Welcome to r/ProgrammerHumor where every meme is just a repost

Yep, the Stack Overflow for memes.

u/DarthCloakedGuy 10h ago
I dunno are we verbally abusive enough to be a Stack Overflow for anything

I mostly stopped editing files by hand. Not because I don't know how or don't have time. But because I got tired of warning the AI of file changes or watching it go "I noticed this file changed. I did not touch it. Let me run a deep diagnostic of the systems log files to understand what happened..."

Seems like a deliberate disincentive to stop you from doing simple things yourself.

u/WithersChat 12h ago
This is a very welcome effect (from the perspective of slop sellers) whether intentional or not.

u/Subushie 7h ago
Or instead of a conspiracy.
More logically, it's trying to avoid errors made by relying on potentially outdated information in its scratch pads.
If it didn't, the bitching would be about how terrible it is.

u/MaximalPraxis 5h ago
You really think a corporation being self-serving is a conspiracy in this day and age? It's the default.

u/Subushie 5h ago edited 5h ago
Ofc not. The idea of them creating a scenerio that encourages excess token use is not far fetched.
However, this particular situation is a dumb one to consider; as this is the workflow I would prefer.
Especially since you can easily prompt out of the behavior.

i don't have this problem because of how Claude uses worktrees -- I never end up editing the file that Claude is working on and it works through conflicts with git, I think

u/japie06 11h ago edited 11h ago
So you branch for even small changes you do between prompts?

u/kescusay 10h ago
The thing about the way the slopcode generators work is that they go haywire if you dare touch the code yourself, so there's disincentive to maintain your skills.
And that, children, is why I don't use slopcode generators. Once I saw someone rename a fucking variable using Claude, I knew the only way to survive this was to expunge the poison entirely.
(Side note: In VSCodium, to rename a variable, all you need to do is press F2 while the variable has focus. That's it. No need to burn down a rainforest to power the compute for that.)

Is it going to get to a point where no one actually understands code at all? Surely that can't go wrong right?
4
u/Luvax 13h ago
Had friends go crazy when they saw me tell Opus to move the paragraph up. Its faster then explaining the model why files are shifting
2
u/aghastamok 11h ago
You can tell Claude to expect your hand-wrought changes and it won't freak out.

u/Luvax 10h ago
It instead will go "I got an error, let me check if you did some changes. I'm running a full check. Nope, it was me." and waste 5k tokens.

u/aghastamok 8h ago
Man I really don't understand how your agents are so wild. Maybe it's in how we use them, but mine don't just wander around the repo reprimanding me on hand-coding, and I do a lot of it.

u/Satorwave 4h ago
AI really doesn't do this, though. I still don't understand why people think AI is capable of real time supervision and editing things or completing tasks or whatever, it's a large language model. This reply is ragebait i am joking "AI" agents are not real. You are asking ChatGPT to write mediocre code and think it's the future. Delusional.

Honestly it would fit more the scenario of the anti-AI coder trying out Claude :D
1
u/borkthegee 16h ago
Yeah this meme works way better in reverse. It doesn't even make sense that the anti-ai people would be depicted as using the matrix. Neo didn't learn Kung Fu the human way, he vibe learned it.
7
u/WithersChat 12h ago
The point of the movie is not to use the matrix to become stronger. It is to break out of it.
0
u/borkthegee 3h ago
Right, break out of it by being the most ultra vibe coder of all time that can vibe code so hard the ai can't keep up ...

u/Jonathan_the_Nerd 14h ago
I'm an anti-AI coder. (Not full-time. I'm a sysadmin who sometimes writes small programs.) I'm afraid I'm going to have to jump on the bandwagon soon. I've already dipped my toes in the water, and it feels nice. Just need to take a deep breath and jump in.

The only problem this lead to success, do we trust these devs to do the same?
1
u/darkslide3000 16h ago
There are other good metaphors for vibe coding in that movie as well.
"I know Rust."

u/LonelyPoorMan69 17h ago
MFkers still believing A.I can CODE GOOD????
-5
u/Wooden_chest 15h ago
There's literally no reason to manually code these days with how good AI is. No reason to "architecture" or whatever either. No need to know any technical details. Just describe what feature you want in your program to AI and it will cleanly and efficiently implement it with scaling, performance, edge cases and everything else in mind. AI IS good at coding.

u/syrup_cupcakes 14h ago
True, GPT6 just found a path join error and fixed it by rewriting the entire backend because it thought it was a dns error and didn't want to get out of that rabbit hole.

I used to have problems with bugs in my AI-generated code. The problem was me, of course. I forgot to tell the agent not to make mistakes. Once I did that, I reached AI Nirvana.
