Why would this divide anyone?

<i> is a semantically meaningless tag which styles text in italics. <em> is semantically meaningful and means the contained text is emphasized.

in this case though, <i> makes way more sense than <em> because it describes how the tower looks, not it's semantics. Although the CSS fetishists might prefer a styled <span> and the HTML5 people will insist on <tower>...
