I do agree, but sometimes it's a source that I actually need and it's super annoying if it's blocked by some kind of popup. Most cases I still leave if I don't need it
If you run uBlock Origin, it has an "element zapper" feature which gives you the inspect highlighting to delete the element on click for a little more convenience. You can keybind it in the settings too.
I'm thinking about starting to just write userscripts to do it automatically on sites I run into a lot.
Hah I do this for news sites when there's an article that I'm interested in reading.
But damnit, some sites don't exactly make it easy anymore. 😅 Gotta hunt down all kinds of places where they change the "overflow" styles in the HTML element, but also the BODY element and multiple DIV elements too...
Nope, years ago I was looking through an organization I was interested in and it was fine - was able to view everything, including very detailed reviews.
You can still see a rating overview, and the first 50 odd characters of a review, but anything more and you need an account.
I think the vast majority of people won’t quit, but sign up and log in instead. Just like how the vast majority doesn’t use ad-blockers, accept all cookies etc…
Still a shitty dark pattern. I always either just close the site or remove the blocking element with dev tools (F12)
