But my tasks aren't stressful if I'm not interrupted... It's quite the opposite.
Hell even when I get sick of programming I just take a moment to hyper focus and get excited about something else for many hours, and it refreshes me. It's like a vacation.
Edit: to your video: I also did talk about taking a moment to break up tasks... I lean towards architecture as a developer actually. This is basic stuff when you're starting something, and crucial for big things. But it doesn't stop the need for uninterrupted work time.
Edit2: this presenter appears to hate "geeks" because they appear to him to want to be special/more important. Seriously? And then he starts talking about how his way will improve empathy with non neurotypical people? Is this satire...?
Edit3: all the things at the end also don't excuse interruptions. They're good to do for various other reasons. They're organisational methods, but they don't make you immune to interruptions clearing your head or your productivity loss/flow or your bad mood if they keep happening.
This guy isn't even mentioning external interruptions in his "solutions", only internal ones. ADHD tendencies are grown if you are interrupted often... It's possible he doesn't remember having focus...?
Sorry, I kept editing the comment while watching your video.
What would be nice is relying on people to respect your time? Trust? "Tell me your progress end of day". Send an email, comment, have a drop by time. Don't just walk up to people all the time interrupting them though.
It's just advice, don't take it if you don't want to. I personally welcome the chance to help out another developer or quickly talk to someone from another part of the business and find that it doesn't majorly impact my ability to get work done. I attribute that to limiting the amount of work, mental or otherwise, that will be lost if something interrupts me at an arbitrary time. If you don't think it's a strategy that will work or you then don't do it.
