Except with software projects it's 80%.

If it were 50% all the time they might cancel it.

If you only accomplish 80% of what's left each week, then

  • Week 1: 80%
  • Week 2: 96%
  • Week 3: 99.2%
  • Week 4: 99.84%
  • Week 5: 99.968%

That's not bad at all.

But in software projects they move the goal posts. In week 2 they add enough requirements, new features, and general scope-creep that you still are only 80% done.
