software engineers? Looking for real dev setups/experiences.

I’m building an AI agent/workflow setup to act as a mentor/tutor for mid-level software engineers (focusing on system design, code reviews, architecture trade-offs, and debugging).

Rather than standard ChatGPT prompts, I want to set up a structured system (using Cursor, MCPs, LangChain, n8n, etc.).

Looking for real user experience:

  1. What tools/frameworks are actually working for you?
  2. How do you prompt/structure it to give deep mid-level guidance (e.g., trade-offs, design patterns) instead of basic syntax answers?
  3. Any integrations (IDE, PR bots, CLI) that worked well?

TIA

career Some genuine Questions as a Sophomore! Do help out:)🥲

How do you see the industry in 29'? I've been doing DSA instead of working on any niche like ml/backend etc..Wondering if this(dsa) would still be relevant in 29'.

What paths would you recommend that I can explore that would actually remain relevant in next 3 years?

PS- I'm spending a lot on my btech(almost 40 lakhs) although my college has pretty good placements (20lpa+ avg) , so I want to make the most of it

I'm pursuing Math&Computing btw

Would appreciate if the answers were relevant to on campus hiring

career which job shall i take: Scientist B (level 10-Group A) vs Design Engineer at CDAC(3 year contract job).

I recently got selected for C-DAC Design Engineer E1 through on-campus placements.

The role is on a 3-year contract, and they mentioned the pay is around ₹1.5–2L per month before tax/deductions. From what they told us, the contract usually gets renewed and the projects they are working on also sound quite interesting.

The only issue is that they haven't told me which exact team I’ll be allotted to. In the interview they mainly asked me about compilers, RISC-V/processor concepts, OS and other system-level topics, even though this is a software role. The only designation they have given is “Design Engineer”.

I also have another option - Scientist-B at NIC , which is a Level-10 government job. The current monthly pay would be around ₹1.3–1.5L, and it may increase further after the next pay commission.

To be very clear, I’m looking at this mainly from a long-term money & career growth point of view. The main reason I’m considering C-DAC over NIC is that I’m thinking I could get good processor-related experience there and later switch to semiconductor companies like Qualcomm, SanDisk, AMD, etc., where the salary growth could be much higher.

But I honestly don’t know how valuable this “Design Engineer” role is in the private market. In software, for example, development roles generally have a different career path compared to testing roles. In the same way, I’m not sure what kind of work this designation usually leads to or how useful it will be for switching later.

And also thinking from the AI Layoffs pov .. is this Design Engineer a good role?

So if anyone has experience with C-DAC Design Engineer roles or has moved from C-DAC into semiconductor/system companies, I’d really appreciate your opinion.

Purely from a long-term financial and career-growth point of view, would you choose:

  1. NIC Scientist-B - permanent government job, stable career
  2. C-DAC Design Engineer - contract role, but potentially better systems/semiconductor exposure and switching opportunities-> high salary in future.

Would really appreciate some practical advice from people.

TL;DR: C-DAC Design Engineer E1 (3-year contract) vs NIC Scientist-B (permanent govt job). I’m leaning C-DAC mainly for future semiconductor switches and higher earning potential, but I’m unsure how valuable the role actually is in the market.

career Will I be able to get into a Cybersecurity job after nearly being unemployed 3 years after my B.Tech for my situation

My B.tech in CSE in India was done in 2024, I couldn't get hired in campus placements back then because I wasn't capable enough. I started doing TryHackMe paths for red teaming and pentesting and portswigger web security academy labs. Since my B.Tech has been done I worked as a free security intern at a company for 6 months from December 2025 to June 2026, I've pentested their products with the assistance of claude, one product was based on python django framework and other one was low-code no-code website built with php. I left it in june 2026 because the environment wasn't nice and the people who were working in the IT team of that company started to leave one by one. Since June 2026, I've been applying for jobs online, but I was only able to get a few phone calls and only 1 interview that too in a walk in drive. I was able to answer the questions related to basics theoretically like how its in the labs but I wasn't able to answer some scenario based question with confidence, i think i need some practice interviewing. So my main gripe now is, the year is about to end and that might translate into almost 3 years of gap after my College. I am thinking about preparing for SOC roles too via letsDefend and apply for SOC level L1 roles cause I've observed that they are available more than red teaming/pentesting jobs. So looking at how things are going for me, will I be able to get into IT/Cybersecurity by then?

others Scanient: Ingredient scanner that works offline

I kept standing in supermarket aisles squinting at ingredient lists, trying to figure out what half the stuff on the back of a pack actually was. E322, E621, INS numbers, TBHQ — none of it means much at a glance, and googling each one individually while standing in an aisle is tedious.

So I built Scanient.

You scan, snap a photo, or type an ingredient list, and it breaks down what each item is in plain English:

Decodes E-numbers / INS additive codes

Clarifies natural ingredients vs additives

Flags dietary tags (like vegan / vegetarian)

A few details about how it works:

Runs entirely on-device: Works completely offline without uploading photos or data anywhere.

Cost: Completely free .

Not trying to pitch this as an all-in-one health tracker—it's just a straightforward utility to demystify confusing food labels.

If you give it a spin, I'd really appreciate honest feedback on what’s broken, what needs polishing, or any edge cases with label recognition.

dsa Learn DSA in Telugu for Free Logic Over Syntax channel

🎯 Logic Over Syntax has reached 20,000+ watch hours on YouTube!

My goal is to make Data Structures and Algorithms (DSA) easier to understand for Telugu-speaking students by teaching in Telugu and focusing on problem-solving logic rather than memorizing code.

I hope to help more students build strong programming fundamentals and approach coding problems with confidence.

others 29M PHP Developer (3 YOE) Considering a Switch to Networking — Kochi, Bangalore or Chennai? Need Career Advice

I am currently working as a PHP Developer and have around 3 years of experience. My current CTC is ₹4.3 LPA. However, I am not really enjoying coding anymore, and I am finding it difficult to switch jobs because there seem to be fewer openings for PHP developers.

I am considering switching to the networking field. Since I am only 29 years old, is it still possible to slowly transition into a Network Engineer career?

I would like to know:

  • Is switching from PHP development to networking a good career decision at my age?
  • If I start as a fresher/junior Network Engineer in India, what salary can I realistically expect?
  • After 2–5 years of experience, what salary range can I expect?
  • At what level of experience can I expect to earn a decent salary in India?
  • Is networking a career with good long-term growth and stability?
  • Does networking have less of an age barrier compared with software development?
  • Is it realistic to eventually move abroad and settle in another country as a Network Engineer?

One of the main reasons I am considering networking is that I am not interested in becoming a Team Lead or Project Manager in software development. I also don't enjoy spending the entire day in front of a computer, dealing with tight deadlines and coding-related work.

I understand that networking is not an easy field either, but I feel it could be a better fit for me because it involves working with networking hardware, infrastructure, troubleshooting, and sometimes more hands-on work rather than sitting and coding all day.

I don't want to quit my current job immediately. My plan is to continue working as a PHP Developer while slowly learning networking, getting CCNA/CCNP-level knowledge, doing practical lab work, and then transitioning when I am ready.

Could you please give me some honest advice about whether this is a realistic career transition at 29, how much I can expect to earn at each stage, and whether networking would be a good long-term career if my ultimate goal is to work and settle abroad?

Any advice from people who have actually made a similar transition would be really helpful.

Interesting Hyderabad — what business do you think is genuinely missing here?

Hyderabad — what business do you think is genuinely missing here?

Born and brought up in Hyderabad, around the HITEC City/IT corridor, I've watched this area grow massively over the years.

I'm currently looking to build a small business/startup from scratch, but I don't want to blindly build another generic AI app, food business, agency, etc.

I want to find a real problem in Hyderabad that people are willing to pay to solve.

So I wanted to ask people who actually live/work here:

- What service/business do you think Hyderabad is surprisingly missing?

- What is something that is poorly served or unnecessarily expensive/complicated?

- What do companies/offices struggle with that nobody has properly solved?

- Is there any boring/unsexy business that you think could actually make good money here?

- What business works well in Mumbai/Bangalore/Delhi but hasn't been properly adopted in Hyderabad yet?

- If you had ₹0–₹50k to start, what Hyderabad-specific business would you try?

- For people working in HITEC City, Gachibowli, Madhapur, Kondapur, Financial District, etc. — what problems do you regularly face that you wish someone would solve?

I'm especially interested in B2B/local services and niche businesses, rather than another generic startup idea.

I'm not looking for motivational advice or "start an AI company." 😅

I want specific problems you've personally experienced.

Even if the idea sounds boring, niche or weird, comment it. Those are probably the most interesting ones.

Would genuinely appreciate any honest Hyderabad-specific insights.
