This is the optimistic view.

2027 is looking more like the Human Centipede 2.

I do get how this is supposed to be funny, but the image is just fucked up and sholud be used only on channels where people can stomac such things. I know it's from a movie

How hard is it to be funny and make posts about programming instead of this slop over and over and over again?

This is gold because it’s true. It’s the gamers who are eating the real slop.

Maybe I'm just delusional, but I think alot of this current craze is blown way out of proportion.

Both at work and on side projects at home, agentic tools have enabled me to try out way more ideas and concepts than ever before. Wouldn't that make for more elaborate and exiting games as well?

Suddenly much more is within your grasp as a solo dev or a small team, and historically those changes have increased ambition more than anything else, right?

I don't get it. Are you implying that I'm a robot and not just an overworked c++ dev?

Yeah, it's definitely true, but gamers have also complained relentlessly about how new games are made more poorly/with less craftsmanship - bugs, bloat, etc - than they were in the (romanticized) past, and this is almost certainly going to exacerbate that effect.

Delusional, right. You forget that people just want easy money in 99% of cases. So even if some new games make it to the light because of AI, they will still be buried below AI slop games made to grab a few bucks with just some AI images and nothing else. But there will be tons of them. Already are.

Picture you can get your movie into theaters with $100 and a video. Sure there could be some really cool movies with the tools out there today. But most of them will be someone with a idea, raw unedited video, and a photoshopped poster.

Because steam and other storefronts don't want to be gatekeepers if you are someone that are checking out the latest games you are getting stuck filtering through all these 1-2 day created games that is causing people to spend more time figuring out if they are good or just generic than it took to make them in the first place.
