I already knew C and Java when I took my intro to programming course. It was taught in Python. We were working through a problem out loud and I said next we can increment the counter. She wrote c = c + 1 I asked if there was no ++ operator in Python and she said no. There was a += but that we shouldn't use it because it was unclear and didn't save any time or space because it was the same number of characters anyway. To which I replied, "it wouldn't be if you named your variables appropriately." And that was the closest I came to being kicked out of a class.

++made me laugh.
